Does anyone have any resources for how to properly use or transform emotions for practice?

Develop a steady base of basic breathing meditation ie. annapanna sati, give that a few months/years, then look into Thich Nhat Tahn's techniques for dealing with emotion (treating as a crying child). Later, once you reach a more advanced stage in meditation, you could try things like Tong Len. Those are Not for beginners and I wouldn't personally advise them without a solid daily foundation of mindfulness and very basic meditation practice. Otherwise you could, potentially, distort the practice, which could be bad for you.
