I found a 34.5 online. It feels like I’m swinging a whole tree. It’s reserved for 8th and 9th innings and when we are up by 5 or more.

@@joangelrodriguez143 it’s an old wood bat. I found it on an online goodwill auction for like $5 and the shipping was like $15. I can’t find any more of it so good luck finding one if you want one. I tried looking up the name on it too and found nothing. I’ll keep digging if you’d like. I’ll let you know if I find anything.

When it comes to bat length, try to imagine slicing the bat into .5 inch long sections. Now, imagine the path of the swing for each section. Swing path is usually a rotation, like a half circle. Essentially, you have to push each section in a half circle. The half circle closest to the hands will be small and doesn't take much effort to push a section along, but the half circles farthest away are long and take a lot of effort. Every time you go up .5 inches, you add an even LARGER half circle that takes even MORE effort than the previous longest section. This is the basis of length as a measurement of weight. Even if the bat has the same scale weight, it'll be heavier. To get swing weight of a longer bat equal to that of a shorter bat, its scale weight will have to be lower. This is important in USSSA, because with some bats, it's possible to move up an inch and move down a drop weight. In that regard, the swing weight could be equalized or even lighter. A 30" drop 5 may be heavier than a 31" drop 8 or vice versa. If a bat has the same swing weight and different bat length, the longer bat will usually be better because the speed of rotation is greater. There aren't any companies i know that do this successfully and in slowpitch, a lot of bat companies do a progressive endload. Most 2 piece hybrids are also a progressive endload whereas for 1 piece bats, it is different for everyone. If a bat has the same scale weight and even the same balance point, the longer bat will feel heavier because it has a longer path. So if you are using a drop 2 33" and move up to a drop 3 34", it'll still be heavier, so with wood bats, quarter lengths and half lengths are SUPER important because drop 3 is usually the highest drop in wood.

@@anthonydolce5401 the other way around. A 33" drop 2 and a 34" drop 3 both weigh 31 oz, but because the distribution of the weight is further out, the 34" will feel heavier. I have a 33" 36 oz bat that I call Mjolnir and i use it to show off during BP or demos, but for some reason, it feels just a little bit heavy than a 110 34" drop 2 i made for someone. It's 1 inch shorter and 4 oz heavier!

​@@KT-ed8hj If you're referring to the bats in this particular video, then no. You can see at 0:43 in the video all of these bats are drop 3 (-3). So Will is comparing a 32/29 vs a 32.5/29.5 and so on. The bats are going up in scale weight while also going up in length. Basically, the bat is the same except more metal is getting added to the end to make it longer. This makes the difference in swing weight, power, and barrel control between bat lengths bigger than if they were all the same scale weight. Tevatron's comment was talking about bats where the scale weight doesn't go up by the same amount the bat length does. The Baseball Bat Bros have videos about "long and light vs short and heavy" that cover this. It's different for BBCOR compared to wood bats.

I’ve started swinging a wooden 34” AP5 a few weeks ago at 15, and within a couple days it really helped me with mechanics and it makes it feel so easy to swing my regular 33 BBcor in game.

i agree i swung a 243 -2 in the cage during the off season then going back to my 33 30 cat 9 connect it feels incredibly light and helped me me able to make bat as a freshman

Back in high school one of the first companies to offer the half sizes was Rip-It. I used their first prototype air in a 33.5. It was unreal

My brother has hit with a 34” 2018 voodoo insane since his junior year of high school. He is committed to Colorado mesa university for next years season. He has been in juco for three years and is finally getting a chance to play at a higher stage and I couldn’t be more excited for him!

My 13 y/o son loves your bat reviews and therefore I use them for product research prior to purchasing his gear for the upcoming seasons (on what seems like a yearly basis now). He bought himself a 32/27 CAT9 Connect last year for Middle School ball with his "Dinger Dollars" from travel tourneys, picked up a 32/29 The Goods last summer for Little League and the JV/15u tourneys, and his 33/30 VooDoo One is scheduled to arrive Wednesday. He has a compact swing, never swings hard and is always balanced, yet refuses to swing a balanced style bat. I used to think a lighter bat would be better for him with his swing style, but he squares the ball up and it flies off the barrel with what looks like minimal effort from a 6'2 170 pound kid. Just wanted to say thanks for all the informative videos that have led to him choosing bats he has success with!

