How does an Inverter work? | Sine wave Inverter

Ғылым және технология

In this video we will explore the working of a basic Inverter created by an H-Bridge.
A sine wave and high-frequency triangle waves are compared in the comparator to generate a PWM which is used to drive an H-bridge, and an LC low pass filter is used to filter out the high-frequency triangle wave, thus providing the output similar to a sine wave.

    Great video !!! Basically a sinewave inverter is a class D power amplifier with reference sine wave at the input and an output tranformer to increase the voltage to desired rms level (220V or 110V)

    Most of the modern inverters use boost power supplies to crank up the voltage to 150 or 300VDC then drive the final output through a high voltage H bridge

    Can you plz tell about the snubber circuit calculation and how to design and how it works

  • @ExplorerStuff

    @ExplorerStuff

    3 жыл бұрын

    A snubber is a device used to suppress voltage transients in electrical systems. To suppress the transients, you need to store the energy and release it slowly. Hence, calculate the energy that needs to be suppressed (E). Then, select a max voltage that you want the capacitor to obtain (V). Energy stored in capacitor - E = C*(V^2)/2 -> Get the value of capacitance (C). And for resistor, Measure the max current current at the input of snubber circuit(I). R = V/I -> Get the value of resistor (R).

    Question : Why do we need PWM ? Can't we just use a low pass filter and take the first harmonic sine wave from the square wave ?

  • @beanapprentice1687

    @beanapprentice1687

    Жыл бұрын

    Filtering a square wave into a sine wave would require huge capacitors and inductors, which would waste a lot of power in the form of heat as they repeatedly charge and discharge.

    So, basically there are 2 route to build an inverter... 1. I called it single step inverter, the sPWM module drives an H Bridge at low voltage and drives a step up transformer, and from the output of the transformer connected to a feedback circuit.. (12vdc -> 220vac) 2. I call it 2 step inverter. So you have 320v DC supply from a DC to DC converter, and then feed it to H Bridge and then give it sPWM signal.. (12vdc -> 320vdc -> 220vac) and then do the feedback mechanism... The first route is the safest because you're working in low voltage (as long as you dont mess with the high voltage section). But because it's using iron core transformer, this design is the least efficient.. The second route, is quite dangerous and challenging.. you need to make a boost converter first (SG3525/KA7500 maybe?) To get 320vdc or source a ready made converter.. this is dangerous (basically everything above 90v dc is dangerous) and then you feed the 320vdc to a h bridge.. then you give it sPWM signal.. this is the efficient way because you are using switched mode power supply technique and using ferrite core transformer in the dc to dc step up Now for safety, there's a module called the EGS002 sPWM driver board. It's cheap (80k IDR/less than 15usd) and it will do everything for you... Overvolt, overtemp, undervolt, short circuit etc.. Now that I mention the driver board module.. I suggest you not make your own driver.. *do NOT* try to make your own module... It's too dangerous I almost died (literally) because of this experiment. You have been warned

    Why are they called inverters instead of converters? An example of an inverter would take a +5V and output -5V, hence inverting the voltage. These don't invert anything. They convert DC to AC, hence they should be called "converters".

  • @ExplorerStuff

    @ExplorerStuff

    3 жыл бұрын

    Originally converters were large rotating electromechanical devices used to convert AC to DC. Essentially they combined a synchronous ac motor with a commutator so that the commutator reversed its connections to the ac line exactly twice per cycle. The result is ac-in dc-out (with a lot of switching noise thrown in). If you invert the connections to a converter you put dc in and get ac out. Hence an inverter is an inverted converter.
