Let’s be blunt, what a dubious episode! Those guys were living the high life, and were super dope! I’m surprised they were able to stay high drated out there. It must have been a joint decision to cross that wash out by those 2 best buds. I thought that bus was for sure gonna get drug out, but it just kept rollin.

Those two dudes in the bus are living life to the fullest. We often forget just how short our life really is, and have been conditioned to believe we're free to do what we want when your old and your body is shutting down. As someone who owns an old ambulance, I can tell you those old trucks will surprise you wheeling. The big problem with that bus and the washes was its departure angle was just shallow enough to get it hung on the back. If the axle were closer to the rear (like my ambulance) it would have had no issue at all. Fun fun. All it needed was a gentle nudge to get it off the frame and it was ready to go again, both times. Love those big dually boxes. Makes me think I should get busy and fix mine now. :)
As a rock and mineral enthusiast myself, it was really special that he gave you those stones. Very rarely do i give part of my collection away. It's just that people have different ways of saying thank you.

Many years ago, on the gravel road from Alma, Colorado to the Kite Lake trailhead, we helped a lady with a flat tire. You can convert those old E350/450s to 4x4 if you want. They put ford 1 ton truck axles on them, lift them about 6 inches and 35-36 inch tires. Definitely people with schooly sometimes go where they should not. Our new neighbor that's moving in from Florida came up to look at her property which is on a Road call Buffalo Wells Road 100 years old desert road that's never been maintained she missed her Mark and climbed a ridge that is 90° climb to the top she made it up there we're still trying to figure how she did cuz even did even our Off-Road Jeeps slide on those rocks going up. Luckily there was a side road that I brought her down through a friend's property. And you were talking about Gravel Road. We live in a Township called Christmas Valley there's only two paved roads in the whole town and including the highway make it three. They are all dirt and our population is 1600. It's interesting in the rainy season and snowy season. That was an awesome job though getting at school out came out a lot easier and then it looked. Keep up the awesome videos.
"it looks like we don't have to be careful" that's fantastic 😂 I love this -- and i love their bus. That has to be a fun way to get around/avoid hotels - and cheaper than a 200k sprinter conversion But some lifts/better tires wouldn't go a miss. Tbf, I'd bet they learned the lesson from multiple days digging their way out.

The bus dudes were pretty cool, nice and laid back. They were also overtly humble and thankful that your crew saved them after 3 days of being stuck out in that desert. I also like that he gave you all some mineral samples. Most people might just call them rocks, and they are definitely that, but being a geology nerd I can appreciate the quartz and pyrite cubes for what they are, and I think they're cool gifts. Oh, and I doubt that Skeeter fella woulda had a lot of luck jumping on tat train, as hobos learned along ago that they have to wait for the trains to slow down before they have even a chance of hopping on them. So hobos typically hang out just outside of train yards to get on or off them when they slow down drastically approaching or leaving the yards, or when they hit a sharp curve or uphill climb. Trying to jump on or off of a massive chunk of metal that has millions of pounds of force behind it, going anything over 5 miles an hour, is probably not gonna be fun for anyone involved.

Love the pumpkin hiding the contraband 🤣 might have had a bit of influence on how they ended up stuck in the desert in a bus. We rockhound all over the place in that desert, certainly are some interesting characters we’ve met out there.

Hey Matt, I really enjoy all the stories you share with us. I bet you must have a million more to share, keep'em coming!! 👏
"It looks like we don't have to be careful." 😁
I came across your channel several years ago when you had less than 10,000 subscribers. I was looking for videos about the National Parks there. As I am now in my 60's, I was looking for some new adventures . . . and your videos have shown me places I hope to see. Today, as you talked about gravel roads, it is interesting how there are so many different experiences across our great country. I have been riding motorcycles on gravel roads in Mississippi for more than 50 years. Also, I have seen other videos that say they are "adventure riding" and it may be down a gravel road or up a small wash, etc., etc. . . . I turned to my wife and said, "I have been adventure riding and didn't even know it." Thanks for sharing your videos. As always, you have a great crew and it is awesome to see folks enjoy their work.
That’s pretty cool… you can tell those are some good guys, good souls just on an adventure.
I'm impressed with that bus driver all that work all them sticks and everything impressive
Giving you those crystals was a gift from the heart. He was truly thankful for yours service
This was a good episode, I hope those guys journey remains as epic as it seems it's been.
Lizzie has such a beautiful personality definitely a keeper on your show
You can’t deny one thing. Those guys were committed to making it solo. Two days to cross the big wash. Tried for three days to clear the second one. Legends.