I used a 32 from 7th grade until my junior year. I then went to 33 and hated it. I went back to 32 for my senior year and college and hit better than ever. I'm 5'10" and would crowd the plate so I could reach the outside better. I loved the inside fastball so it helped but did take a ton of hit by pitches. I moved to 33 because it made you feel cooler and weird peer pressure, but I was just a better hitter with a 32. It would have been nice to try a 32.5 back then. This was 2002-06 time frame.

Watching this in 2024, kudos to you for working on your craft. I can tell you have been grinding the past 2 years and we as viewers appreciate that. Awesome video dude!

You just proved what I found out about the 34" bat. I could push the ball into the power alley (R/C). A 33" I could pull the ball or catch up to a fastball pitcher. Great video.

When I started in men's competitive fast pitch our bats were 34/36 with a 16" barrel. We were swinging at pitches in the 60 -70 mph range but from softball pitching distance. I had no issues at 16 swinging those beasts. I played one game in HS baseball, completely different pitch presentations, and went 6/6 with 6 HRs. I was only 5'9'' but 260 lbs. I wasn't fat at all so that helped a bit. I wrecked my knee shortly after in wrestling practice so baseball didn't stick.

Actually, the Whiskey Throttle Show holds that title, but this is a great channel for sure.

I’m 6’1” 200 and I’ve swung a 32” and 32.5” for a long time. I’ve tried going up to 33” just too much for me. But I’m also more a contact hitter and was never worried about hitting home runs. My favorite hitter to copy was chipper Jones. I batted 2nd a lot in high school and college so getting on base and stealing was my job. Swinging a bigger bat felt heavy and less control of the barrel

2nd hitters are usually my favorite type of players.

So 2 things i noticed. As the bat length increased, your launch angle varied more. With the shorter lengths, you'd constantly be 20-30 with a few in the perfect perfect range of 7-15 With the heavier bats, your launch angle would go up in the 40s and vary a lot. This is a testament to the increase in swing weight. The longer bats have your hands moving slower, but because the hitting zone is farther out from the center, the barrel is moving faster, maybe even just as fast. It isn't just about the mass or increased swing weight. The difference in scale weight between your first bat and your last bat was equivalent to a thick slice of cheese. The difference comes in moment of inertia and barrel speed

Coming from a 6'5 200 pound junior in high school who swings a 34, id say that if you can handle it, its totally worth it. Ive been swinging my 34 goods 2 piece for about a year, and absolutely love it.

At 6' 5" a 33 would be too short really..

13 and in 8th grade but play up at 14u. Got the 32”/29 Meta for Spring to make the jump to BBCOR. Hit tanks with it. Probably get the 33” over the summer to get ready for freshman year. Thanks for information and great content 🔥

I'm actually studying this kind of stuff in hs physics class right now. The longer the bat is, the further the average point of mass is to the pivot point. This increases rotational inertia, making the bat harder to swing. Longer bats are also heavier which makes them harder to swing. However, more inertia and mass means more momentum, which is why despite being harder to swing/control, you get higher exit velocity.

Customized a CB35 33.5/29.5. I think it’s the perfect blend of a large sweet spot with good bat speed. In HS I used to swing an Easton S1 34/31

Back when I played in high school 20 years ago we did not have anywhere near the data that kids have today on bats. But just playing around with different sizes and bats in BP we could tell then what you're doing now: bigger bat means harder hit and farther hit. When I was 17 I was 6'3" and 200 pounds so I didn't have any issues getting the 34 inch bat around and that's what I swung. Ironically enough, I wasn't a home run or power hitter, I was a contact hitter. Back then with those BESR bats like the Easton ZCore I swear I was probably hitting exit velo of between 100-105mph. It was legit scary how hard I could hit a ball off a 34 inch ZCore.

When I played ball for the Pads scout team, one of the coaches came up to me and asked to see my bat. He and the hitting coach had a bet that I was swinging a 32 inch and the other thought it was a 32.5. I swung a 33/30 141 and they didn't know how I was crowding plate that much and still getting the barrel around on inside heaters. Hitting really is an art, from your potential to hard work to finding what specs work for you on a bat. Practice for real play, live AB's are really beneficial

I know your comment is old but I decided to look into speeds again. My son hammers anything with a light bat but is being to to swing a 33 or 34 because he is 6’3 without shoes and 6’7 wingspan. He needs a lighter bat!! I keep telling him this.

