Life in Antarctica is very intense. Everyone works 55 hours a week, six days a week. With the exclusion of 4 holidays, every one based at McMurdo station only gets one day off a week. Science never stops and neither do the men and women working at the bottom of the world.

What would help is if you guys added more info on how you got there? Was it work or on one of the expedition cruise? For normal tourists you have to get on the expedition vessel which is quite expensive ($5k and up) or Hope you get a last minute deal on one of the cabins in Ushuaia. Nice video though.

Well, there is a military presence so the taxpayers are definitely paying for something. I imagine there's also a lot of private funding and donations. The housing and overall infrastructure are fairly cheap to build and maintain. It's really just food, fuel, spare parts, and pay for employment that are the biggest recurring costs which overall is probably less than a couple million a year. Easy to come by on a large scale like this.
