GREAT video ! I have been all over you tube looking for an install for my 400... not the 1000, and there is nothing! The 400 is a much different install than the 1000, as the faceplate is not flat and so a hole MUST be cut prior to install ... which makes me nervous as a 'virgin pond DIY pond owner'! This is by far the smartest way to install the skimmer IMO! Thank you for the details and the great video! NOW... I think I know what I am doing!! Thanks to you!!

Does the filter pad come with it

I don't have a line Lazer can u be more percific about how you use a level and string line.

my liner is 20 years old but does not seem brittle at all. should I risk it or leave it alone and continue to use a vacuum?

If it feels malleable and not rigid, you would probably be ok 👌

how in the world do we install this if the pond has water and a new liner? do we drain it down so water cannot escape into hole where digging or is there a way to keep the liner held up with water while digging behind it?

Setting a skimmer (water level) with a string line... Basically the skimmer is setting the water level.. The water won't go higher that the skimmer correct.. So if I wanted to use a string line I could physically see where the water will be in relationship to the entire pond.. Also higher the skimmer deeper the pond per se

Correct. You want the water level to be 3 or 4” lower than the surrounding grade. You set the water level by the height of the overflow inside the skimmer

So does the pump in the skimmer send the water back up to the waterfall?

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to install one of these to help with the water flow in my pond, my main concern is if the water level drops. I live in a hot climate (Thailand) and the water evaporates quite quickly. How would you suggest I overcome this concern?

My pump doesn't have that black tube. Can i just install my flexible PVC pipe straight into the pump or will i end with some issues?

Guys....don't use fake rocks. Just...don't. It always looks like trash. You'd be better off just putting a wooden lid over the top
