I always found the flavor wheels on your website to be useful while helping me predict how a given tea will taste like and if I'll enjoy it. But indeed I was unaware of some design decisions that you explain in this video, that make it much easier to read the charts at a glance.

I just want to thank you and your staff at mei leaf for introducing me to quality tea! Tea has become very important to me over the past year and I feel it has, overall, improved my health!

Technical solution idea for better tea selection on your website: Let the peeps choose their desired amount of mineral, sweet and other flavours, in order to get matching tea search results. The easiest way is to create a "tea selector" section, allowing people to input numbers for each flavour, and get a search result page, with only the matching teas. And, if no ideal match is found, then there should be a "close match" section (i.e. teas being shown with "1" minerality instead of "0", like the person has chosen). Ideally - one would have the option to draw his own flavour wheel to get a result, but this isn't necessary. And, adding the flavour wheel a product picture for each tea (so peeps can see all flavour wheels in the results) might be a good idea.

Is there a way to put this into action on the Tea Slingers' discord? Maybe with a sort of live history, because the the 8 peaks might wobble around a bit.

I actually really like the meileaf flavour wheel. The one with all the specific notes. when I started doing more in-depth 10 step tastings they helped me pin point certain notes better. Now I rarely use it but once in awhile I take a glance to try pinning something down. I haven’t really used the flavour scope wheels other than a glance when comparing teas and buying

One thing I was always missing on the wheel is the Cha Qi indicator. People might be on the lookout for those heavy hitters, without regards to taste.

The fuzzier the wheel gets, the woozier you'll feel after the session. Or else you may need to visit your ophthalmologist. 😉 But yes, nice idea. Maybe a bar chart beside the wheel? Or a more psychedelic fill if the given tea is a heavy hitter? The only problem might be, that not everyone gets impacted to the same degree and there might be complaints. But then, one would learn to interpret the colour code/bar chart with growing experience. High amount of minerality is sometimes a good indicator in oolongs.

@@beth.7 If we're getting into designs :) I was thinking maybe about an aura or ring around the "wheel of flavours", the thicker and more psychodelically coloured the aura - the stronger the Cha Qi. But I bet that the design of the website is in good hands, with all those talented people in the team!

This is such a good video for new people coming to tea. I'll be sharing it with friends who I am introducing to the better end of tea. Even as someone who drinks a lot of tea and thinks about it deeply, this opened up some new ideas for me. One of my favorite Mei Leaf videos ever!

Thank you. That was helpful. I admire the passion, professionalism and creativity you put into your business. This makes me going Bach to your website even though VAT and shipping are a big hurdle (Sweden). I seriously consider a trip to London. Have to time it well. Have a great trip to the US!

I don´t like them too. But I have a different reason. I like to just drink the tea or anything else and savor the taste, not to think about it too much. This ruins my experience. Maybe it is just what you say, the own tasting notes. But these mines aren´t tasting notes at all. They are not like your in-depth tea description in videos. I don´t even notice tastes of fruit or nuts. I like to drink the fluid, not to talk about it.

Those? Those are subjective opinions from a very experienced tea drinker, they aren't necessarily going to be exactly what you taste, but they'll be ballpark accurate. If it says "fruity" and Don says it's moon fruit with fairy dust farts, you may not get that, but it WILL taste more or less fruity

Also - you’re concerning yourself with semantics, which hardly matter in this circumstance. “Those are subjective opinions of..” “they aren’t necessarily exactly what you taste” “but they’ll be ballpark accurate”. So basically you’re saying his experience might not be exactly dead on and be the same exact note everyone would find.. but it’s going to be ridiculously close. Why not just enjoy the educational aspect of the video and not worry about criticizing everything Mei Leaf does? I have moved on from being a Mei Leaf addict (still a big fan!) and have a much bigger range of tea info input, but there’s no point in your comment.. except to be critical in a nonsensical manner just to be negative and critical. Let’s bring positiviTEA back to the CommuniTEA. Why can’t we all just get along?

There are a lot of folx who drink tea because they like tea. And then there’s a whole different aspect of tea that is more concerned with the olfactory and sommelier approaches. This is obviously just a different aspect than what you’re into. Prime gatekeeping example.
