It is amazing how much BBCOR killed the bats. I played high school ball from 2013-2016. My first season was the 2nd year of BBCOR restrictions. The bats were awful. Going from drop-10 fully composite LS Triton to an early Easton XL1 was terrible. However, my freshman year I played junior little league. We were making a run for the regional tournament (we came up just short). However, little league still allowed us to use BESR bats. Only one guy on our team had a BESR bat. Don't remember what model it was, but literally everyone on the team used it because it was so juiced compared to BBCOR.

The 4 hole hitter squarched a line drive down the 3rd baseline, i was already on the bag so i just stuck my glove out and i caught it, without thinking i threw it to 2nd and the 2nd baseman threw it to 1st but it sailed over 1st's head. Not that it mattered anyway there were 3 outs. I couldn't beileve what just happened and all the adults there couldnt either. A text book bang bang double play from 9 year olds. Yep, I went from high school to college ball from 2000-2001. The Reflex C-Core's (or really any Reflex from ~'96-2000) were just plain lethal, LITERALLY. My college roommate pitcher had to get reconstructive facial surgery from a shot back up the middle. In 8th grade, using an orange Reflex Extended, I drilled a liner up the middle that went off the pitcher's head and landed in shallow center field (and I probably only weighed 150 pounds). Needless to say, he was rushed to the hospital. The gold Omaha used in the video was only less hot because it was drop 3 instead of drop 5. What many of us did in college is adjust to a shorter bat to get a similar result (eg, I went from 33" 28oz Reflex in high school to the 32" 29 oz Omaha Gold in college). The trampoline effect of the bats hadn't changed - they were just heavier. Anyways, all our starters in high school had a home run in my senior year, with one kid eventually hitting OVER 50 in his high school career 😂

I grew up on the s.s. of chicago and graduated 8th grade in 1999(class of '98') I had an Easton reflex in my last season before high school, and in that year, I hit the pitcher in the chest and stopped his heart, and that year, luckily we got a defibrillator and it saved his life. The same season, I hit a 430' grandslam to win the world series. I swear on everything I love. I loved that bat. I still have it. I was hitting 400'+ homeruns in games. I was average height and weight. My friends were always 2 grades ahead of me, and I was hitting way further than almost every kid in any league I was playing in. I could've probably played for a decent college, but being better than most my age was good enough. To be a college or pro baseball player, you need a certain mindset. It's the difference between being a 'winner' and a 'could have been'. I look back and regret not working harder and being 100% dedicated. We use to play games in high school at sox Park and I've hit 3 homeruns in 6 games played there. None of them made it out of the bullpen but still hit 3 where my favorite team plays. My team mate was brian bogusevic (bogy). He obviously had what it took to be a pro. He could hit further but I had a better batting average, better arm, and I could run way faster. My coaches had many talks with me about being more dedicated and my attitude. Bogy just had what it took to go to the next level and be a pro. I was happy when he was drafted (astros)and was at the game when he played the chicago White Sox.

@justarandominternetdude2579 it stands for bat exit speed ratio, basically they measure the exit velocity of the ball and it had to be in a certain range of speed, thats how I understood it.

  • @GR8APE69

@@michaeltaylor4271Yup. Different from BBCOR which stands for Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution, which is a fancy way of saying how much the bat is able to multiply force. The problem with BESR is that measuring exit speed instead of the multiplying force of the bat itself allowed for the BESR stats to be fudged. That's why BESR bats were the era of "breaking in" composite connection style bats. A brand new bat would pass the BESR regulation, but a "broken in" BESR bat would end up increasing its exit velocity by over 10 MPH in some cases. That's ultimately why the regulation system was changed, because manufacturers bad figured out how to get around the regulation and it started what was basically an arms race in bat technology. That's also why the Stealth bat he's using in this video doesn't win, because it was a brand new bat. If he were to find an older one that somebody has used and taken a lot of BP with first, I guarantee you that Stealth comp would've come in first in this video.

