Only thing missing from this is toji was in full control until he killed the grandmother. Thats when the seance went haywire and his eyes presumably turned black.

I thought Toji recognized that if anyone knew the “Sorcerer Killer” had a son they’d leverage it against him. Toji thought about it and decided on feigning ignorance.

Yes, but the "sale" was conditional on the CT. Megumi hadn't awakened it yet by the point Toji died, so he'd have no knowledge of Megumi having it. And there are several inherited techniques in the clan, so that muddies the water even more.

Do you think Gojo intentionally dressed like Toji in his latest fight? If so, do you think it was to somehow honor Toji or maybe to help snap Megumi out of his situation?

Secondly, it's more or less confirmed that the interaction between soul & body is different depending on the CT interacting with the two. For Kenjaku, the soul will always exist within the body. For Mahito, the body is dependant upon the soul. For the grandmother, the soul and body are completely separate and can be channelled as such. The original comment is right in the aspect that Toji's body IS his soul, since his body eventually regains control and becomes normal (or close to normal) Toji again. Toji will always have a Kenjaku-esq effect where no matter what is being done to his soul, his body will remain in control.

I don’t think Toji’s eyes went black until after he killed Ogami. That’s when he became a “puppet of carnage”.

He recognizes megumi because he stepped into the shadow and lost his footing.

I think Toji killed himself knowing that Gojo did his job right. Toji wanted Gojo to take care of Megumi... and when Megumi told his name as Fushiguro, Toji understood that the Zenins didn't come close to Medumi due to Gojo. And maybe that's why he took himself out knowing that there's someone more capable out there who would take care of Megumi. But the sad thing is that he didn't know that just hours (maybe minutes) ago Gojo was sealed and just at that moment Sukuna (perhaps the biggest threat to Megumi) was released. Spoiler Alert!!! I personally think that the closure between Toji and Megumi is yet to be done and who knows, maybe we might see Toji returning in the battle against MeguKuna!

It was this moment that answers why Toji could take over. Its stated pretty blantently by Kenjaku in that moment. Mahito always thought the Soul came before the Body. But its as Kenjaku stated. The answer is niether. The Soul is the Body and the Body is the Soul. The granny summining Toji's Body, inherently summoned his soul. Its the fact that his heavenly restriction amplifies his body to such a heavy extent that allowed him to just, take over. Toji's heavenly restricted body, is Toji's soul. Edit: In other words. The granny doesn't have any idea what she is talking about. She claims she never summons the soul because of the risk. But she doesn't understand what the soul is to be able to seperate the 2, because they inherently cannot be seperated.

As dark as this was, Toji only had one period in his life when he was truly happy, when he ran away with Megumi's mom. So when he says the words "that makes me happy" it's so beautiful. Megumi would've been fucked up if he had any time to think back on this moment.

MANGA SPOILER BELOW It's tragic irony that Megumi's name means "blessing" and then later on he is taken over by Sukuna and kills his sister and severely wounds Angel (who saw him as a blessing when he and Gojo helped her as a child). As of chapter 251, it appears Megumi sees himself as a curse on his friends when he was supposed to be a blessing for others.

You forgot to mention the Q&A gege said in a manga extra that toji killed himself because of the fact that the seiance ritual was still in effect and still would of taken hold again

This was such an interesting character

When Toji takes over the soul I always saw his actions as a small bit of muscle memory as well since in his last moments of life he was adamant on killing the strongest opponent (gojo) and making sure Megumi was safe things he then did upon resurrection

One thing you missed is that Toji didn't start fighting the strongest around for fun or on instinct. He was following partially the command of the grandma to kill all sorcerers. When his eyes were black he was under the influence of her command that's why he killed himself to not be under her influence and kill his son. If toji was homself and in full control he would've never kill himself. Why would he he just got resurrected. He was under the last command of the granny and he will continue to kill all sorcerers including his son until the grandson's ce depletes which is never so he had but one choice to kill himself before he forcibly kills his son

Nope, his instincts went insane, which is explicitly stated in both the manga and the anime. Toji was never under the grandma's control, he literally snapped out of that the moment she called upon his body. Due to the special circumstances he was resurrected into, he was more like a zombie than an actual person, a zombie with a semblance of intellect. Toji always had a pride that he tried to push away in order to avoid conflicts that didn't do him any good. He showed that pride in his second fight against Gojo, which was what got him killed in the first place. I would say that his berserk state is similar to that, he doesn't have the cognitive functions to stop himself from doing such stuff so he goes around murdering the strongest thing to murder there is. Plus he had no reason to live, so he would've killed himself anyway. His resurrection wasn't a complete one, he had no way of sustaining intelligence in such a body.

