In General American, we always say "tch" in words like /mature/ and /fracture/. However, I can't think of an instance where we would say it to begin a word. /tube/ is always "toob" in my accent.

American English doesn’t seem to be very consistent in this regard. It tends to drop yods only in stressed syllables (for example, “nuclear” or “tuna”) and only after certain consonants (alveolar consonants + “th” sounds). But then you get a handful of words where yods are dropped in unstressed syllables (“costume” and “avenue”) kept in stressed syllables (“mature”) and dropped after labial consonants (“emu”, “puma” and “bubonic”). I’m not trying to bash AmE or anything but it’s stuff like this that makes it no surprise for me that BrE is generally taught as the standard in much of Europe and the Eastern world.

But an English singer Johnny Flynn pronounces "dew" "dyoo", not "joo" or "doo", so it sounds neither as "Jew" nor as "do": kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZHptpqZ7mM21lKg.html And I remember Galadriel in "The Lord of the Rings" pronounced "seduced by power" as "sedyoosed by power", not "sejoosed by power". She was portrayed by Cate Blanchette, who is from Australia, and I hear "tuna chewing" from Australians as well as from the British, but still she didn't turn /dju:/ into /d͡ʒu:/. On the other hand, Gideon (by the way, thanks to Gideon I found you, Luke), pronounces "deuce" "joos" so it sounds the same as "juice": kzread.info/dash/bejne/paWOl9RvoZvFg8Y.html So "tuna chewing" creates 4 pairs of homophones: "Jew" & "dew" (or "due"), "June" & "dune", "juice" & "deuce" and "jewel" & "dual". But I can't think of any minimal pair which contrasts /t͡ʃu:/ and /tju:/. Probably it's because there are few words that begin with "choo". Actually I can think of only one: "choose". "Tuesday" usually sounds like "choose day" in British accents, but "choose day" is not a word.

Hi William, I was referring to the change in the syllable onset, not the vowel sound. But regarding the vowel sound, there is a bit of variance in the /u:/ phoneme - but usually it's not as back as cardinal [u] or as forward as cardinal [y]. I was demonstrating the vowel sounds in my accent which is probably closer to [ʉ].

It's an American company, therefore you should be pronouncing it the American way. Same as you plebs not being able to properly pronounce Nike. Brits are so disrespectful of proper nouns.

It's clearly "toob" because it was created and owned by an American company. So go away with your choob!

"...What the hell is "YouShube"?..." --- if you were listening and reading the texts in the video, it's "choob" and NOT "shube". You have very poor reading and listening skills. Go back to school and stop embarrassing yourself.

@@nyebe6598 Well, you talk about "embarrassing yourself" and it seems you're doing a pretty good job yourself: Neither "chube" nor "shube" exist in the English language you claim to know so well, so your self-righteous claims about my "poor reading skills" only display your huge narcissism. Narcissists like you are very prone to assume so much about what others know or don't know, right? Now you claim I'm triggered and offended... Well, did you bite your tongue there, kid?