As a heavy stoner myself i can say with almost 100% certainty that they just didnt think of calling a tow truck till the 4th day or whatever it was.
Started watching this vid without having seen the thumbnail, so when Matt was talking about who in their right mind would drive a bus on that tiny trail, then I saw the bus... I immediately hoped the folks that owned it where some amalgamation of Cheech and Chong... and reality did not disappoint! I'm so happy characters and people like this still exist, and are just out doing their thing, making life interesting for the rest of us for sure. 👍 Also Matt staring at that quartz like his OS stopped working for a moment is how I imagine old explorers and traders reacted to the random stuff people would barter for goods and services back in the day.
What a great video love you guys! & that “pumpkin” was definitely a joint or blunt 😂

This whole episode is so funny! The places some people will take a vehicle and the reasons they do so is often just hilarious! This was an episode where the Big Banana off road wrecker could have been very useful, but the Morvair did it's job as usual! Thanks for another excellent video!

I think my number one word for this episode is wholesome. Enjoyed every minute of it with a smile on my face. I love how you find really good but really unwise drivers - like the dude that got his school bus up the mountain.
I have been on this earth for a little over 30 years and I have never seen a dirt road, in Ohio with weather changing, snow etc, dirt roads don’t work, we do have roads that turn into creeks, and the creek is the road for a bit till it turns back into a cut gravel road but no dirt. I also have never seen a desert, I was probably 15 years old before my dad took me to Michigan, I thought it was kinda crazy that you could see flat ground for more than a mile and people can use high powered rifles to hunt deer with 200-400yd shots, where I hunt, you are lucky to get 100yd shot, most of the time it’s only 40-50yds before a hill starts or the woods get too thick to shoot though. Part of the reason I get kinda hooked to Matt’s videos is, desert and rock crawling is foreign to me. I’m no stranger to sand, we have tons of sand in Ohio, most of our hills and creek beds are sand stone, but never experienced the smooth wind eroded dusty sand you guys deal with, I’d deff be one of those folks getting stuck because idk how to read that sand, I know how to read heavily wooded hills and valleys, leaf covered mud etc but not dusty sand. One thing on my bucket list is to ride quads on dunes, that would be pretty wild, I saw some tiny dunes in Florida, I thought those were pretty neat.
The best thing about gravel roads is that they lead you to the best places

I was born in the 50s and Mom and Dad experimented with the hippy lifestyle in the late 60s. My childhood was full of experiences with people like this. It made me smile when they traded the crystals for your services. You were good sports with the didgeridoo and I loved hearing about your optimism with chicks digging Tubas, lol. Best show in a while. I even had my wife watch excerpts. Thank for everything you do.
Boldly going where no gypsy has gone before. Loved this one as usual, Matt and team.
No humming required. Just takes a little pop of air to initiate the drone sound on a didgeridoo! Cool recovery video!
“So it looks like we don’t have to be careful” 😂 A guy named forest in the middle of nowhere in a school bus smoking a “pumpkin” doesn’t surprise me 😂🤣
Thanks for taking Max, Lady, and Peanut, it's always nice to see the doggies having fun. I love the fact that Ed feeds them. You and your crew made what seemed like an impossible recovery look relatively easy.
I can't believe that they got that bus in that far. They were determined. Great Job good to see Lizzy back and enjoying herself.
Matt's enthusiasm in this rescue is overwhelming-
Respect to the driver for getting that Ford bus all the way out there. Respect to Ford for making a great vehicle.
I grew up in Louisiana in the 1970s and we had shell roads instead of dirt or gravel roads. The roads were literally made of bazillions of little, bleached clam shells.

Funny you brought up gravel and dirt roads. Growing in Detroit in the 60's we did have DIRT roads in some of the farther flung areas of Detroit proper. When you'd go out to Farmington or Livonia gravel roads, major roads, were still there.....only 15 miles from Detroit. Today? All paved over just like the song goes: "They paved paradise to put up a parking lot". A little sad, but, MUCH faster......
Was Matt just now left speechless when the beautiful flower child from the 60s esplained the flat tire..?
I want a lot more backstory on those two dude...
You should have them busboys on more often they seem to be a fun time
