    Understand this, he who confesses his sin will be forgiven, and he who doesnt is still walking the the darkness. For to shed light on sexual sin, greed, apathy and ungodliness is to be humbled in the truth of our disgrace and Jesus himself will lift us up on the day of redemption

    Christians do not have to confess our sins to be forgiven. The confessing of sins is what one does when hearing the Word, believes and turns toward Christ to be saved. One is admitting one is a lost sinner.. in need of Salvation. That is confessing ones sins. Also---- a born-again saved Christ cannot walk in darkness. It is a positional impossibility. Because he or she has Jesus.. and Jesus is light. The saved walk in the light. The lost walk in darkness. Both by default.

    I had picture walking in light as if everyone could see not only my actions but the movements of my heart, so that in my fellowship with others I really do try to have the purest and most loving disposition towards them. It is such a blessing! And in fact, God, who is light and can always see through us, really knows how are we feeling and thinking about others. When we fail in our love and purity we should confess it so we get cleansed and may continue to love and be kind with a clean conscience. This exposition from John Piper has helped me to deepen and expand my understanding and realize I was not that far off. Let’s continue to love one and other with all humility and enjoy the fellowship we have with God together! There is no higher or more joyful experience than that.

    Boy howdy, lately I've run across some folks who really seem to think that after believing on Jesus to save us from our sins that if we ever commit a sin from that point onward in this life then we really never knew Him. How on earth can they think that they, even as believers in Christ, never, ever commit a sin willingly or unwillingly?

    19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.[a]” John 3:19-21 It’s sad when we hear people ask how they can live in the light and sin, instead of saying how can we live in the light and not sin?

    Sin is always the issue. BUT when we confess our sin he is faithful and just to forgive us. We can be sinless! Verse 10 refers to past sin or confessed sin. As you said, if we have sin we can't enter the kingdom of heaven after the great white throne of judgement. Jesus told many people while he was here on earth to "go and sin no more" so obviously its possible to sin no more. Remember what sin is, the transgression of the law. If we focus on following God's law we can become sinless having to ask for forgiveness less and less.

    Did you watch the video? Go back and watch the part that starts at 6:20. When we walk in the light, the light exposes our sin so that we can confess it and be cleansed and forgiven. If we think we are in a state of sinning no more, then we are not allowing the light to expose our ongoing sin.

  • @yestothetruth

    @yestothetruth

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@sarco64 The error is when you assume that sinninng can't possibly stop. So, walking with Jesus is like coming under a sin management program, rather than coming to walk in freedom from sin (that's the truth of the Gospel). The same John wrote: 1 John 3:6 Whoever remains in him does not sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him, neither known him. 1 John 3:9, 1 John 5:18 speak of the same reality of freedom from sin (John 8:34-36, Romans 6:16-18).