Good vid. Always interesting to see how bat length can determine batted ball speed and distance. In the end it boils down to whether you want distance or control. What you might do on your slowpitch channel to further dig into this is to try using the overlap grip vs. a standard grip. See which grip produces the best batted ball speed and distance consistently.

Yeah. Your build definitely makes a difference, but no one should eliminate the 34 unless they have swung it. Wood bats especially. I swing a 33/31 max Bat currently, but the 34 is nice.

6'3" 235 is such a unit size.

I personally had a lot of luck with the long ball with a 34 bbcor aeroburner in 14u. It was either gone or pop out though no in between. I’ve now slowed it down and I’m swinging a 33 voodoo one and loving it. Definitely more of an end load guy but this bat makes up for it.

I started swinging a 32/30 wood bat because I like the 32 length but wanted some more mass in the end. It would be cool to see a comparison video like this of a 32/29, 33/30 wood compared to a 32/30 wood.

Hey, I'm not the biggest guy in the world (6'1"/200) but I hit for tons of power in highschool with a 34" bat. Crowded the plate with a big loopy LH swing too. I should maybe mention I'm old and that it was a 34/29 Redline. My summer team played on a field that was real short, like 315' down the right field line and things got a little silly that last summer that bat was legal. I stuck with the 34/31 after the rules changed my senior year and into college ball and maybe I should've backed down to a 33/30, but I felt like it was worth it for the power.

In HS summer Connie Mac league ( yea I'm old), I was 6'- 6'1" 180 and swung a 34 ( wood). We shared the same bat and my friend broke it during a game. went to get a new bat and the turn I liked was in a 33. Swung that bat much better. hit the 330' fence once and got one GRD. Hit a couple balls well with the 34 one foul over the fence down the line. Just very inconsistent. My batting average went from about )0.240 to 0.380

Swung a 34 through out my highschool/college/pro career. I'm 6'2 215. I think it depends on the hitter. 34 really isn't much more if you learn to swing it right.

Bryce Harper swings a 33 , people like Arron judge who are like 6.7 230 swing bigger bats, because they are big enough and strong enough to do so, I’m sure all 3 of those guys could swing a 34 or more but they dont do so for a reason. The guy in the video is absolutely right not wrong

I’m 6’0 220 just got into baseball haven’t played in 11 years I’m in adult league for fun I got a 33 inch I’m hitting the ball deep but I think I’m gonna use a 32 to have more control on where I hit the ball

Was always a contact hitter. Back in early high school I was like 5’8 150 pounds. Struggled to even get a 32 bat through the zone with speed. Hit the gym and gained 10-15 pounds, and it made all the difference. My average jumped up the next season and I was hitting for the highest average on the team. Opted to not move up to a 33 because I could make such good contact with the 32, and power was never my game anyway.

5’10 sophomore and swing 33 and handle it nicely also straight bar deadlift 500lbs

I started swinging a 33 in 30oz bat in 8th grade and I was like 150 pounds at 5 foot 7 inches. I'm a senior in college now still playing ball. I've always swung a 33 bat. tried 34, could swing it but felt more comfortable with a 33 cuz I'd pop up or be late swinging a 34. Now I'm 195 at 5 foot 9 inches swinging a 33 still

Take note. I was 5’10” 200 my senior year of HS. My bench max was around 300. With a drop 5 34” redline I hit six bombs and had a 400 batting average. Fast forward 2 years with a drop 3, 34” and my batting average my last year of JC was like 200 and lots of fly outs to the track. My bench was up to 375 though! Anyway, long story short… go short! If I had to do it over I would probably try chocking up on a 33 and stand on top of the plate.

Same I was 5'10 240 in high school i had an Easton reflex core 34 drop 5 for right handed hitting looking back I wish I'd have gone down to a 32 drop 5 that I used for lefty..had a higher average from the left side. Now I use a 31 inch bat in mens senior league lol. Can turn on the inside pitch and my arms are long enough to cover the plate.

