Just a comment on the Mona Lisa: I was fortunate enough to get to see it in person, but was wholly unimpressed. It wasn't her fault. It was the fact that you can't get within 40 feet of it, as it's constantly surrounded by a massive sea of people who are talking loudly, cameras in the air, and it's behind glass so you can't get a good look at it for all the bright reflections on it. I didn't bother staying long. Other items like the Venus De Milo were a pleasure to see, as I finally got to see the backside of her. That's not meant to sound dirty, as the only pictures you ever see are the front angle. I got video of the full 360 degree view.

The Boston theives weren't stealing things at random. They had a shopping list of stuff they had buyers for. Famous and expensive paintings are a way to get caught. Lesser known ones are still worth hundreds of thousands even millions to the right people. Professional thieves steal to order rather than farting around trying to fence stuff after the fact. Its how it works with shoplifters and it's how it works with professional art thieves.

My theory about the last case, they had buyers for the pieces they took, thats why they aren't necessarily the most expensive (and why they took the time to remove the screws) They haven't surfaced because they are hanging in rich peoples secret rooms. As for the last painting, someone that works at the museum took advantage of the robbery and nabbed it for themselves. The movement in the blue room wasn't recorded because no one entered until the equipment was turned off

To all wannabe art thieves out there: even if you succeed, you'll make only a fraction of the piece's true worth. And no, if it's priceless, you won't make an infinite amount of money despite that a fraction of infinity being infinite.

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
