I started 10 years ago with a bulging/herniated disk. Now, I've been diagnosed with Spondy. This video was very informative. With the bulging/herniated disc with siatica pain I was doing in physical therapy the lay flat on stomach and pushing up on forarm. Now with this video I know not to do it anymore. I'll do the exercises you've shown on this video and others for Spony. Thanks guys.

Thanks guys for another informative video. I've naturally been doing the bar hanging exercise for years to relieve my symptoms. Glad I've been some exercises correctly as I have both spondylolisthesis at L5-S1 and reoccurring sciatica most days Atm in my right leg, which as you say one needs flexion and the other needs extension so this video may help with the chair exercise. I'll give this traction exercise a try to see if that helps.

Hi bob & brad.. thank you for making a video which explains my exact position!... its so helpful for me.. I've watched a lot of your videos as I'm ken to understand what is happening and how treat it, thank you for making the learning process light hearted and easy to understand!.. BTW aswell as having grade 1 spondylolethesis l5/s1 & disc bulge at l4/l5 I also have some sort of gluteul issue which i believe is Piriformis scar tissue (I fell off a bike onto my left side, big bruise but no pain until 3 weeks after, now the whole area is really tight and tender to stretch and rubbing sciatic nerve so I think possible scar tissue) your videos are really helpful .. THANKYOU!

great video! I have spondylolisthesis and had a spinal fusion 10 months ago, and this is spot-on. my PT was actually the one who discovered my spondy. my slip was unstable so ultimately I went ahead with the fusion to stabilize my spine and prevent further nerve damage. I recently started PT again to address some issues with my SI joint. I'm documenting my recovery on my KZread channel and blog, if you're ever interested in a first-hand perspective on recovering from a spinal fusion... :)

Thanks for all your videos. I have spondylolistis pain for 2 years. Apparently been there a long time without symptoms. Been doing PT for 2 years plus swimming and walking. Have improved but still struggling with it especially at work. Hearing from Brad gives me hope. Deciding on fusion. Brad, I was wondering how long you have had spondylolistis and what age you got it. Also wondering if you know of any studies of long term outcomes after fusion v conservative. I used to be strong like bull but those days seem over. Have been watching you a while before finding out about Brad. Can be a lonely struggle but Brad you have given me hope. It means a lot. Tony from Australia

i didn't realize you guys had a book. sorry if you had mentioned before. I truly love these videos on spodylosisthesis! they always encourage me! Brad, I know you said you can run about 3 miles. But what about riding a bike? Just curious. I haven't been able to ride nine for a few years. I know I've told you before but other then my spondy(grade 1 L4L5S1) I have groin/hip/pelvic issues. so seeing a pelvic floor therapist, massage and acupuncture. and urologist wants me to get some injections in the groin. hoping to over come this so I can get back to pt for my back. I have both a weak multifidus & core. and since my core is weak and I can't access at the moment everything else seems to be failing. but I he not given up hope. I just want to say thank you guys for these videos!

I also have lumbar spinal stenosis. So my. feet and back are in enormous pain. Aside from taking 12 Tylenol a day (what my orthopedist rexommended) do you have any suggestions. My feet throb and my lower back tightens. By the end of the day I am in so much pain.

I have compressed fractures of the L2, L4 and L5. Grade 1 spondylosis between Land L4, and Grade 2 between L5 and S1. Saw a back specialist but he can't help me except physio referral for back core strengthening. I live alone and heat with wood. My current physiotherapist says that the wood work is counter productive and my back won't get better. Supposedly my back is not damaged enough to operate on and now there's no more monitoring of physio. I kind of feel abandoned by the system. The back specialist says that I have a very weak core (lower back), like that of a 95 yr old woman. what exercises would you recommend or other steps. I also have a couple of degenerative disc in the lumbar area. please provide me with some type of guidance. Tks in advance.

I've gotten a Lot of relief by 'hanging' in the local YMCA's therapy pool. I support my arms on a pool noodle and and float vertically until the pain goes away. Then I float towards the shallow end, slooooowly making contact with the floor of the pool & returning my weight to my feet gradually as I walk the width of the pool. (perpendicular to the slope) Most times, when I can take the time to do this slowly enough, I can reduce pain that's a 10 on the 10 to 1 scale, down to a 2 or 3.

Inversion is absolutely NOT recommended for spondylolisthesis. It can cause it to become more unstable. I had a grade 3 slip at L5-S1 with pars fracture. Please do not do inversion if you have a fracture of the pars interinticularis, the most common cause of spondy.

Currently dealing with spondy and sciatica. I was just diagnosed Grade 1 and the sciatica has been physically limiting. I exercise 10 hours a week most of that is cardio so this has really been just as mentally challenging as physically. I'm still working out but most of my cardio is on the stair climber. I can't run or ride. I've been hanging from things and that has been the best treatment of anything. I look weird because I'll just grab a rafter in my house or building, but it works. I get better results from hanging than pushing.

I am weak in my upper body but was wondering if the nerve pain leaves for a while after you hang. @@angiebutcher4068 Hey!! Yes it does help. In fact I would touch my toes while hanging on purpose. It allows my back to float. Tried an inversion table but it wasn’t that great . The bigger thing that has helped me was chiro and not lifting weights over my head. And then good core exercises and cobra pose. For medications, Aleve works the best. Hopefully you get relief soon.

what about DDD, retrolisthesis, disc herniation, modic I changes, endplate spurs, facet hypertrophy all at L5-S1 with SI joint and hip pain and episodic sciatica? I am told to be more active by all of my doctors, but it hurts to do pretty much anything. Pain is most severe upon waking or prone resting and lessens throughout the day, but never goes away. I am 35 so am told surgery is not a viable option, nor are opioids. I was sent to PT, but the therapist, because i have full range of motion, opted not to have more than one session with me. Besides water sports, are there any safe exercises i can realistically achieve?
