The first time I ever heard or seen Chael Sonnen was in WEC. There was a undefeated Brazilian fighter . That was overly hyped up, seemingly invincible. My interpretation is that Chael not only snuffed out his hype but mentally broke him. So perhaps that's one secret to building a star. Snatching another persons clout. Just by whipping there ass.

I think keeping people interested in the athlete when they're not competing is a big part of increasing overall sales when they do eventually compete. In commission sales environments, good salesmen always do follow-up calls with their clients to inquire about how everything went with their purchase, or if there is anything else they need. It's more likely to make the client ask for you when they return, as opposed to another salesman. In sports, athletes who interract with their fanbases on the regular have an easier time promoting their events. The promoter will do their job to ensure people who dont know you learn your name, but you also have to build your own audience.

Basketball absolutely does build stars. The first one they went with was Dr. J in an effort to rehabilitate the league's image after it had become synonymous with recreational drug use. They've just been lucky enough to get it right four times in a row now with Erving, Magic, Jordan, and Lebron, and the guy they went with ended up being the right guy. One of the things they'll do is pick a few guys and lay a bit of a foundation before they do anything overly impressive, so that if they do pick up steam you're not starting from 0. They don't always get it right though. The next "guy" is this kid who currently plays in Minneapolis called Anthony Edwards, and you might not have heard his name yet. He's a star that they're now about to build in front of our eyes if you're curious about how they do it.

This is the UFC's star building formula: promote the shit out of the up and come-ers who are marketable with extensive hyperbole and over-embellsihment of their talent, incessantly inform the audience that they have the "it" factor, build them (usually) slowly but while keeping them very active, test their impact and their following by having them headline a fight night or co-main a pay-per-view, then right at the very moment when fans are at the peak of their interest and excitement... shelf them for at least and year and a half, have them fight as little as possible, and shadowban the public to any information whatsoever regarding the present and future status of that fighter. Works every time!!

Chael you are correct about the numbers. But in a team sport a commisioner has a lot of control over those numbers in the realm of rules adjustment and enforcement aka officiating. Team sports can emphasize offense or popular plays which can produce gaudy but watered down numbers. Also, deciding which teams get prime time TV games and which markets get representstion in the All Star game. There are a lot of ways to build an NBA star's numbers

The B sample results were released today and he was found positive for banned substances both before and after the Haney fight. So not only did he intentionally come in overweight, but he also took banned substances to enhance his performance and achieve an unfair advantage in the fight.

Don't believe in Chael, here's how you make a star: Making a star is a process that occurs naturally in space and involves the gravitational collapse of gas and dust. Here’s a simplified outline of how a star forms: 1. Molecular Cloud Formation Starting Point: Star formation begins in cold, dense regions of space known as molecular clouds or stellar nurseries, primarily composed of hydrogen molecules, along with helium and small amounts of other elements. Conditions: These clouds have to be sufficiently cold (around 10-20 Kelvin) to allow gravity to overcome thermal pressure and initiate collapse. 2. Gravitational Collapse Initial Collapse: A disturbance, such as a nearby supernova explosion or collision with another cloud, can trigger parts of the cloud to collapse under their own gravity. Fragmentation: The collapsing cloud fragments into smaller, denser clumps, each of which can potentially form a star. 3. Protostar Formation Core Heating: As the gas and dust in a fragment collapse, the material falls inward, and the core of the clump heats up due to gravitational energy being converted into thermal energy. Protostar Stage: The object formed at this stage is called a protostar. It is not yet a true star as it hasn’t started nuclear fusion. 4. Accretion Gathering Mass: The protostar continues to accumulate mass from the surrounding material. This phase is characterized by strong winds and jets that can blow away some of the infalling material. Disk Formation: Often, a rotating disk of gas and dust forms around the protostar, feeding material onto it. 5. Ignition of Nuclear Fusion Temperature and Pressure: When the core temperature of the protostar reaches about 10 million Kelvin, hydrogen nuclei begin to fuse into helium nuclei. Energy Production: This nuclear fusion process releases a tremendous amount of energy, counteracting gravitational collapse and stabilizing the star. 6. Main Sequence Star Equilibrium: The new star enters the main sequence phase, where it spends most of its life. The outward pressure from nuclear fusion balances the inward pull of gravity. Characteristics: The star's properties (such as brightness, color, and lifespan) depend on its mass. More massive stars burn hotter and faster, while smaller stars burn cooler and longer. Additional Factors: Mass: The initial mass of the collapsing cloud fragment determines the type of star that will form. Low-Mass Stars: These become red dwarfs, which are cooler and less luminous. Intermediate-Mass Stars: These become stars like our Sun. High-Mass Stars: These become massive stars that live short, bright lives and end in supernovae. Rotation and Magnetic Fields: The initial conditions of rotation and magnetic fields in the molecular cloud can influence the star formation process, including the formation of planetary systems. This natural stellar evolution process occurs over millions of years and results in the diverse range of stars we observe in the universe.
