Yep, they were great! Those 48 purchased nucs we kept produced about 90 new nucs and 900lb of honey this year - great colonies.

Glad y’all got another video out there Hope the nucs don’t break the bank! Hadn’t heard of 4 frames like that. Hopefully they have you a better price! I was selling 5 frame over wintered at $200 in Kentucky this spring

It's a 5 frame nuc with 1 empty frame for expansion so they don't swarm during transport. We removed at least the empty frame and normally another frame to leave 3 or 4 frames transferred into our deeps.

You squished some bees on the bottom board yikes 😝the only downfall to looking for Queen cells lifting the brood box like that is the hidden cells that are close to the bottom but are hidden a couple inches up , I’m not being a “D”head lol because I’m guilty of all of this too 😅

Always smash a few, it's inevitable, especially when you're moving fast. Very rare to have all the cells hidden in the middle of the frame, those are normally supercedures that we don't mind happening.

@@HiddenSpringApiaries I know what you mean , I used to run 3,000 boxes , I just notice stuff like that because I’m watching KZread lol , if there is a soul in a bee I’m definitely in trouble 😁

Darn. What was the varroa load in the fall? Being malnourished, does that mean the bees didn’t get enough sugar syrup in the fall? Thx! Eric.

We don't monitor varroa since we're not going to do anything about them anyway (we're treatment free). Yes they didn't have the sugars (honey or syrup) they needed in August to raise healthy winter bees

We got a small one off of these in south PA. Single brood management and giving them fully drawn frames is the only thing that made that possible

I picked up my first hive end of March and they had filled a super by end of May. it was 60 lbs. I was shocked. I extracted it and put it back on the hive.

Why don’t you like foundation?

The bees draw it more slowly, the cell size isn't correct, no communication holes can be built by the bees, queen cells can't be moved off of it, queens prefer laying in foundationless, and it's expensive, to name a few.

⁠hello I have been a bee keeper since 1968 an you are not totally correct on your comment about why you do not like foundation. I have had foundation drown out in a week and a half, also you said the bees could not pass thru . I like wax foundation best but I do like plastic foundation. All my wax foundation they do make holes in it . The plastic foundation I have cut the corners off all four corners and I have taken a hole saw about a 1-1/2” hole right in the middle of the foundation. Also I do not understand why you think the bees can not make the correct size cells but if you are talking about drone comb then all you do is put a frame of the green color drone cone in the #1 or the #10 spot . I am not going to say do or do not do treatment on your bees but if you do not you will have to be very good an there is A LOT more work in it to keep your bees alive also there are natural treatments on the market just check with your bee supplier they can lead you in the right direction.
