My Grandpa told me something years ago that i think applies to this video, and to the difference between Matt and alot of the people he rescues. A lot of people give up and say they are stuck when they can't go the direction they want to. In reality you are not stuck until you cant go anywhere. If you work with where you can go, you may find a different way to get to what you want to go.

  • @MamaJLW

I think that applies to just about anything in life. If you work with your abilities and opportunities, you’ll find a way to accomplish what needs to be done or learn what you need to learn or change what you need to change or….. well, you get the idea.

That first debacle I kept saying "just winch it!", so I'm glad you finally did 🙂 Then during the second area of trouble I kept saying "what are you doing! Get your passenger wheels further right so at least passenger is not in the rut!". Anywho, glad you guys got out but man, that was certainly a long trip and a lot of work for the Banana! Proves how well you built it that it could take that abuse and keep going without any issues!

A really good high pressure 12v compressor is about $200. Yes, they run hot. Yes, they don't generally last very long. But when you need them, you can't beat them. Just put one scratch that two on every rescue vehicle you have. Replace the ones the die.

That was super gnarly. Almost looked like those videos from Windrock this year. Also, I have a portable Ryobi air compressor that I recommend since you (and also, I) don't have onboard air. Pretty compact, and on my JL, it airs up four 35s from 15 PSI to 30 PSI in about 15 minutes. One extended battery (4 Ah) will do all 4 tires (tho I always bring two, just in case). I will always throw it in the back any time I think I might want to go off road since having one and not needing it is better than needing it and not having it.

Simple upgrade to fix this. Trailworthy fab hero 6x6 case. It has two rear output shafts. Use the second output shaft to add a pto on the back of the tow vehicle with a pillow block bearing or similar kind of like a tractor. Add drive axles to the trailer and add a driveshaft that ends in a pillow block near the hitch, leave enough space for your tractor pto shaft which you will use to connect the trailer driveshaft to the output shaft now mounted on the rear of your vehicle. The twf transfer case has both rear outputs on the same stick. You will have twin stick controls but as long as your trailer has the pto shaft connected the wheels will drive. Make sure you use a pto slip clutch on the shaft, it is standard tractor hardware, the shaft and slip clutch can be purchased off the shelf. You just need to swap the transfer case on the tow rig and add the axles and driveshaft to the trailer. There are also ways to add steering, if you choose to do that I recommend Ram 5500 axles, the fronts are 7k. Additionally, in order to use tandem axles you will need to add a 1:1 drop box to the trailer, for tridem you’ll need two. I would just use a pair of rear axles gears wheels and tires to match the tow rig for optimal performance, but you can use different axles with the same gear ratio and tires, or you can change the ratio and use different size tires. There is a math equation for that, but you’ll have to ask a tractor bro because I don’t know it.

I made my own winch mount to where I can put it in my rear receiver! But that’s not the suggestion I want to share. I ran a .4 ought cable from my battery to front and rear with a quick connection. That will save you from having to carry a spare battery for the trailer winch. You can make a short jumper to the winch from the cable off the bumper to the winch! If your interested I can send you a video or pictures! Happy and safe towing guys!

I need a winch behind your tow hook! In the old days, skidders for scarifing and the scarifier it selves was a werry heavy tow behind style whit is own engine. So to get up hill they needed tobl winch the scarfier up. So the hook was detachable and connected to the big winch. This meant that the operator didn't need to leave the driver's seat and reconnect any wires or so. He just put som tension on the winch so that he could release the catch for the hook. And then he just drove up the hill free spoiling the winch. To stop on the top to winch the scarfier up. It's probably a good solution for your trailer as well. All you need is a self centering tip on the hook a winch and som metal glue and your dune!👌😄
