How Do You Let A Black Fraternity/ Sorority Know You Are Interested In Joining?

Ойын-сауық

Many want to join Black fraternities and sororities but they don’t know exactly how to show their interest correctly.
During our recent WatchTheYard.com East Coast Tour we visited the HBCU campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore and got some advice from the greeks themselves.
Go to WatchTheYard.com for more Black fraternity and sorority related advice!

Show up to as many of they're events as you can. Tell no one but the the NPHC council that you are interested. Don't just come to parties it will make you look bad. And be active on campus as well.

This is a good video but, I must say for the ones that are interested in becoming a part of a BGO just remember the immaturity that you may receive from some of these chapters doses not reflect the whole organization. The members you approach are students just like you and still developing young Men and Women.

Do your research on all, just to see which one is best for you. Then check out the different weeks that each chapter is doing such as community service, fun events, and seminars. The one thing that independent students have to understand is that going to interest meetings are great; however if you see that chapter not living up to their expectations in their organization, then they are irrelevant.

By all means 🗣DO NOT APPROACH A MEMBER AND REVEAL YOUR INTEREST!!!! Only do this if you and the member are GOOD friends and/or family. They will consider this lack of discretion. You show interest by attending and participating in any and all things sponsored/hosted by the org you desire. They will see you. Very important, please start supporting your desired org at least a year prior to seeking membership. We frown upon people that start showing up a month before rush. Also, if you’re active in other orgs/things on campus and in the surrounding community more than likely you will work closely with a member of your desired org. They’ll take notice of your work there as well.

My biggest question is when you want to joined and you mind want to pull one person to the side for a one on one, why do they have to give you so much attitude? Jesus Christ! It's not a person is making a scene, it just there is probably a few things a person might be confused on something and couldn't find it on the web etc. It burns me to see this. I had to pulled one D9 Org to the side (will not reveal who) and literally had to talk some real down home common hardcore sense to then! Mind you, I am not in an org, but God knows I have help them out service projects to know enough that those non Greeks are human too! They were in the exact same shoes as the others. I don't care how hard you serviced, dedicated, cried, fight, hugged, in a org. But at the end of they, God may have blessed you by being in an org, but by golly jeez whiz, he can take it away from you. Be mindful towards others. I can promise you that same person will return it to you 10 times a ! 😉

Are you prepared to spend the rest of your adult life with this one organization? Through the good and the bad? When those who said they would show up, don’t and now we are short handed? Are your grades good if you are in undergrad? Are you failing because the class is hard or because you are lazy? Don’t do it because your family told you to or your roommate is going to. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

I will be attending college very soon. The college that I’m most interested in and trying my hardest to get into is Howard University. I have toured many HBCU’s and I love the energy that is spread, the environments, the attitudes, and relationships between the fraternity members. I have also been mentored by someone who is a part of one. I am extremely interested in joining one, cannot say which, however I do have a question. What if your efforts don’t particularly draw attention to you? They say go to the functions and support them and stuff like that, but what if you continuously go and they still don’t notice you? How do you let them know that you want to join their organization and that you would make their organization better?

I’m sure you’re in an org rn but the best way is to actually introduce yourself while you’re at the program. You don’t gotta say “Hey I’m _ and I’m interested.” But just say, “Hey appreciate you throwing the events around campus it makes it a better experience for me, my name is _” then go from there. Now they see your face and know your name and know you’re interested

Do your research, pick up a book, be able to speak as to why you think you want to join whatever organization you want to join. Volunteer as much as possible. In some form or fashion we are all about service. What is your GPA? Our organizations may so 2.0, but you would not be considered for my chapter of Delta Sigma Theta with anything less than a 3.0. Do not tell ANYONE what organization you think you may want to join, unless perhaps an old head during your research period. Go to every organizations informational, volunteer events and parties. My grandfather a 1937 Omega Man, asked me, "what makes me think I could be a Delta, what makes me think I could be his Soror", when I asked him about his experience, during my research period. That is just to give you an idea of what to expect. Endurance, Alpha Delta, Sp' 95 DST

Discrimination on the basis of race is prohibited by Federal law, state laws and "Greek life" regulations of most colleges. There are many fraternities that are open to people of all races.

I bet you all have a Bible. The word Bible in the Greek means "book". I bet you all have a Bible, and that Bible has a full drawn-out history on the secret principles and practices as to why people should join. The whole thing is BS, and you know it. that's why the only that you all give Forefront it about your practice you beat the same dead horse: "You can't speak on it if you never experienced it". Some of you joined for different reasons. No matter why you joined it, it is still a cult, nonetheless. I'm not encouraging you all to dropout; I am just saying stop dressing it up to make it sound like something other than what it is.

Fraternities are not racialized, and the premise of this video are that fraternities are racially segregated. I hope that all undergraduates will select their fraternity or sorority without regard to race. Be open minded. College is an opportunity for personal growth, and people should be open to new experiences, including joining fraternities with a diverse membrship. In general, on most campuses, the fraternities with diverse membership have more resources and a better track record on post-graduation evaluation surveys than do fraternities that segregate by race.
