This lick really shows us how Eric Johnson gets more out of the pentatonic scale than most of us, and so I wanted to explore it and take some lessons from it!

Cordy pentatonics in the AM, great start to the day!
Thank you for teaching licks like an actual teacher. Playing it multiple times, showing the tab, but also naming the notes, changing keys, etc. so many “lessons” on KZread are not actually TAUGHT well. They are more like show off “watch what I can do” displays. Your channel is fantastic and you got my sub

Yes well said
Showing my age...... My first experience of Eric was also the G3 concert with Satch and Vai, only on VHS rather than DVD

You need to realize that it’s not the guitar ……it’s the hands and the electronics

@@anthonymoore1705 you’re missing the point…….I can get that same sound with my $169 fender squire strat……in the 60’s it was the guitar and the amp…..today it’s neither
Once again great content! Hope you have a great week John! 🔥👏🎸🎶
I saw them live years ago. Awesome.
Good Lord how are you getting that violin tone? Please share!!
I basically wore out the G3 videos and DVDs. Especially this Live In Denver one. I too had no idea who this Eric Johnson guy was. Just some bloke playing a boring old strat, right? Jesus, I was so wrong!
Your Tone is immaculate
I get excited every time this gets revisited. Love your improvisations on the theme. Could you possibly analyze the version from the Woodlands TX, 1990 show at some point down the line? He does these INSANE harmonics with his picking hand. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard.💎

The Woodlands is 1993, Eric was part of the blues tour with BB King that year. And that SRV version only has 1 solo in it, it is pre Venus Isle by 3 years. That is an Awesome version. Here it is: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYOGmquCj6bIY8o.html

@@ksharpe10 Thanks for the correction, absolute legend 🔥🔥
Nice job doing an Eric Johnson lesson on a Les Paul. 😂
Sequence the skip/step details of a lick through different starting notes, in this case, by switching positional box shape? Cheers, D
Can you tell us which of your backing tracks you are using in this video? I have sifted through dozens of them but still can't find it. This such a great video and I would like to practice some of what I'm learning here with the same background track. Thanks for all of the great work you do!
Thumbnail claims I'm not using the pentatonic scale lile Eric Johnson. No shit? Man, the disappointment is real 😂
My favorite musician. Who is John Cordy 2??
I'd love to hear your dial in a High Landrons stereo dual phaser intro preset for the intro lead.

@@JamesJLaRue flanger almost definitely. I had a killer Roland GP-100 High Landrons patch back in the day (1999 ish) the flange effect is really pronounced on the album. Almost sounds like a real two tape machine "finger on the tape reel flange" sound like the "Lazy falling river.. surrounding castles in the sky" section on the Doobie Brothers "Listen to the music"

@@christopherjbutler I rememeber an interview with EJ where he said he used some MXR rack unit, 2 of them and had difficulty timing them up to each other. I know the Doobies part your're talkin about. That's the similar sound but I think it's guitar-only in EJs case, not the full mix.
@christopherjbutler
Жыл бұрын
@@JamesJLaRue Correct, exactly what I meant but I did not clarify 🙂.. EJ's case is THAT kind of sound but only on the guitar track. There is some huge, gorgeous resonance and comb filtering stuff that is going on that sounds incredible against the rest of the mix which is also ethereal for it's own reasons. As for the dual MXR rack flangers? that's great to know! And, in fact, NOT having them sync perfectly is where that kind of effect might come from! Too cool :)

Doesn’t Roy Ziv explain his own techniques on his programs and lessons? Who’s going to teach it better than him right?

@@ChidOki Indeed he does. You are correct sir. However, sometimes seeing someone else fiddle with those runs gives insight and wisdom to the process. Different perspectives and all.

@@Sammywhat Yeah great point. Now that you say it, sometimes great players aren’t necessarily the best at teaching what they do. We all know how bad some instructional vids can be even with the best pros. Sometimes having someone else teach it is a better perspective. Not saying Roy Ziv is a bad teacher or anything, but I’d be up for Cordy teaching Ziv stuff.
Great playing and tone! Is that preset in your helix pack and in that case which preset is it?
