That's not unique to KZread -- being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff makes all the difference when it comes to serious breakout success. And one can't bank on that; for many very talented and hard-working people that one-in-a-million success never comes. That makes it a bad goal in and of itself, because not everyone can do it no matter how hard they work; very few people make it. But more general success, becoming very good at something, making a living off it, enjoying one's work, that's not so random -- pick something you love, and work on getting good at it. Note how much effort Mumbo put into learning about the pursuits he undertook. He watched others do it over and over, he studied how they did it, he practiced a lot, he put his heart and soul into it, and worked at it for years. The love provided the motivation for the grindy bits (there are always grindy bits). So even if you don't get rich and famous, your life will be fulfilling. Not bad, when you think about it.

Yes and no. The real answer to the question is "by just doing shit until he got good at it". I'd be willing to bet that if he'd just got bored and dropped out at any point during his first 2-3 years, few people would have noticed and even fewer would have cared. We humans (myself included) are prone to thinking that when we see someone who's really good at something its because they're uniquely qualified. But while talent is certainly useful, the more important quality is skill. And building skill means persevering through often many years of being crap at whatever you're doing but continuing to do it anyway. But as I well know from experience, perseverance is itself a hard skill to master. So much easier to just throw on a Mumbo video and zone out. Get that short term entertainment fix rather than spending time on improving a long term skill.

I love how this little mini-vlog sort of thing has the same style as his documentaries. Just makes it that much more interesting. It doesn't really matter what he says at this point. I'mma listen because of the chill music and cinematic style.

man when you were talking about listening to songs and imagining bmx montages over the top of that I felt it SO HARD!!! i do animation and every time I listen to a song I imagine what animation I would want to so over the top of it, it gets to the point where I dont really enjoy the song if I cant imagine something to go with it

Man, I would love to see an alternate reality where Mumbo is a professional animator. Now *that* would be epic. Mumbo as a cinematographer and expert car enthusiast is also amazing though, so not like I have any room to complain.
