Kuching city is less crowded of compared to KL. I love Kuching..people there are very friendly and welcoming

When I first time went to Kuching from Johor Bahru, I feel that city is very quiet and peaceful even city population..very clean city, delicious food and people very friendly compared West Malaysia side. I love Sarawak and their Borneo culture especially Kuching and definitely I'll visit Sarawak more to explore more beautiful places ❤❤❤❤❤

I first watched your channel when both of u were stranded here during the Covid lockdown. A few years later, here u are in my hometown and speaking Malay! TQ for dropping by and do make a return visit.

Welcome to my home town. There are many different ethnics here in Sarawak. The largest group is IBAN ( Sea Dayak), Bidayuh ( Land Dayak), Melanau, Kayan/ Kenyah, Orang Ulu n many more. Mostly mix marriages here. You should explore the IBAN longhouses too n many traditional Malay houses across the Sarawak river....

You see, Malays in West Malaysia have Bumiputera status, AND the different ethnics in Sabah and Sarawak also have Bumiputera status as well, even though there’s mix marriage.

Actually Kuching is not Chinese dominated. The ethnic composition is very balanced. Some areas or districts will have a certain race is the "dominant" race. Btw, unlike the states in West Malaysia, we don't have an official religion in Sarawak. English is a "co-official" language. Many public signages use English.

If you haven't already, you should visit the new Sarawak national museum in Kuching. One of the main features is the history of James Brooke.

A Kuching native here. Great having stumbled on your videos especially after realizing you are both vegetarian like I have been for 24 years. I had my breakfast watching your Kuching and Sibu youtubes. I work in Sibu and come back to Kuching every weekend. I am Indian Malaysian, my dad was a WW2 soldier for the Royal Air Force of Britain fighting in the Burma Front and was later transferred here. As for vegetarian food shops, I go to Baby Fu vegetarian shop and Happy Family in Sibu. In Kuching you can go to Health Food for cheap and healthy food and for a little classy food, try Big Veggie.

Sir James Brooke was the first Raja of sarawak..he was a British soldier who sail on his boat the Royalist..he came to sarawak on the invitation of the sultan Brunei to fight off pirate and as a thankful gift he gave him sarawak and James Brooke declared himself as the raja but Borneo was land of head hunter..the native were head hunters, cutting their opponents head of others tribe for land and boundaries ..James Brooke stop head hunters ask the native to make peace, he made law and land boundaries ..the native love him but after his dead his nephew Charles Brooke succeed him as the 2nd Raja when Charles died his nephew Vyner Brooke become the 3rd Raja and when the British came they took over sarawak from Vyner Brooke..The local were not happy with the British because they love the Brooke's rule and they murdered Sir Duncan Stewart a British governor of sarawak and the British banish all the Brooke family from sarawak and return to England and they were banned from entering sarawak for a few decades during the british colonial..the British were scare because they local still want the Brooke family back..

If you walk along that riverside waterfront, you can see metal plate on the floor a sneak peak writing of Sarawak's history.

Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia where Christians are the majority..This means, Sarawak is more peaceful, more harmonious when compared to other states 👍

Hi guys. Welcome to my hometown. Guys the area you went is a Chinese area, padungan. You want to see more malay go to satok. Also metrocity at matang. But you want to see more native people, you may go to sri aman or bintulu. We have lots of nice food especially sarawak laksa and kolok mee. We also have belacan bee hoon. However it's made from prawns. Once again welcome to the land of hornbill. Sarawak culture village is a place to visit. Use travel agency to do your trip also go to bengoh dam.

Don't anyhow forget to try to meet a popular Dutch KZreadr based in Kuching @GlobalGibbon . I bumped him very first time at Chinatown area when i was travelling to Kuching very first time... I'm one of his subscribers and we took selfie together...great memories of 2022❤❤❤❤❤❤

There is a theater play about Rajah Brooke in Kuching and it's live on the net, the character Rajah is played by Nick from the Globbal Gibon, a Dutch married to a local Sarawakian lady and been living in Kuching for 10 years. If I'm not mistaken, the play is today.

