How Elon Musk Makes And Spends His Billions | Business Insider Explains | Business Insider
Elon Musk has amassed a fortune, but because the majority of his wealth is tied to Tesla shares and stock options, it dips and rises by the day, sometimes by more than 10 billion dollars. For about a year, it has hovered around 200 billion, more than the GDP of over 150 countries. Here’s how he became one of the world’s richest people, and where he spends his money.

Maybe you missed the first part where they said his money is tied up in stock. Selective hearing, I presume?
I had initially planned to retire at 62, work part-time, and save money, but the impact of high prices on various goods and services has significantly disrupted my retirement plan. I'm worried about whether those who experienced the 2008 financial crisis had it easier than I currently am. The volatility of the stock market is a concern as my income has decreased, and I fear that I won't be able to contribute as much as before, potentially jeopardizing my retirement savings.

This is very misleading and misinformation from this business channel or paper called Business Insider. 90% of his net worth or wealth is tied to his Tesla shares and if Tesla stock goes down his net worth goes down significantly as well and vice versa. But it’s not like the way it’s described here, he is not sitting around with billions in cash nor he can sell his Tesla shares whenever he wants. Do better business Insider.

@Marco_My_Words

@@kaustubh42020 Philanthropy is defined as the act of donating money, resources, or time to improve the lives of others. It's not measured merely by the amount or percentage of wealth given away but by the donations' scale and effect. Philanthropy includes contributions of any size, with the focus on the intention behind and the impact of the giving, rather than the precise amount or wealth percentage. Whether it's significant donations from the wealthy or smaller, regular gifts from those with less, all are valued if they aim to benefit the public good. The emphasis lies on the purpose and outcome of the donations rather than their financial value. However, giving $50 as a person of limited means is still much easier and less impactful than a wealthy individual donating billions.
@TheDaddyNick
Ай бұрын
@kaustubh42020 lol well, only by an arbitrary measure of percentage. That's by no means an accurate statement, nor the only measure of philanthropy. That is a pretty disingenuous measure. It's an argument of semantics, essentially. By actual measure, thats saying 50% of $100 is more effective than 1.8 billion dollars, which by every measure of reality would just make you sound ridiculously stupid. Is that still your argument? Btw, I dont like Musk, im just being realistic.
The video fails to distinguish what Shares are and what cash is. Elon Musk does not have 200bn in cash in a bank. He has shares in Tesla, which mean that he gets a check every month from Tesla - a the amount depends on the Share price. He has also taken many risks which paid off. Electric cars were not a sound venture when he embarked upon mass production of these. But it worked and he is reaping the rewards. People are buying his products and investing in his companies. There is great confidence in him, hence the investments. It's not just Elon making these companies successful, it is a wide group of individuals and innovators. The video fails to articulate the good that Elon Musk has achieved. It is no mean feat - the speaker in the video has a disdain and possibly jealousy for Musk. She is quite sarcastic when describing is acquisition of Twitter - for the record, Twitter was losing a lot of money which is why they were ripe for acquisition. I also note the tone - she is a liberal as she describes Musk as a right-wing darling. Note: he isn't right wing. Not the standard I would have expected from Business Insider.
At 2:35, you say SpaceX had multiple failures in 2008. Correct, it had 3 Falcon1 failures. The image of the rocket you have pointed down is Starship stacked on top of Super Heavy Booster, which launched in 2023 and 2024.

You are confusing wealth with money. His wealth can go up and down by the billions with whatever mood the stock exchange is in. He made exactly zero dollars at Tesla for the last 5-6 years because a Delaware judge has a limited understanding of this too.We don't actually make money we invest until we sell off those investments and even then the market has to be cooperating. As for rent.....his 500 sq.ft. casita in Texas probably ranks in the far low end scale of rentals nationwide. A lot of people make assumptions based on previous biases and the FUD that legacy media churns out every day. Any headline with Musk in it gets more clicks than without it. Skew it so it sounds negative and the clicks go up even more. Musk is a true humanitarian just by making space travel and global internet possible, EVs possible and affordable, and a myriad of other good things that the media doesn't like to focus on because "Elon Bad" sells and "Elon Good" doesn't.