Sukuna is defeated by Urame preparing Gojo and Kashimo’s soul to be eaten to power up Sukuna further to keep him from losing to Maki and Yuji, but Yuji interrupts and eats their souls himself. Gojo’s soul has been intentionally weakened so he cannot ever hope to overpower Sukuna’s in his weakened state. Yuji can only get Kashimo and Gojo’s powers until they give Yuji permission to because Yuji refuses to destroy the part of their souls that gives them consciousness because every time Sukuna devours a soul he must engage in a battle between souls that destroys the part that gives people their consciousness but keeps certain parts like their cursed techniques and power. Sukuna destroying that part of the soul that gives people consciousness is more evil than murder because he eliminates people’s ability to go to the afterlife. Being able to do this is unique to Yuji and Sukuna because of Sukuna’s technique and the fact that Yuji was specifically made for being a vessel of souls. All three of the sorcerers are in disarray as they are now all in Yuji’s head, but Yuji maintains full control of his body. While Yuji tries to regain is bearings Maki is being destroyed against Sukuna, and Yuji quickly realizes he needs to reenter the battle. Gojo is reluctant but gives Yuji his powers to fight Sukuna; whereas Kashimo is too proud to give Yuji his powers (he also kind of wants to go back to the afterlife and Yuji dying allows this to happen). Yuji is forced to fight Sukuna again as Maki has been defeated, but he cannot effectively use Infinity because he does not have the Six Eyes. Gojo philosophically debates Kashimo so Kashimo has a reason to give Yuji his powers (the debate happens as Yuji is fighting a losing battle against Sukuna). Kashimo concedes the debate and lends Yuji his powers which enhances Yuji’s physical attributes so much it evens the playing field with Sukuna. All the while Kashimo and Gojo are giving Yuji tips as he battles Sukuna. Although Yuji cant use infinity to its full capacity he can do things like making a small barrier of infinity in front of himself for an instance of time to quickly block attacks; he is fully capable realizing Kashimo’s powers but he must learn how. As Kashimo teaches Yuji to become more acquainted to the different cursed energy the tide of battle starts to turn slightly in Yuji’s favor; however as Sukuna realizes this he attempts to cast his domain expansion in order regain the advantage. Yuji tells Kashimo and Gojo that he has to use Mythic Beast Amber in order to defeat Sukuna, but Gojo talks him out of it. Instead Gojo tells him to attempt to cast his own domain. Yuji successfully cast his own domain which ends up being a strange combination of all three’s personalities (we don’t know what the sure-hit is) the domain clash negates Sukuna’s sure-hit and they proceed to battle inside each other’s domains. Sukuna’s domain which is more refined than Yuji’s starts to win out. However Gojo and Kashimo and take back their powers from Yuji in order to focus on strengthening the Domain as a Domain Expansion is not just a barrier infused with a cursed technique, it is also an inner expression of one’s soul. Sukuna is weakened so much that he’s on an equal playing field with Yuji. As they battle Kashimo and Gojo becomes so exhausted that they can no longer keep up with Sukuna’s domain and Yuji’s domain begins to waver, however Yuji yet again lands a black flash when he needs to and damages Sukuna enough to destroy Sukuna’s domain. Gojo and Kashimo are so exhausted that they can not lend their powers to Yuji again after the domain clash, and Sukuna is weakened to the point where fighting Yuji is an even fight, but this time Sukuna is the one who is on a timer in contrast to how Gojo was on a timer for Sukuna to adapt to Gojo’s infinity, or how Yuta and Yuji were on a timer to defeat Sukuna before his cursed energy returned. This time Sukuna has to defeat Yuji before the power of Gojo and Kashimo returns. The battle has devolved into a complete slog, like a chess game that has been simplified neither side has the resources to create tricks or clever tactics. Yuji fires a piercing blood as Sukuna is about to fire a world cutting clash causing Sukuna to miss. The piercing blood hits two of Sukuna’s eyes. Sukuna who is now partially blinded gets rushed by Yuji with a flurry of punches. Sukuna quickly attempts to counter by grabbing him with two of his free arms while blocking with the other two, but Yuji cuts one of them off with a blade made of his blood. Sukuna grimaces for the first time, and has an existential crisis in his mind. This is the closest Sukuna has been to defeat since Gojo. This hurts his ego more than Gojo because he did not fight Gojo in his Heian form. Sukuna snaps out of it and upper cuts Yuji in the air. Sukuna then grabs Yuji’s leg midair and then starts slamming Yuji into the ground repeatedly. As Sukuna attempts to land the finishing blow Yuji cast a barrier of infinity right on top of Sukuna. Sukuna is completely immobilized, but does not suffer the same effects of infinite void like brain damage. Yuji winds up an electrified punch that sends Sukuna flying. Sukuna is completely defeated after Kashimo and Gojo regain their strength. Before Yuji rips out Sukuna’s soul from Megumi, Sukuna congratulates him.

