    Ive always had a 318 and they last forever. Did 750,000 ks with my first one before I built a hot 360. Sold that 318 to a bloke who put it straight into a truck. He said its a beast . Needed valve stem seals and thats all.

    I’m loving the budget 318 build. In my opinion, throw the machined crank into the 318, give it a hone (even a dingle berry hone) a set of rings, full set of bearings and when you are finished playing with the heads, get a professional valve job done. A quality valve job is money well spent. 👍

    It is not a can of worms,Choose a target to aim for .Build a stout short block and work from there.The build will be limited a dyno run would be great and comparison before after results.Fair dinkum results to be shown

    I’m running a comp 268H cam in my 318 in my CM. the valve train was a bit rattly at first as I really needed longer pushrods but after seeking advice I ended up running 80 thou lash caps! Runs great with no rattling at all now. Also running an Edelbrock carby,I had it tuned professionally and it runs mint. I’ve never felt the need to tamper with it since 2019 when it was tuned,they just work great. Bloody good engines.

    Cam grinders can put a mild performance grind on the original cam? pushrods should be good if you use standard rockers, just saying.

  • @TheIronEmpire

    @TheIronEmpire

    Yeah but would still need springs, lifters etc… and not necessarily. Depends on the cam base circle and what’s been machined, ie milling the heads… not opposed too it, just unsure I wanna go that route yet

    No need to hone the bores if you are not replacing the rings. Just creating issues for yourself there. I would be inclined to throw a set of rings at it though. At least that way you know you have refreshed the short block. Other thing I'd be looking at doing is a set of valve stem seals. Keep the cost down but make it a good runner and leave it at that. P. S. I am a fan of the Edelbrock /Carter AFB carb

  • @TheIronEmpire

    @TheIronEmpire

    7 ай бұрын

    Yeah, sorry I wasn’t overly clear. I’ll either leave the pistons and rings as or, if I go done the re-ring path I’ll hone it. I’m still undecided

    @pottypete5593 yes mate , the early ones did. Doesn't really matter , those engines have huge journals especially the 360s. Just built a 327 , the journals are tiny compared to a mopar. Very impressive little engine, screams .
