Used to work in tech repair. People would frequently come in when their phone wasn't charging or their headphones wouldn't connect properly, and usually all you needed to do is clean the ports out and it was fixed. It took less than a minute or two so I usually wouldn't charge them since I always really liked cleaning the various different devices.

And here in my town they will tell that the charging port needs to be replaced. Even if they just clean the original port, they will charge for a new port.

I feel so stupid. Been struggling to charge my phone for months. I kind figured the port was dirty but was afraid to aggressively clean it with a toothpick. Watch you get in there with a metal pick, I realized I doubt a piece of wood will damage it. Got a bit aggressive with cleaning and bingo..phone charges fine now! Thanks! Saved me from buying another phone or being without as mine is cleaned! Great vid! The toothpick works too apparently folks.
ugh............. watching this before my breakfast just saves my energy of preparing one.
Omg… I’ve been having issues with my phone’s charging port for like a year now, I’d struggle to different levels trying to get the charge to stay connected each night. Then I saw this video and was like huh… sure enough there was quite a bit of lint in it! Not as much as the one in the video, but still a surprising amount. After I cleared it out, took less than 5 minutes, the charge connects without issue and stays connected. I've found that basic, lock picking tools are good for cleaning out charging ports. I got some with a transparent lock for Christmas one year and they do a good job. Thank you for this! I used the I-Fix-It kit with the tiny needle nose tweezers to clean compressed lint out of my Type-C charge port! It Worked! The connector snaps into place now! No more wiggling the charger into the port and leaving my phone sitting in a certain way to charge! So happy I saw this! **Note:** If you use any tweezers make sure they are ESD safe tweezers that way you aren't likely to short out any pins in your charge port or turn the device off fully just to be safe! *Doing this saved me from having to pay someone to swap my charge port when it only need to be cleaned!* I used to just rinse my charge port to keep it "clean" but I was mostlikely just rinsing some out and when the port dried out and I would go to charge my phone I was just mashing the rest of my pocket lint down into the bottom/back of the charge port preventing the connector from going all the way in like it should have!

Great video!! I keep my iPhone and earbuds in their case in the back pocket of my jeans. I noticed blue fuzz in all the openings of both. After cleaning them out I now keep the charging ports pointing up in my pockets. My husband scratches a lot of Lottery tickets in his car. The sticky black crumbs would get into everything. Cleaning his phone was a pain. Now he puts it in a plastic bag in the car. The other thing that collects in the phone crevices are dead skin cells. They combine with the oils to make that crud. I’m often cleaning my iPhone, my earbuds (which need a lot of attention) and the keyboard on my pc. I use alcohol (IPO) which evaporates quickly. I also use a cotton swab, little brushes and canned air. I would never use anything pointy like a needle or a safety pin. The sharp point might damage something in the opening.
There is something very satisfying about watching it get cleaned. :)

A clean medium bristle toothbrush is great with IPA. Just make sure you brush across the grill and don’t push down to hard. I would avoid using a pick on the speaker or microphone on the bottom it’s very easy to poke through them and they might require a whole unit replacement. The toothbrush and rubbing alcohol is usually enough. You can also get blue poster tac. Roll a bit into a ball about the size of a grape and press firmly into the grill and then pull out quickly. Finally be careful when you clean the charging port. Make sure you know where the charging pins ar and avoid them to minimize the chance of damaging the pins
these cleaning videos are satisfying
So I randomly stumbled upon this, and after seeing the gunk come out and reading the comments here, I ended up pulling out a pair of tweezers i had and used them to clean the port on my phone. So much pocket fuzz and other stuff came out to the point that i thought it would never end. But the final result is that now my charging cable actually plugs in all the way again and doesn't have to rest in a specific orientation to work. Thank you for sharing this video and showing how even a seemingly small amount of maintenance can make a huge difference.
This job looks so therapeutic lol Patience & Presence while Serving others

Might depend on how often you replace your phone. Some people don't replace them until they're dead or aren't compatible with cell services any more simply because cost is a factor.
