A similar thing happened with me in college . Top 5 students from my class got direct interviews with top IT company. I was in 6th position, but I knew something was wrong with my last sem results. I applied for review, and my ranking changed. After 30 days, I became nuber 4 , but by that time, the company hired top 5 students from my class, and I was jobless. They take manual paper checking so casually, don't understand that someone future depends on it.

I’m happy to see this. My story is quite similar . I was so fascinated with physics and wanted to go into engineering. But in the 12th cBSE board exam results I scored 60 marks in math. Rest subjects above 90. It tanked my cut off so bad that while applying to state counselling (TN) I was not gonna secure the top college. Ironically NEET2013 score was good and I picked medical stream as my career . Now I’m a doctor. Twisted fate.

I remembered my 12th Boards listening to her story. I studied so darn well. Read the text books at least 4-5 times. I did really well in all my papers, especially Business studies. I was sure I’ll score 94 and then comes the result. 77. I felt bad because I’m not someone who studies a lot and I had put in a lot of effort for this exam and I was sure that I would score 90+. Spoke to my lecturer. A whole bunch of paper was sent to one particular school in a different district and this school was a government school where voting for elections were to take place in a few days. And many of these teachers correcting our papers also had election duties. Whosever paper was sent there, they all received marks in 70’s. My lecturer advised me against re-evaluation as it would take a lot of time and that would cause delay in my admission process for higher studies and apparently, if a correction board awards less than 6 marks for no rhyme or reason, they’ll all have to pay fine. Which they won’t and they’ll only try and make my paper look bad.

I got my 12th board results 3 months back and I went through the absolute same thing , like I have never gotten below 99 ,never . And then when the results came I had a 74 ,my parents didn't believe it either so we gave it for revaluation and it again came back 2 months later as 74 but this time they sent us pictures of my evaluated answer sheet . I had cried so hard and for so many days I still remember , every question the evaluator had deducted 3 marks for absolutely no reason , even my own class teacher was shocked because all my answers were as close to perfect as possible . On the other hand people who were worse in the subject had gotten straight 99s and It hit me so hard that being a topper throughout your life and one day you realise no matter how hard you work the corrupted education system won't reward you fairly and the later you face this harsh truth the more it hurts . So I request all the parents and whoever out there that don't scold students if they don't get 99 or 98 percentiles , appreciate them even if they're a topper or even if they pass . Because i hv seen people give up on life just because they didn't get a 90 above or a 100 .

8 years back, similar thing happened with me in English Paper. I got 98-99 marks in other subjects but 78 in English quite unexpectedly. Even my classmates whom I had helped with English got 80-90 plus. At that time, Board Marks were considered in JEE Mains also, so I was really worried although that wasn't my serious JEE attempt. I got it reevaluated, 1 mark was increased. I don't know if my answers were perfect but surely they were checked in a very strict manner, even crossing of words led to losing marks. Eventually, I got over it. If you're still getting at least 90 percentage overall, it won't matter much in the long run. I got 99/100 in Physics, does that mean I am very good at it? No. Except if you go for CAT, I have never seen class 12th or 10th marks matter much. Good thing is today, class 12th marks don't matter in JEE/NEET and I guess DU and other universities admissions are also through CUET now. So, don't worry, you'll realise these marks and this problematic education system weren't worth your tears. All the best for your future.

Just imagine waiting 6-7 months after results only to know that the paper which was to be re evaluated was lost, and these people didn't even inform it in the first place . I had to fill up that enrollment form and give re-exam .

I went to the same school as her, same batch, i was commerce she was science but we had maths class in common. Both of us went to the same tutor for some time, our own maths teacher from school. In the final results i got about 80 in all subjects, 91 in eng, 92 in Business Studies, 85 in economics, But my Maths result was shit that year. I realised that we relied too much on our teacher. Other students who were weaker than me in other subjects scored better because they went to a better maths tutor. Shreya was usually maths topper in class, but she like few other students got like so less in finals. Physics was tough, so 79 was still not bad. But Maths result was so crappy for some science students, and extraordinary for others.

The thing is a lot of valedictorians like myself don't usually talk about is that, well scoring a subject is a process and it's cool until 12 but after that the scoring takes a toll on our social and personal life, in degree I saw me and some of my topper friends pulling out of their happy, social and outgoing wellbeing... We miss parties, avoid chitchats, stressed up and rarely get to enjoy ourselves and I think to myself that being a topper is good but life shouldn't be about you not being able to enjoy life and miss out on a lot of things... Work is good and we all should contribute to greater good but i realised that, it's not what we're made for... Such a sacred thing as life should be experienced with everything it has to offer... Everyone got different opinions on this but I've been scoring above average and enjoying all the things and being happy... Rather than being a topper i used to be and always stressing out and worrying about every little detail not going my way... It's a self-rule I've implied on myself and sure there are some battles where I don't pull my punches and give my best in academics to score... The hype of being a topper is temporary and peace of life is what I choose to follow ❤️✨
