As a Chinese, I can confirm that Elon is indeed very popular here, mostly because people acknowledge Tesla as a brand, I mean I see sooo many TESLA here in Xiamen, it is crazy. And about his personal life and personality issues, I think most of us just regard them as "funny" anecdotes, no one takes them seriously due to the lack of access of Twitter(or X). So mostly what we hear about him are all positive sides, and funny ones. So we generally have good impression on him. P.S. I did watch the podcast he did with Lex Fridman, I do find him knowledgable and smart...and I have got to say I like him as well. Or maybe it is just because he is generally friendly towards Chinese, even it is just for the market, I don't know, it is a subjective perspective that I cannot escape. And he definitely nail that part toward the Chinese I will say. I just hope that he does not change like Zuckerberg, who was also very friendly before...for the market...LOL.

Hardly, The current administration and progressives in general are behind Tesla's mission statement 100% and have passed significant bipartisan bill to help promote domestic mining, EVs, renewable energy, and domestic chip manufacturing. As an aside Musk is speed dating right wing celebrities and promotes some right wing tropes. The leading GOP/MAGA Presidential candidate is opposed to Tesla and their mission as well being against renewable energy and the fact of climate change and the need to mitigate excess greenhouse gas production.

China is not open for foreign business. What you see during Covid lock lockdown in China is the true China. Businesses are leaving China because they don’t want to deal with a totalitarian state. Musk still deal with China because he needs the market. TikTok is banned in China. China ban all western social media apps. China doesn’t want its people to see anything outside of Chinese apps. That's right! Exactly how it should be and it's not that difficult...it's the power hungry and the greedy ones that keep the people and countries against each other. People in general are decent and if we can work together and put our minds together who knows what we might come up with...but there's always someone or something to battle in life...SAD!!! Say what you will about Elon, but that man knows how to execute. Once those robo taxis run in China and people are getting in and out of autonomous vehicles like in the movie "the demolition man" the rest of the world that hates Elon for the multitude of reasons will still be forced to seriously consider this as part of regulation and pass it .. allowing Tesla to be the premier autonomous software provider. The only way any other car company can compete is either license the software or work together as a consortium to collect this data and build the compute (maybe 20 years delayed) either way this move by Elon will change the world. If the western would has to much politics to get this passed go through another indirect door

Musk is in China to beg them not kick Tesla out when the US starts a war over Taiwan.