I’ll write this in more detail for you

There are some amazing places to visit in Sarawak, so hope you get to see some of them, Seeing the Orangutans at Semengoh is a privilage, also an overnight at one of the National parks, for wildlife Bako is great specially if you get to see the Probocis monkies. There are some lovely small towns and villages. I particularly like Lundu, there are some nearby beach resorts to stay in or again there is Gunung Gading NP where it is possible to see the Giant Rafflesia flower. There is also Sematan with various beach resorts at fair prices and you can now go to a small, very small kampung called Telok Melano, a place previously only accessable by boat, it is also mile 0 of the Pan Borneo highway A good vegi option for in Kuching is Zhun San Yen Vegetarian. Opens and closes quite early though.

i think for people not familiar w sarawakian faces, many dont realise that a lot of ethnic sarawakians look "chinese" i think it didnt help that u were around padungan where a lot of chinese businesses were set up

Welcome to Kuching, glad to watch you enjoying the City of Hornbills. Most of people here understand simple English, it is our's 2nd dialect. Mung beans or 'Lek Tau Sua' is my old time favourite school time snacks (not too sweet, just nice taste), always mix in long bread that cut into small pieces, just like you did in this video. It's nice to know that you did some homework before touring the Kuching town, you're professional travellers.

Sarawak has more local ethnics tribes..28 ethnicities. The biggest ethnic groups are the Dayaks consisting of the Land Dayaks@Bidayuhs and the Sea Dayaks@Ibans. Please visit the Sarawak Culture Museum, the biggest in Malaysia and the 2nd biggest in SEA.

Along the Caperter Street... you might come across a shop selling Wood Craft Furniture own by a guy known as Gibbon (a Dutch if not mistaken...he married to a local Iban). Recently he also recorded own song "Anang Malu".

There are 4 vegetarian cafes, all are in the same row of shops opposite Timberland Private hospital across the road. Another one at Padungan street, near the big white cat and the name of the cafe is the Big Veggie. By the way, my friend saw you at the Indah cafe and Homestay last Thursday.

History wise Sarawak has no relation to Peninsular or Sabah. It was ruled by a White Rajah Dynasty for quite some time before WW2

I have never seen anyone eat kek lapis like that haha… usually we slice them in small slices… also you are kind of right in the cities usually there are more chinese people… bumis and malays more in the suburbs or countryside… in kuching across the river is a majority malay

You should come to Bau City (Bau= smelly, named after this word due to the rotting fleshes during war back then). This city is 20min drives from Kuching. Dense with Land Dayak (Bidayuh) people, chinese & malay. You may contact me to tour you around if you wish to visit in the future. ✌️

The captions "Different to Malaysia" on your thumbnail is misleading. Kuching, Sarawak is still part of Malaysia. I think you mean West Malaysia or Peninsular Malaysia.

When you say you didn't see many Bumis could it be that you've mistaken the etnic Bumis for Chinese? Bcoz I've been living in KL for 20 yrs & until now, some ppl here still think I'm Chinese. A lot of Sarawakian are multilingual, so many Bumi can actually speaks Mandarin or Hokkien. Most business are monopolized by Chinese. There's an unspoken issue there but nobody really talks about it.

What is your opinion about lunching safe place. Good food an lots of tourist. Can I get your opinion.

In Sarawak, you can’t really tell the ethnicity of someone because most of us are mixed. It gets really confusing for us ourselves 😅

Sarawak demography is very different from other states. The main people here are dayak ( which is an umbrella term for iban, bidayuh, kenyah and countless others), next are chinese and then malay. You are in kuching south which is predominantly chinese . North kuching on the other hands are majority malay. Kuching also has minority indian mostly in the south. Nowadays, while north kuching is still predominantly suburb muslim housing, southern kuching has become more diverse from all races. Btw, north kuching is the other side of the river until up to santubong area.

North kuching houses most of the government building (DUN for example which is the iconic building you see on the waterfront). Kuching is only walkable around the waterfront area. It is a very car dependent city. In 2025 however, ART system (which is like LRT) will start its operation connecting the city urban areas. Hope you guys are having a nice time in kuching!