I think Mahito said once that emotions are just a byproduct of the soul; it could also explain how toji was able to take control over the grandson so easily, because his heavenly restriction might literally involve not having a soul in the first place - hence his total lack of cursed energy. maybe not tho, just something i was thinking about

Megumi thinks his dad gave him a girl's name for no reason, but if you remember, Toji says he doesn't remember guy's names. He was trying to ensure he remembered his son. Unfortunately for him, he's an idiot and forgot his son's name anyways. Between that, his last words, and his suicide in Shibuya, it's pretty clear that Toji really cared for (or at least, wanted to) his son despite it all.

Love your breakdowns and analysis man and it's always a delight to watch them!!! I have 2 thoughts I wish you talk about 1. Can you please do an analysis of who is more talented and has more potential: Megumi or Yuta? 2. I am very skeptical of the ridiculously big power imbalance between the 9 Shikigami of the 10ST and 1 single Mahoraga. So much so that it almost feels like Mahoraga was never a part of it at some point in time and was forced to become a part of it somehow in the ancient times of zenin clan. (*spoilers ahead for non-manga fans* Even sukuna had to fuse them all together to create a match for mahoraga, and EVEN THEN it was crushed easily by gojo)

Yuta's potential is unmatched, and I'm saying that quite literally. The only people who even come close to Yuta in terms of potential are Kenjaku and Mahito, and they need some specific conditions to reach the heights of Yuta's Copy Technique provides.

I believe megumi did know that his father died by gojo’s hand, maybe that’s why he was a bit confused about who toji is considering his father is dead, cuz when gojo met megumi he started talking that he fought his father and but got interupted, and I think throughout the years the sharp mind of megumi realized what happened to his father, if not maybe it was already told by gojo at some certain point.

Megumi doesn't want to know anything about his dad at least from the anime. Maybe different in the manga (i didnt start reading til anime finished) but the 2 or 3 times Gojo attempts or asks if Megumi wants to know, he says he doesnt care.

Do you reckon that if yuji was summoned with seance technique a similar outcome would occur due to him being able to seemingly instinctually suppress sukuna with his body in season 1 and I suppose vice versa, if toji ate a sukuna finger and survived if he could suppress sukuna like yuji can.

I was really impressed that Megumi had forced Toji into a situation where if it were anyone else, his final plan of attack was a guaranteed hit. Even if it cost him his life. Dagon didn’t even scratch him yet Megumi, who is weaker than Toji & Dagon, was about to gut him.

I'm an anime only btw. What are the limits of seance? Could seance be used to bring back a soul and body at the same time? Even if it's just the body, could seance be used to bring a copy of Geto's body as it did for Toji and then the person willingly allows the body to win, thereby Geto essentially coming back?

As long as you have a part of that person, Seance can bring anyone back. The grandma calls upon either the information of the soul or the body, but we don't know if both can be done at the same time. You can bring back Geto's soul, but it would go away as soon as the body he was cast upon is out of cursed energy. There is also the off-chance of Geto's soul getting overwritten by the original soul, in which case it would probably just erase Geto from existence altogether lol

Someone's soul losing to a body was also shown in the example of Geto's body rebelling against Kenjaku when Gojo said for him to snap out of it.Everything leaves it's mark on something if it's coexist for a long time.The question:"Are you Satoru Gojo because you'r the strongest?Or are you the strongest because your Satoru Gojo?" is meaningless becuase both answers are correct but at the same not really.If Satou Gojo's body was born with the different soul it won't be the same Satoru Gojo and Satoru Gojo's soul was born with a different body it will also not be Satoru Gojo we know......

To be honest, toji was the biggest villain of them all, even though he didn't beat gojo in the battle, he for sure beat him in the war..and everyone else, toji created the sequence of events that lead up to where they are now, infact, if megumi hadn't been saved by toji by being thrown out the window, he would've died and sukuna wouldn't have had the opportunity to take megumi's body and beat gojo. his presence literally made the JJK series and its story.

This part of the Shibuya arc made no sense to me when I watched it. I don't know how to feel about it

I have a question. If Toji’s soul was seanced along with his body, would he have just returned from the dead completely, like he was when he was alive? or would he still be running rampant?

