It's so wild to me that while the TCG started with Effect Monsters, early adopters over in Japan actually had a period of time where monsters only had stats and nothing else. Not even Magic or Pokemon started with monsters/creatures with no additional abilities (move effects or powers in the case of Pokemon)

Skull red bird was onenof my favs as a kid. I had La jinn and neo because i got the yugi and kaiba starter decks . I love the way it looks and 1550 was considered a beater cause only 4 other monsters lv4 had higher atk than that. La jinn battle ox togue doll and neo and dragon zombie.

Gotta love the old-school crude creature era. Konami should hire more overseas artists that do art covers for metal bands, ya' know... just a change of pace from all the milk toast anime girls. There's Memento that kinda do it but they're just recycling old art. Also my fav from this vol is the homie Man eata' 😬

single cards have too many multiple effects and all have negates(reee this card needs protection or people dont think its good and pay money!), should have never been a thing, change my mind

It's the natural progression of a game that's old enough to rent a car in the U.S. 'We've got old formats you can check out'.... that's all I can really tell ya. Also, I think the furthest they should have gone in card design was sticking to a blueprint of BLS or CDE, Scientist and Stein. Cards with cost of resource instead of just flipping through your whole entire deck turn 1.
