    It doesn’t matter if the tire is new or old, I did mine while they were on the car and even after the first 3 or so kilometres they were cracked up. The main problem is the tire flexes and the paint dries hard so any bits of movement in the rubber causes it to crack. For it to work the paint would need to stay partially wet ie like silicone to avoid the possibility of cracking.

    Oil base pen colour will get yellowy after a moment later so I tried to put clear coat on top of letters with a brush. It’s been 3month, but still look similar as the first time when i did without cracking letters I think so far it’s the best way to do it

    Interesting results. I "experimented" with oil based vs the acrylic a few years ago and had way better durability with the acrylic (both on new and used tires) . Didn't yellow/brown as quickly as oil. Neither like tire shine tho lol. I also found acrylic was easier to touch up (doesn't smear very much compared to oil based).

    Really? What kind of acrylic did you use? I'm guessing that the reason mine did not come out well was because of it being from a paint pen.

    sir_dannyv I used the same paint pens actually lol. I think the difference was I didn't scuff up the tires with sand paper, I just cleaned the tires using wheel & tire cleaner and plastic bristle brush. I think the oil/resin still tires was what caused your results vs mine.

    Chris Oliveras you can but if the paint is too cracked it won't look as smooth. I drove the car for 2 weeks and then noticed the cracks. The problem was that I didn't paint the tires when they were mounted on the car. The sidewall flexed when I put them on the car and caused cracking.

    Ranger tire paint. But I’m having trouble too. I believe that it’s mostly my tire preparation. I used greased lightning and a wire brush then just rinsed. We’re it holds it holds good. But where it cracks and flakes it looks bad. I’m just using the brush to scratch the painted parts and flake off the other. I’m on my third coat. I can see a fourth in my future. Tires off. Good years 2017.

  • @dverdin55

    @dverdin55

    6 жыл бұрын

    A reason why heat will mess up the tire paint? Its just on new tires mostly New tires have some resin on it from when they were made to keep them fresh and new. It goes away after you drive around on them. That resin will mess with the paint so its best to drive the tires around for a few hundred miles to get the resin out.
