"plata o plomo" : literal tradition is correct as plata=silver, but the same word "plata" is a slang for "money" in some hispanic countris, and in Medellin- colombia is the most used word to reffer to money, so , the actual meaning of "plata o plomo" is "money or lead", lead in the sentence reffers to bullets

@@GhostRider-hy9zt that’s my point, they were talking about how the us would take down Escobar in 2 weeks when in reality it’s so much harder than that because your not fighting and official state. You can’t just send soldiers in, it’s a literal political nightmare to fight such an elusive enemy

Pretty sure it turned to $420 million a day. Even he didn't expect to make that much. Then he noticed that people loved cocaine a lot more than he thought. Demand went through the roof. He controlled 80% of cocaine on the planet, and all cartels had to pay him a very big cut if they wanted to stay in the business. He would destroy any shipments that weren't paid for and kill everyone involved in the transport. He made more money than he ever imagined.

A lot of people would’ve died without results, bombs would be everywhere and Pablo would’ve probably died by 2003 due to the heat of violence created by him being so close to US but he didn’t care like with the Cuba-Colombian war in the early 1980s in Miami

Love him or hate him, anyone that could negotiate building his own prison to serve his sentence that included a night club with stripper poles, a swimming pool, a soccer field and many luxurious amenities including allowed having everyone to come and enjoy his party is pretty much a legend. As notorious as Pablo was his biggest achievement was his children. They are great members of society today.

Also regardless of his motive, how many people’s lives did he change for the better, albeit a lot other people’s for the worse

I'm from Chicago but I've been living in Medellin, Colombia for 2 years. First of all, it's fucking awesome here. For those who haven't really heard or researched what Medellin is like these days, try Googling "Medellin expat" or "Medellin travel" or even "best countries to retire." Then google "Medellin girls" and see what happens. I've specifically been living in Laureles, on 70th street, which is about half a mile from where Escobar was killed. I pass that building every few days while walking to Obelisco mall. Generally speaking, it's not advisable to bring up Escobar with Colombians you don't know very well. The older Colombians generally feel traumatized and/or shame due to the years of war they experienced in their city, and prefer to never talk about it. Then you have younger people whose parents or other family members got injured or killed due to the Escobar era. I've seen quite a few sexy young women suddenly break down crying after some American dude trying to date her brought up the show Narcos, or tried to have them watch it on Netflix. It can be touchy. HOwever, there is also a pretty large contigent of people, mostly dudes of course, who take a sort of perverse pride in having the most world famous gangster of all time attached to their city, and who know his history back and forth, and wear Escobar t shirts and shit. You want to find one of them if you want to talk Escobar in Medellin. THey can also tell you about the modern day narcos here, and how they were birthed by Escobar and others from that era. Right now, La Oficina is the most feared and powerful narco group in Medellin, based in the suburban Envigado area
