I was lucky with my entrance exam because of the department I am in. I didn't have to do a written Japanese exam. But some of my friends had to do the whole thing in Japanese.

@@ezeifedihumphrey6025 you should go to MEXT scholarship official website so that you can get all the application forms and other documents if needed. Hurry up the application will be closed on 27 may 2024

I just wanna say thanks a lot for your content, you just earned a new sub! I'm currently an undergrad student of english literature in Indonesia but I 've been doing freelancing in illustration and comic for quite long time. However my japanese is soo bad (probably N6-ish or lower lol) so I can relate a lot to you. I'm planning to study Japanese for a year or so, so I can take MEXT by 2024 - 2025. If I may ask, do you have any advises how to create research proposal that is convincing? And how high your JLPT level when you take your first MEXT?

This is so cool! I’ve been trying to look up people going to Geidai or other japanese art universities with the MEXT research students! I plan to finish my current degree and go with that scholarship! Do you know how the choosing field of study works? I’m confused about it tbh. I wanna study nihonga, but I’m not sure if that’s a valid field of study. Like, u gotta choose the field and your research theme right? I’m just overall confused about that. I also don’t quite understand what being a research student means? Is it like, studying for a masters degree? What does it really entail to be a research student?? I just know I wanna study/research nihonga.

You can try applying for enrolling at a senmon Gakko also if you want to pursue illustration/animation such HAL tokyo/nagoya.

Yes, I did find a supervisor before applying to be a research student. My supervisor changed later on though.

I’ve studied History and Ethnology in university but I started to think about art history and art in general for my master degree.. so you believe I’ve got any chance to be accepted in an art university when my studies are about history and ethnology ? I’ve got plenty of art history lesson in Uni.. what was your studies before applying for this scholarship?

Hello, Efrat! I’ve been following you on IG for a while now, since I’ve learned about MEXT through your video. Thank you for that! May I ask if applying scholarship as a research student through MEXT have an age limit? I’m currently 25, and planning to apply next year, (I’ll be 26 by then) and I have also graduated my undergrad last 2018, and have been working as a designer for the past 5 years. Am I still eligible? I would really appreciate your answer!

Hello! You have plenty of time. The age limit for the MEXT scholarship is 35 (by the time of application). Go for it!

Hello, I want to enter an undergraduate program in geidai but I saw some universities said that the level of Japanese must be N2 or above, So I am worried if the MEXT would accept me with a lower level, what was more or less your level of Japanese when you applied for the scholarship? Thank you.

If you secure the mext scholarship, they’ll send you to Japan and put you through an intensive Japanese language course in which you’ll have to fit the N2 criteria. If you don’t secure the language criteria, the scholarship gets eliminated. But if you do pass the language, you’ll have to enter the entrance exam of the university you desire. But if you don’t get accepted in the university then the scholarship will be eliminated.

Mext will accept you cause it doesn't require the Japanese proficiency certificate but the University might not accept you

Really helpful advice. How long did you have to wait in between and did you have to give an art portfolio to the universities?

A few months of waiting between each step. And yes you need to submit a portfolio for each university you apply

@@saitama_1675 If you apply to be a research MEXT student (like I did) you need to have an undergraduate degree from somewhere (doesn't matter where). But there are also MEXT options for Undergrad Studies.

What I worry about is the Japanese aspect. I'm worried it might not be up to standard and I don't understand it too much. I'm worried during class time writing and speaking might be difficult.
