I’m also in the car business and people misrepresent their vehicles on a regular basis to inflate the value of their trade when working a deal over the phone. When they arrive, of course their first go-to is that the dealer lied and misled them because all dealers are slimy and deceptive. This guy used that exact approach and unfortunately it worked.

The problem with "appeasing" a customer like this is you incentivize them to do it in the future to someone else. He's probably pulled stunts like this his whole life, and he's used to people giving away concessions. And the worst part is he's probably patting himself on the back all the way home, thinking what a shrewd "negotiator" he is. At least you have this schmuck outed on KZread for the whole world to see.

I dunno. To me, it doesn't sound at all likely that he intentionally gave the wrong reference number and then intentionally followed up with a "confusing" photo, in hopes that he'd get a higher quote for a fluted. I see how Adrian could've mistaken it for a fluted if he just glanced at it (based on the reflections), but no watch expert or even a mere enthusiast looking at the photo for longer than 2 seconds would actually mistake that photo for a fluted - it's clearly a domed bezel and the photo is pretty damn up close and clear. It sounds like mistakes were definitely made on both ends but I think Adrian ultimately did the right thing here.

This dude had it all planned out. No shot this was a mistake, it was all premeditated and he didnt even make a good job hiding it. He was pressing a lot which doesnt matter to someone like Adrian, but quiet a few new employees would break under the pressure and would atleast award him about 1k just to get out of the situation. He knew what he was doing.

I mean, maybe take a look at the picture of the watch before you make an offer??? If you look at that picture for longer than 10 seconds you can tell it's not fluted at all. It's not like it was hidden in any way.

  • @sfqm1083

@@OQO00 any cursory glance of the watch, with the premeditated info that it was a flute bezel, would look like it was a flute bezel watch. Customer gave FALSE INFO, and only one candid photo of the watch in poor conditions. Are you telling me that tentative offers made virtually can’t be changed after physical inspection? Especially when the customer gave false info? You must be insane. Besides, try looking at hundreds of watches a day for your job and tell me that you would spend more than 2secs on a shit photo of a low tier Rolex.

I think a lot of people could make that mistake about the one digit mixup in the model #. Glad this worked out but could also be a good opportunity to add another gate into quote process. Maybe something even simple with a picture of the watch and details. (Bezel, dial colour, bracelet, etc.). I don’t know how your system works though and this might already be covered in a confirmation step. Great content again!

This is very interesting and reminds me of a legal dispute my client had on a commercial property deal. The legal pack referred to a set of drawings and a set of drawings were attached . The drawings had been amended with a building made of expensive bricks, but the drawing reference was for a previous set of drawings for walls with a cheap block render. Somebody forgot to check that the drawings attached to the agreement matched the drawing reference. The lawyers agreed that the drawings attached to the legal agreement should be accepted.