That's what I'm saying! Using a non-broken in BESR composite bat is pointless because they were intentionally designed to FAIL the BESR test AFTER being well broken in. That's where the whole concept of bat rolling came from. You'd have dudes in the dugout standing on their DeMarini cF3 and Stealth Comps, rolling them under their weight because it gave those bats SIGNIFICANTLY more pop. It's literally the entire reason why BESR was done away with, and then most composite and 2 piece bats practically disappeared overnight. BESR was the pinnacle of bat technology.

i graduated in 1998, I had a reflex gold, a reflex extended, and a tpx gold. All of them dropped nukes. Honestly, imo the extended was the most consistent. You could hit off the handle or the end of the bat and still crush it. The gold just felt perfect in my hands at least. You didn't feel a thing when you connected, it was balanced so well compared to the other 2. Lastly the TPX was the most inconsistent but when you hit that sweet spot you would hear a ping that would make your ears ring and that ball was going 400+. One thing I do want to point out is these bats made us good fielders. The amount of times I almost got killed at 3rd was scary, had to have some serious reaction times back then. Great video!

I played in an adult baseball league when I was in my mid 30's in 2003 here in Atlanta, and I hit the longest straight away center field walk off grand slam homerun that I have ever hit that traveled about 450 feet with that same exact Easton Relex C405 bat. The crazy thing about that bat is it was my favorite bat out of all the bats we had on the team and the bat was actually already cracked on the barrel when I hit that home run. It was a 34" 29oz Easton Reflex that I still have to this day I kept as a souvenir....I even went in the woods after the game and found the ball.

I still have my Maroon TPX bat from 94-95. It had a crazy sweet spot like no other bat I tried at that time. My entire high school team used it. I still take BP with it today. This video took me back to the 90's for sure. Great video.

Man I had that Maroon one and our first game junior year the end cap blew off of it on about a 30 degree day here in the great lakes region. The warranty replacement was the white ceramic with red and blue logos and wasn't nearly as hot. At least I didn't think so.

I should’ve kept all of the baseball bats I used when I was a kid! We had so many of the “Thumpers” in our team practice equipment bag! Graduated HS in ‘98! Our bats then were crazy! You confirmed it! Just came across this video, great baseball content, very original! Love it! There are so many different things to compare in baseball, you guys should never run out of ideas! You know I had to subscribe! 💪👍😎

I graduated in '98 also. We had a catcher on one of the leagues i was in use a c-core (it was drop 4 i think 33/29) and hit 40+ homers in a 35 game season. I was a starting pitcher and you had to attempt to not allow anyone to hit the ball. Either pop fly home runs or screamers through the infield. Had a few 140+ pitch games.

I still have my 80s green Easton (bought 1990) and the grip is one wrap of athletic tape 😳. That bat was everything to me. My parents didn't really have the money but managed to pick one up to start my high school journey.

You can just hear the difference between the bats. Alloy is unique where the lower the pitch, the hotter the bat. With composites, it kinda works that way but not always and not precisely so. I would LOVE to see you do the same comparison with senior league bats The drop 8s from the 90s, early 2000s 1.15 bpf bats like drop 8.5 tpx response, and the modern classics from 10s and 20s like xl-1, green zen, cat 9/x composite and hype fire

You guys should try the Mizuno bats of the '80s. As a player from that era, I can tell you those bats had crazy thump and a huge sweetspot By the way, the biggest gain of aluminum bats in comparison with wooden bats is not the maximum exit velo, but the help a batter got from the bigger sweetspots, resulting in substantial higher average exit velo

Late 90s was my era. We went undefeated 3 years in a row. Although we had all the best TPX bats, the bat that we mostly all used in our undefeated seasons was an Easton Unibody Flair composite bat. It was pretty rare I think. We were the only team that we ever played that had one. We broke it one year and got a new one for the next year. I still have it. I had the highest batting average in the league at .538.

2004 was the last year I played little league. That last year I had a .666 batting average but not a single home run. I was a great catcher, but don't tell anyone I said that, lol. I think the bat I used for that ridiculous batting average was an Easton Copperhead or something kind of like that? Maybe?