  • @yestothetruth

    @yestothetruth

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hello @@earlethecanadian5470! I am glad you inquired. I believe the reason that allows one to make a reading of 1 John 1 and force on it the interpretation that sin must be happening in the light is because the reality of freedom from sin isn't known. John 8:34-36 34 Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 A slave does not live in the house forever. A son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." That's the essence of salvation. The salvation Jesus brought to the world is salvation/freedom from sin. Let's back up a bit to see how Jesus says that freedom comes: John 8:31-32 31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” This is echoed here: Romans 6:18 Being made free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. So, there is a release from bondage to sin that happens when someone gets "saved." The apostle Paul was sent to preach the Good News to the Gentiles to "open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me [Jesus]" (Acts 26:18). That's what happens when people get saved. No gray areas there. The experience of this freedom from sin working through the power of Satan in people's lives allows to keep darkness and sin together in one's mind and light and righteousness together as well. That's one hurdle that I see in really understanding what is said in 1 John 1. The 1 John 1:8-10 passage is not suggesting that there is a cycle of [ sin / confession of sin / cleansing from sin / sin (again) ] that perpetually goes on. That would negate other parts of this letter by the same apostle John (e.g. 1 John 3:6, 1 John 3:9, 1 John 5:18). See the recommendation below "Problem in the Church: 1 John 1:8." Confession of sin to God implies forsaking that sin as well (Proverbs 28:13), not merely admitting to God, "OK, I have sinned (again)," with an understanding that I will (most likely) keep on committing that sin until some magic happen while God's word is cast aside to begin with. That mindset also turns the grace of God on it's head because it is power to live for God and not follow the path of sin that leads to death (cf. Titus 2:11-14; Romans 6:1-2, 12-15). So, the way of salvation is through repentance and faith in Jesus: Acts 20:20-21 20 [You know] how I did not hold back from declaring to you anything that was profitable, teaching you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. These two things are relentlessly attacked so as to keep people in their sins and calling that walking in the light. That "light" is darkness. Matthew 6:22-23 22 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness. This is the foundation that every Christian (disciple/follower of Jesus) should be standing on, as far as one's identity in Christ is concerned: 2 Timothy 2:19 However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness." Departing from unrighteousness/sin/darkness is what repentance is about. But that is skipped in favor of things like "accepting Jesus" to be saved while rejecting his words and twisting both repentance and faith in the process. Such deceptions are happening. That's the only way to make you understand what you are trying to understand. You are both logical and correct in asking your questions. Something doesn't add up in what is being said. Also, keep in mind that forgiveness of sins and being cleansed of all unrighteousness and being a new creation in Christ with old things having passed away and all things having become new (2 Corinthians 5:17) are all practical things, not things to just embrace in one's mind as being true (while the reality of ongoing sin coexists in parallel as a contradiction). You have to stand against all deception and embrace the truth wholeheartedly and stand firm on it. I will help you in any way I can. No, true fellowship is where Jesus is living in 2 or more people. They are all born again and led by the Holy Spirit, so they are not walking in sin/darkness but in the light. That's the true fellowship 1 John 1:5-7 is talking about. They don't have to be physically gathered in a place to have that fellowship. It's spiritual. It's like being family.

    Hi Earle. I am reading John for the first time and came across the same thoughts and questions that you have. I think that whether we walk in the light or the darkness we still sin. But I believe that when we walk in the light compared to walking in darkness, our sins are forgiven as long as we acknowledge them and we repent. Although we are sinners and always will be I think that our FREEDOM as believers comes from the sacrifice of Jesus and God’s unending forgiveness. What are your thoughts?

But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. 7 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. 1 John 3

    Simply put----- born-again believers walk in the light, by default. Those of whom are lost, non-believers walk in darkness.. by default. The lost cannot have fellowship with God. As they are not in a relationship with God. The saved are in a relationship with God.. and are able to have fellowship with God. Albeit Salvation (Relationship) with God does not hinge upon having fellowship with God. Salvation is a guarantee. Fellowship is not. And Discipleship is not. Born-again believers do not have to confess sins to be forgiven. That is all part of when one first comes to Christ in so to be saved.. after hearing the Word and given the faith to believe. Confessing of sins to be forgiven is part of the repentance process. Biblical repentance is "having a change of mind".. about God, ourselves and sin. Confessing of sins is about admitting we are lost hell-deserving sinners whom have sinned against God.. and in need of Salvation and forgiveness of all sins and unrighteousness. All sins past, present and future sins. ALL SINS. We turn toward Christ.. and He makes the necessary changes in so to make us fit for Heaven. He imputes His righteousness unto the believer. As we must have the righteousness of Jesus Christ to enter Heaven. The only way is via imputation. As no one can ever be righteous enough for Heaven without the imputed righteousness of Christ. He makes other pertinent changes in the believer.. then, seals the believer for the day of redemption. Old things are gone and all things have become new. (Old creature-New Creature) We God, the Father looks at the born-again believer.. He sees the sinless perfection righteousness of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is a veil covering the believer. God, the Father looks thru that veil--- which, is Jesus.. when looking at the believer. (Thank you, Jesus!!) God Bless.