Nobody should be this wealthy. The vast difference between the 1% and the other 99% is insane. This is Reaganomics at work.
The political spectrum is exactly that, a unidimensional graph, I can't quite believe how many people out there believe that establishing oneself with a bias to either end of that would be okay. This spectrum has the intrinsic property that any bias is a 1:1 relational tradeoff; surely, from the perspective of anyone with a political bias, someone with many unrelated ideas from both sides is more likely to be central than identifiably on the far-side? This is an understandable mischaracterisation, but it's important to admit to oneself in that situation that the perspective would be inherently limited and, obviously, not broadcast such claims on this basis - especially when that someone exclaims time and time again that they do everything to remain as central/balanced as they can (unlike most).

Hello ❤❤❤😊😊
So biased 😂 the writer clearly doesn’t like Musk There’s a bunch of examples but one that stood out to me was Neuralink… like why say the guy said it’s not perfect? The context is so off from what the guy actually said and meant. The guy literally said “it makes being disabled not that bad” in the most positive heartfelt way. He can play video games, go on the computer and he said it’s amazing because it’s like his hand is actually moving the mouse

Literally paused the video to look at the comments when I heard that , so fkn disgustingly biased it's not even funny at this point , Musk is not perfect that's for sure but his contributions are not to be belittled because he doesn't follow your political agenda , anyone that has seen the video of the P1 of neuralink should understand that this technology will change the world especially for disabled people , idk you're allowed to dislike Musk but when you let that decide how you judge his achievements you're kind of being a complete moron

That is a common misconception, his father had his ups and downs in terms of wealth but Elon didn't grow up with a complete silver spoon & had to risk traveling to Canada at a young age in the hopes of a better life with little to no money in his bank account. It was there where he found his footing and started to partner with others during the internet boom to start Zip2, and the rest is history.

Sounds like a hit piece! Why should he give away his money??? He pays enough in taxes and all the jobs he’s created!!!

@@dobriltanev9722 Yes, this video is quite off with facts, the numbers don't match, and they put a map of the Silistra Oblast instead of a map of Bulgaria, so they really don't know what they are even talking about. I've been to Silistra and yes, I can also confirm it's probably one of the poorest in the country, with the north west (Montana, ...), but that's not the point of this video.

Only liberals will tell you someone should spend their money. It's his money, let him do whatever he wants with it.
Why should we take anything business CLICKBAIT insider says serious? Everything is a lie and everything is done to make sensationalist articles 🤦🏻♂️
Why no mention of his (planned) House in South Tyrol for example? There is so much more he spends his money on, than 8 cans of soda a day...

It was a very curious video. It explained nothing about how he even had money to spend. Much like every economic video about stocks ever made, they never admit the whole thing is a sham. Hopefully they can't dodge around the overvaluation game given Trump's latest scam.

@@gabrielsatter but that's strange framing then, the loans were one of the most successful of government during 2008, payed with interest. And the tax breaks are strategically given for industries that the government wants to encourage and for economic changes that would've been _more_ expensive for the government to have done it by itself. Tax breaks for particular supply chain decisions etc? Sources battery metals from within the US rather than outside? But wouldn't that fall on the government? Should such instruments be abandoned as a means to accomplish the government's performance goals?

@@havenotchosenyet You're right, I'm so glad the feds are looking out for our interests and not completely lining their own pockets in these fantastic and totally upstanding deals they make with trillion dollar companies.
I'm incredibly disappointed in this video. Business Insider used to be interesting topics and facts. This video is misleading, snarky and incorrect when it came to several topics, and full of unnecessary bias/personal comments. It used to be more than this.
This woman is arrogant, insecure, jealous, condescending, and sarcastic all of which is a direct reflection on the producer of this video. They don’t understand the brilliance of Mr. Musk.
I surprised Linnette "Latina Shrek" Lopez wasnt the story-teller of this snarky, backhanded, blatant hit piece!
Yeah Bill Gates is such a nice guy, I'm not a fan of musk either but this video is hilarious (And not in a good way)