Toji was going to sell Megumi cause he knew that would have a better life for him. Toji knew that a Ten Shadows user would be next in line to inherit the head position of the clan, but he also didn’t want Megumi to be a Zenin. That’s why he told the one person who could give Megumi a better life, Gojo, to stop the sale. Ultimately though Toji gave Gojo the choice. I think Gojo really respected Toji and Toji also gain a lot of respect for Gojo. Toji knew the only person strong enough to to stop the Zenin from taking Megumi was Gojo.

So technically, if you wanted to bring him back fully, by summoning both the body and the information, you could, right?

Well that changes a lot for me coz I always kinda thought that toji took himself out because he was happy to his son to his mothers name... So if megami was a zenin would he had still taken himself out or not??

Also I really want to see a moment in the anime where (spoilers) Megumi tells gojo “hey while you were sealed that guy that almost killed you and ruined your best friends life came back for a bit”

I wonder, how is it possible to only summon the body and not the soul, if the body is the soul and the soul the body.

You said it all, but if anybody still needs convincing about why megumi doesn't recognise his dad I have to refer you to s2e5 when gojo meets young megumi for the first time and try to explain to him what happened with his dad , megumi tells gojo he doesn't care about his dad , he is been gone so long that he doesn't even remember what he looked like! So if he forgot how toji looked like when he was 7 , don't expect him to remember now 😂

Didn't Toji arrange for Megumi to be sold to the Zen'in Clan because he thought there Megumi would be raised in a more stable environment than he could provide? At least that's what I understood from his inner monologue during his last flashback talking to the head of the Zen'in about Megumi. He done so in a way to protect Megumi while keeping his foolish "never care about anyone else" ideology.

Theory: remember how bodies have memories within them. So what if the memories from toji's body overpowered the memories of ogami's grandson

Megumi has no idea who he is cause Toni was never present just his life, nor was he apart of the zenin clan. Gojo raised him and probably wouldn’t ever bring him up since he almost killed him. Maki actually has seen Toji (small moment in the manga) but she was very young and only saw him once in passing, also she never knew his name so naobito saying his name wouldnt change anything. She also had no idea he even became strong so she’d have no reason to think this was that one guy she saw once 10 years ago in passing

I thought he went on instinct because he killed the old lady. Since when he first got control he could talk and make decisions before he killed her.

Toji is a sort of dark inversion of the Buddhist teachings. To have no attachment to anything to avoid suffering. In this case, Toji did the bare minimum to live. Kill for money, gamble said money, even sell his son but he was conflicted. Megumi was the first thing Toji couldn't completely break his attachment to.

In my mind the reason Toji goes after the ‘strongest’ sorcerer around was his natural instinct is to fight Gojo who is the strongest sorcerer. Really showing the on sight hate he has for gojo

toji didnt sell megumi just cuz he wanted `money` he did because he would most likely have a cursed technique and he would be treated better in the clan than him, toji though megumi was better off with the zenin clan

i dont think its like whats said in this video at all, my hypotesis is that the grandson had control up until he started stuttering, you can see a change in the eyes from that point on (from them being black to then red then blue), after the stuttering the grandmother says "go down and kill sorcerers" thats kind of like an order shes giving to the soul. toji then killed her with his own will but a little bit after that he started losing control because of the order that was given him (hence his eyes turning completely black since the grandmother also had black eyes) so he just went down and started killing everyone and because he has no cursed energy there was no time limit for the technique, making him an unstoppable killing robot following a simple order.

Wait, wasn't the zenin head Naobito?

I feel like Toji gets a needlessly bad reputation as a family man when the opposite is true. He "left it all behind" for his wife and when she died he didn't just leave Megami. He waited until he showed signs of CE and sold him to the Zeni knowing he'd be better off especially if he had a inherited CT. Then in his final moments he still looks out for Megami by telling Gojo about him. Then while running on PURE INSTINCT once he recognizes Megami he saves him once again from himself.

I honestly believe toji was faking his not not knowing his son, its kinda left up to interpretation. He is a man with tons of self hatred due to abuse he faced, which is why stayed to fight awakened Gojo, he wanted to prove to himself. The dude had rebounded back to all his old ways after his wife died, gambling, and killing for money, filled with hatred and depression. So it made sense why he thought he was in state to rear a child, as he was back to his self destructive nature. So he was trying to distance himself from megumi, even though he wanted to because he believed he would do more harm, and if megumi was a prodigy he would treated much better than Toji was by the Zenin. He finally realises it after destroying himself, that he lost his way, and was filled with regret about his child.

I do find it weird that Toji decided Megumi was the strongest opponent nearby when Jogoat was literally around the corner. I assumed he would be going off just who looked the strongest, but in that case it would make more sense for him to go after someone like Nanami and not some scrawny teen.

A .2 second domain expansion is just that. It’s a domain expansion that lasts .2 of a second, basically going so fast and having less effect