@@domanicvaldez ya the -5 were kind of like cheating… However, my nephew hit 1 home run in HS and played on the same fields this summer in his wood bat league and hit like 4 home runs. I think those -3’s are purposefully dead. We’ll see what he has next year at his D2 school. Hopefully he will start. He should, he’s 6’3” and fast as lightning. He’ll be way better than I ever was.

Wood bat leagues are the best! My career halted due to several injuries and life shifts but I still train. I had 2 D1 Offers, Multiple D2 & D3 offers but a torn UCL and a Ruptured Disc later I lost my career. Im still young (20 almost 21) so maybe I will go play indy ball or something for fun. @@wesleyturner1979

Barrel size and mass, do play a role in exit velocity, but don't forget about how length increases leverage. When you consider the relationship of "leverage" on the increase in exit velocity, it works very similar to shaft length in golf drivers. Put the same head on different length shafts and even if they have the same exact weight, the longer shafts will generate higher exit velocity, which in turn, will generate more distance. That's why my college coach told us to swing the "longest" bat you can get through the zone...

Back in 2016 my junior year I switched to a 34 5150 and started raking switching from the Louisville Attack that was a 32. My numbers jumped and I never looked back. If you have decent to good bat speed you’re going to have a good time. I do recommend lol

same, i swung a 32 all through high school. my arms were too long to swing a 33 or 34. by my Jr year i was 6'2 245 so i didn't really need the bat length anyways to hit homeruns. but all we had were 1 piece aluminum bats back then.

@@sirmonkey1985exactly!! What’s your wingspan? My sons us 6’7. I’ve used this same argument. Coaches keep pushing the bigger bats. But when we’ve worked together everything tells me he needs a well balanced shorter bat. How big of a difference was it for you? How can I explain to him that he will still be in the zone? He tends to miss the barrel consistently regardless of the time he puts in.

You should do a exit velo test video where you see the difference between a standard grip, and the way you hold it with your pinky hanging over the knob

As an older Adult league player at 5'8 160lbs all my bats are 33" but I have varying weights. Some of the pitchers still throw in the 70s while others are real slow in the 40s! I use 33/30 for the fastest pitchers then a 33/32 for the slow pitchers. I am now thinking maybe I should try a 32/29 to see if I have a bit more barrel control against the harder throwers who typically also have more FB movement..

I play too. The 32 is much easier to control, Bellinger model. But if you get a good 33, the ball goes further and more exit velo.

I need to decide between the select power or the new gunner. Any thoughts or other bats?

i think it just depends on the hitter because im ab 5'9 140 and im swinging a 33/30 goods and i have better barrel control and exit velo with that than i do with a 32/29

@@saybian1940 it is definitely a little heavy. Depends on the velo you’re seeing. It’s hard to have consistent barrels but I like it because mishits the ball flies off of it and you don’t need to barrel everything perfectly

Need to do a tra four vid now. See if the trend keeps on. I swung a 34 in hs at only 190 lbs, in pretty competitive FL...its personal preference.. Drop bombs.. I wish I'd grown up in drop 5 gorilla ball area.. that would been fun

So my question becomes for a 32 what bat would you recommend? Because most of your voting and rankings are based off of the 33/30 version of the bat

Curious what it would look like for a small but strong(ish) little leaguer... typically the move is to go up to a 29 -10 but what if he stayed at 28 and moved up to -8. Does the 28 hit the ball harder because it weighs more and have better barrel control?

Rn I’m 5’10 150 as a junior and I’ve pretty much been around this size since freshman year. I’ve always been noticeably stronger than everyone around my size. So freshman year I swung a 32/29 voodoo insane and I definitely wasn’t being bullied by higher velocity but I popped up more than I’d like to. About midway through the season I switched to the 33/30 quatro pro 2018 (glowstick) and my hitting did a complete 180, the insane was just a little too endloaded for me at the time. Sophomore year tho I switched to the 1st Goods 2-pc model (black and Gold) I had hit the weight room a little harder and was actually able to swing one of the most endloaded bats in bbcor effectively only popping under the ball once from what I can remember. Now we’re here today a couple weeks away from the start of my Junior season still swinging the 33/30 goods and I have more control of it than ever. I did just get a custom voodoo one and I’m excited to see how it swings and if I’ll like the more balanced feel over the heavier goods. To summarize this overall (slightly too long) comment, you don’t always have to swing what someone your size “should” swing; swing. Usually you should swing what the general bat community tells you to swing for your size, but there are always people like Enrique Bradfield on vandy who is an exceptional contact hitter swinging a goods, Ozzie Albies of the Braves who swings one of the biggest bats I’ve ever seen, and lastly me above average high schooler 🙃

