I feel like a lot of issues with artists in our generation stems fom watching speedpaint/speedart videos. It really creates a disconnect from the understanding that creating artwork you can be happy with takes time and vigilance (and they oftentimes put their happiness on the backburner not realizing they're doing it to impress others/wanting to post it so bad rather than really looking at it), in other words peacocking. Sketchbooks are meant for practicing techniques and experimenting. I understand wanting to have something finished to look at, but save some space in those for learning. A lot of artists you watch on KZread and Instagram have been practicing for years and years - it takes a lot of effort unless you're a savant

Composition issue that i see a lot of artists making, DO NOT CROP AT THE JOINTS, why? See the last critique josh gave, when you crop at the shoulders, elbows, ankles you make it look like the segment goes to infinite, zoom out and complete the segment, or zoom in and crop within the segment. So again the last image he showed you either zoom out and show the entire shoulder or zoom in and crop at the traps and have a close up head shot with the neck sitting on the traps ( don’t go and crop at the base of the neck and show only the head on the neck, jesus)

I kinda feel embarassed for posting my Ciri art 😂 The entire time, I did not notice how distorted her face looked and how big her neck is until now. Usually, I see some of my mistakes and start over, but I guess I was too excited to post it that I didn't notice (not trying to make up excuses, I do need to work on my proportions in general) But I'm glad that it showed up, though ^^ Thank you for your feedback! 💕 I've been actually doing some practices for facial proportions a few hours before I saw this video was uploaded :D

From what I've experienced, it's good to post things that might embarrass you later. It's a performance of sorts in front of people, and you learn the most when performing. I had to sing arias in recitals until I was an adult, and every time I was terrified. But the mistakes that embarrassed me were the most memorable.

Sometimes experienced artists can’t fathom why you might not have your proportions down or have a certain technique figured it out... but it’s just because they’ve been drawing for so long that they forgotten what it’s like to be a beginner. So don’t be discouraged by the words of someone who is very experienced. You should be listening to your peers too.

9:05 HAWKS! The drawing that that drawing was referenced from was actually a bit sharper and way better. This one wasn’t terrible though. All of the artists featured have great potential but it’s up to them to see their weaknesses but also not talk themselves down to the point where they give up. It’s like Bakugo said, “if you’re always looking down on others you’ll never see your own weaknesses.” Ya gotta stop comparing yourself to others, and strive to best your flaws. Go beyond.
