Every song of his is like a really long haiku. Every word, every syllable is exactly the right one. It's bonkers how good of a lyricist he is.

I don't know if it's because you can hear the tiredness and strain in his voice but this song gave me mad chills. Even going through so much he still pushes the creative boundaries beautifully and brilliantly.

Literally everything he does is on a level that blows my mind. It's like the crucible Ren lived through, is living through, was a purifying flame that refined his music into something so much more than music. An anthem to the Human Condition.

So many of the tracks he's been making in the last ten years deserved a bigger audience. It's incredible to see people finding them and just connecting so instantly. We're so lucky that he really did hold on. I'd love, love, love to see you and Ren in conversation. Such similar energy. You both lift the people around you whenever you can, even when you have a lot to deal with.

For REN, this was truly his reality. Misdiagnosed with Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic. Second is dealing with the symptoms of Lyme neuroborreliosis, these neurological symptoms often leave patients feeling drained and debilitated as they begin losing their quality of life. Over time, patients find themselves unable to do the things they love as they struggle to get ahead of their progressing symptoms.

I love how Ren is able to pull such interesting flows out of, what seems at first, to be a very chill type beat. He's done this with a few other tracks. As someone who deals with health problems, this song is special on hard days. Just Hold On He might have meant it as a message to himself originally but so many can relate.

I just finished watching Black Pegasus reacting to Freckled Angels… it literally made me cry. In fact about half of REN’s songs have made me cry. Hi Ren, The Jenny, Screech and Violet triple threat, Diazepam, Chalk Outlines, Sick Boi, How to be Me with Chinchilla again. Those are just some that have evoked an emotional reaction from me. A others like The Hunger, Power, What You Want, Losing It, Illest of our Time and Animal Flow just get my adrenaline pumping, and yet others like War Pigs with The Big Push just astound me at the range of musical genius he possesses!!! Ren is a MONSTER. Many people don’t get Ren; they think he is going for shock value on tunes like Animal Flow like Eminem… but he isn’t. Everything Ren writes is a different facet of the human condition that we should ALL be able to relate to.

This is a live acoustic version from 8 years ago when he had been diagnosed with M.E but BEFORE he had a Lyme Disease diagnosis and probably when he was at his lowest point. It's worth checking out. As an aside, I've started revisiting Ren reactors first introductions to Ren just to see how they feel about all his music now in order to see reactor's journeys into the man and his music. Your first one was Hi Ren on 6th Jan 2023 and you got it immediately. Keep it coming Cliff!! Thanks

Second this! It was used on the soundtrack for the documentary ‘Unrest’ about M.E. which he features in. Having lived with it myself for 3 decades, seeing such a young and unwell Ren create such an incredibly beautiful and sensitive song was deeply moving. A song filled with his now infamous wisdom beyond his years, that became such a powerfully hope filled anthem of sorts for the community. A beautiful gift. It brings such enormous joy to see not only his dreams were kept alive, but to see the reach his incredible talent and music now has and of course his well earned recognition. He has a very moving vlog video on his channel (near the top) from that era, used as the announcement video for his new album and Hi Ren, with a very moving write-up below explaining it all. Watching (and reading) it really makes many of his songs and lyrics, both new and older such as Hold On, hit home all the more and add extra context. Seeing how much stronger he looks now compared to the vlog also helps put things into stark perspective. And inspires hope.

Love this song and yes it is amazing that he could write this, with such a positive message when he was suffering his darkest times through which no end was in sight and he worried he wouldnt live to 30... Yes he has held on to all he said he would. I also beleive he is holding on to his declaration aged just 17 that he would "one day defeat the forces of evil" - like a Warrior of Light he is bringing Light to the Darkness in a myriad of ways, both in ourselves internally and our exterior world. Love your support and genuine appreciation of our boy Ren. You're definitely one of us

YES! I'm 70, and I haven't listened to much mainstream music in at LEAST 2-3 decades because - worst crime of all - it bores me. Not Ren, not those he works with. They're all amazing. (Dirty Loops is incredible and innovative too). And you're right - the difference is art. Our current system doesn't support artists: they pick very young kids with a plausible voice that they can build a facade around... they don't have control of their voices, either their soul (voice) or physical voices. They never learn to use their physical voice because they don't have to: everything can be fixed. And they're not allowed to express their soul, because it doesn't fit their minders idea of commercial. Ren is brilliant, but he also had the time to learn how to do it while busking on the streets. Few artists these days have much time in front real audiences, much less in front of audiences that didn't come to see them and would be just as happy walking on. Illness or not, he's worked HARD and developed his incredible artistic ear and eye. It's no accident that his performances are incredibly gripping and suck you in from the first note. If you're busking, folks walk away if you can't do that. We are so lucky to be listening to him!
