The editing is weird, it seems like the shutter speed is too slow and the grading is so bland. Looks like it`s shot on early digital lol.

They can only make the claim that these films were shot entirely on Imax cameras because of a new(ish) camera the Arri Alexa 65. This gives up to 6.5k resolution, which is a far cry from the 16k resolution of a real Imax camera as used in Dark Knight/Rises. Basically the bench mark for what constitutes "shot on Imax" got substantially lowered.

With channel-based systems such as 5.1 and 7.1, the audio mixers specify which channel each sound should play from, each channel corresponding to one or more speakers. Different speaker placement will change how it sounds, and adding more channels won't be of any real benefit. In space-based systems (Atmos and DTS X), the sound mixers specify the location in 3D space that each sound should come from. The playback equipment then interprets this location and plays it from the speaker or speakers that most closely matches the location. These systems have height channels, the speakers for these are located on the ceiling. For example, if you add four height channels (ceiling speakers) to a 5.1 system, it becomes 5.1.4

@@sorryi6685 the only digital films Snyder has made thus far has been Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon. All his other movies were shot 35mm and/or IMAX 70mm.

For those wondering, this video was filmed in 2007 which is why it looks like this.

Well, this is nice, but there are very few actual IMAX theatres left in the world. Original 70mm IMAX projectors have largely been replaced by the dual 2k digital projectors, known as Lie-max. Recently, they've been pushing their new dual 4k Laser projection systems which are still lower resolution than the original 70mm's theoretical 12k resolution, but apparently the new ones are brighter due to the laser rather than xenon lamp. Still, it's difficult to find proper full size IMAX screens these days. I know there's one in Melbourne, the currently largest IMAX screen since the one at Sydney is closed. I don't know of any other that actually comes close to it in size.

While I agree, there also aren’t many films that are shot on 70mm IMAX. If more movies utilized that, i’m sure 15/70 would be used more.

@@Seethi_C , true. It's just really difficult to film with those due to the size of the cameras and film rolls as well as the related logistics. I don't think it's commercially feasible, but I can't help but look back fondly at those amazing science documentary screenings at the old IMAX domes which were mostly in planetariums.

Yeah I’m trying to research the history of Imax. Last time I watched an imax movie was over 10 years ago and I remember it being huge in a dome theatre. That place has since been demolished and I watched my first “imax” film since then yesterday at the movie theater and was confused and underwhelmed. It was so much smaller than what I remembered and I thought I had walked into the wrong room.

They are brighter, but it's not a big enough difference to notice unless you somehow look at them side by side.

If you want to experience IMAX then watch DUNKIRK IN 70 MM FORMAT THAT'S NOLAN VISION

I’m from the Philippines and I hope the IMAX in SM City Cebu will be okay. I was supposed to watch Avengers Endgame on IMAX but the operators said they will show the movie in 2D because they have technical problems. He said that the technician will arrive on Friday from Canda to fix it. It’s already Sunday and it’s still not fixed. Smh

Don't forget the image resolution. If it's not at least 8K or the film equivalent, it's not IMAX.

Yes, it was! I watched it in "normal" 3D first and didn't think that the difference would be that big but damn, the bigger screen and bigger glasses really changed the experience!

I just don’t like that most FILM IMAX projectors have been replaced with digital projectors which project a 1.85:1 ratio vs the IMAX 1.33:1 ratio, sort of defeats the purpose.

Small correction: Digital IMAX is actually a 1.90:1 ratio. And 70MM IMAX is 1.43:1. And I completely agree. I would love to watch a movie on 70MM IMAX but there isn't one in my country

The REAL, genuine, un-watered down IMAX was great. In 2022 in many countries, due to very high rental costs, the cineplexes had to be downsized, leading to a watered down IMAX (renamed MAXX in many countries), with the subsequently unavoidable situation of moving the downsized screen closer to viewer, and all viewers sitting on a much steeper floor, many iMax/Maxx cineplexes are crappy. If you want the absolute in image fidelity in 2022….SAMSUNG’s ONYX. The biggest Onyx OLED screen in the world is now in India.

I head up mastering and distribution facility in London and still (off the top of my head) am unclear how imax fill their screen with a standard 2K DCP

Ads are becoming smarter. Soooo, at what resolution is the film scanned ? And later at what resolution the digital format projected ? A 70mm , even a 35mm film has over 16k of detail. I don't think those digital projectors are more than 4k.

@@SimpleAgario You know that, special effects are rendered in 2k right ? Well not all but like 80% of the movies. Marvel movies, and others that rely on heavy GCI, are actually done in 2k, so if they use IMAX 70mm film cameras, and they scan the film at 16k (which is pointless because it will take sooooo much resources to edit the footage so it's probably no more than 4k scan). do all the CGI and print on a new 70mm film or play it digitally, you won't see more than a 2k image. So ye.