what wood bats would you reccomend

I’m 6,4 220 in high school I used a 34 the goods my senior year and batted 430 and had 7 home runs. Got the bat around on mid 80s fastballs it really is you just having to get used to it. I probably would have switched to a 33.5 tho If I could find a goods at that length.

5’6” 160 lbs in high school and swung a 33/30 with no problem. In junior league I swung a 34/29 just for fun and hit a 365ft Grandslam. But used 33/28 mostly. But at 5’6” with a 33/30 I didn’t have a problem. Junior league was about 13-14 y/o back in my day

Im 5'11 with an open stance swinging a 34/29 sambat I just prefer to hit outside pitches when I can

33.5 especially the hzrdus are pretty good for guys who don’t wanna quite use a 34 and it absolute rakes

33.5 here. I was a 5’10” 190 lbs farm kid. Didn’t hurt any that the bats were drop 5 when I played.

Even for power hitters, if you can make more regular, more consistent contact with a smaller bat and still get it out, go for that. Runs count the same whether they clear the fence by an inch or a mile.. Coming from a guy who was 6’5 and 210 in high school.

Son is 6’3 and rail thin 151 pounds with a 6’7 wingspan. Hes only a sophomore so the weight will come but I’ve told him all this time swing a shorter bat (lighter) but coaches keep telling him to use a 33 or 34. When he moves to a lighter bat he crushes anything. To me speed equals power. He’s not tanking home runs anytime soon. Just not happening. However with a lighter bat I feel it’s a possibility.

@@TheRoadLessChosen Angular velocity is a function of radius so in theory a longer bat has a faster barrel, but that would only apply if your lad could swing both with the same hand speed. Going to a longer bat when he’s not ready will just screw up his mechanics as he has to sacrifice proper form to shift the heavier bat and cause him to lose power in the long run - ignore the coaches, have him swing the lighter bat properly and move up bat sizes as he stacks on muscle..

I’ve been using 33.5 Wood bat since Middle School, Senior year at HS 33.5 too and now Freshman college I’m trying to control 100% 34 size but if a kid ask me what size I rather use is 33 inches a 100% once u start facing 88+ every game for a long season is just different

I had so many people telling me about THE GOODS and how its the hottest bat in high school rn. So I decided to get one, when i went to go order one I found out they didn’t have 34s in stock, so I decided to order a 34.5. I’ve been raking with it. All that to say its really up to preference and finding a balance of power and contact for your own swing. Oh and Btw I’m a 6’2 200 senior in high school and I’ve always used bigger bats.

6’6 235 college fresh here. 34 is money if you can swing it and get it around the zone. I swing a 34 2020 5150 (silver one) and I gotta say In BP I gotta swing a 33 harder then my 34 to see the ball launch.

I swung a 34/31 in college but choked up. Wasn’t a power hitter but still hit a few dingers

I swing a 35 32 , bc you barely have to swing to drive the ball, only problem is if they have a sharp cb your kinda done for with 2ks if they have a little velo

It depends a lot on how you like the balance of the bat, I’m 5’6” and with no trouble I swing a 34/31

I’m thinking about getting ‘the goods’ 32/29. Is there a difference in exit velo between the 32 inch and 33 inch?

I’m a freshman 6’0 180 and swing a 33 should I be swinging a 33

Would you guys reccomend getting the 243 rawlings wood comp? I'm currently swinging a slightly endloaded metal bat, and wondering if the weight is too much, or nit. Thanks

It's a pretty similar swing weight to a bat like The Goods

I think they do because I got a 31 in. Bat but it didn't work but when I used a shorter bat I hit more

There’s a 37/37 axe bat in my teams indoor practice center and BP with it is hilarious

I was swinging a 29 -10 30oz about a year ago then I jumped to a 33 -3 30oz and I’ve been hitting better
