    I've used the Line6 G50 for years and it works fine most of the time. It does get intermittent on bigger stages where there's a lot of OTHER wireless signal. The problem is that it won’t start dropping out until you’re in the middle of a show and they start using their wireless light systems. It is always fine at sound check. The unit on your pedal board will tell you if it’s having a problem with the signal. And you can change to a different channel. But you have to manually do it on your board and then manually do it on the belt pack receiver. That’s time consuming and in the middle of a show, it’s a show stopper. What I like about this Shure unit is that it will detect interference, and instantly change to a better channel. You don’t have to do a thing. That's worth the extra money! I ordered mine today.

    I'm about to buy my first wireless system and this video answered a lot of questions I didn't have while not answering the questions I did have. Never once have I wondered: "I wonder how well my wireless system will travel over water?" (as if it would affect it at all) - which this vid answered I have DEFINITELY wondered: "I wonder how it will hold up in a venue of a couple thousand people who all have cell phones searching for WiFi on the same 2.4 and 5.8 GHz band while also competing with the array of stage lights." - which this vid doesn't answer

    yeah testing in a park or in a empty hall isn't the best. Try to test it in a building with a lot of wireless routers and at least 4-500 people with wi-fi on mobile phones enabled. I bet you'll have some unpleasant surprises

  • @CedricSatterfield

    @CedricSatterfield

    Outside is important, though. That body of water is going to have a huge effect on RF signals, plus the UK is full of cameras and whatever in public- that park may have a lot of wireless around. The 5.8ghz spectrum isn't nearly as congested as 2.4ghz,. Most wireless devices default to 2.4ghz to the chances of finding as much congestion on 5.8 even in a gig venue full of cell phones and wifi is reduced.

    We’ve done exactly that. Tested in a theatre with nothing but our dual band router, the theater’s WIFI, and our bass player’s older GLXD system (which cuts out occasionally, for the record). Couldn’t get through sound check before having to borrow a ULXD mic from the venue. Returned the GLXD+, ordered a QLXD in the V50 range (VHF, 174-216 range). New venue, same problems, but no idea what was interfering with the system. We had it far away from any network switches or LED lights, which are known to interfere with VHF. Had to borrow an Audio-Technica UHF system from the venue, which sounded better than the Shure (Beta58 capsule) and worked flawlessly all night. I don’t care what this video has to say, the tech is not there yet. My QLXD G50 guitar wireless has been perfect from day one, so my conclusion is that anything that is not in the UHF range still cannot be relied upon in a professional setting.
