How did Cesc Fabregas Revolutionize Arsenal?

Спорт

Cesc Fabregas is one of the most influential footballers in the recent history of Arsenal Football club.
So much so that he was actually responsible for revolutionizing how they play the very game of football while he was still a player at the club.
With that in mind, that brings us to the question of the day: How did Cesc Fabregas revolutionize Arsenal?

    Fabregas had a stipulation in his contract that would prioritise an offer from Arsenal above any other club. Of course Fabregas was leaving and asked Barcelona to wait out for an offer from Arsenal to come in, supposedly Wenger wasn’t interested and Fabregas eventually settled for Chelsea. This is from the man himself.

    @@kingdj2451 I think in terms of vision, seeing the game in front of him and his passing range he was ahead of Vieira but everything else Vieira was a better player. People often forget how technically gifted Vieira was. In possession Vieira was certainly more comfortable than Fabrigas, he had great feet for a big guy, often taking the ball down, using his twinkle toes to get a little room past a player then he would use his power and athleticism to drive away from them and tear through the middle of teams. Vieira was no slouch in terms of passing having an excellent range of passing although not on the level of Fabrigas who in my years of watching Arsenal only Bergkamp was probably a better passer of the ball. But its everything going backwards where Vieira absolutely dwarves Fabby. Fabrigas lack of pace and strength was his biggest weakness and the more powerful players could go past him with ease. What I will say is it didn't stop Fabrigas trying, he was a fighter and certainly didn't lack effort in his defensive duties but it wasn't his game, he was more about everything in front, where he was one of the best I have seen for Arsenal. Just a shame Wenger went too far into buying technical players and didn't invest in some power and athleticism. I could have seen us win a few more trophies if we had secured Yaya Toure to partner Fabrigas in our midfield. Of course we had Diaby which obviously didn't work out, but even when he was fit and playing he tended to be more comfortable in an 8 role rather than a 6.

    What a player Fabregas was he won everything in the game, leagues, European cups, and international trophies. The only thing missing is the individual awards and recognition, he should be mentioned in the same breath as Xavi, Iniesta and Pirlo as one of the best of Midfielders in the same 2000s and 2010s. My Favourite Player of All Time: ● Fabregas was 17 years old during virtually the entirety of his breakthrough season of 04/05 and made 33 league appearances (24 starts) in a side just off the back of winning the previous seasons league without losing a game, finished 2nd in that current campaign and won the FA Cup. Just let that sink in. Absolutely frightening 😲. ● Youngest Arsenal goalscorer: (16 years 212 days v Wolves Dec 2003) Youngest Arsenal goalscorer in League: (17 years 113 days v Blackburn Aug 2004) Youngest Arsenal goalscorer in Europe: (17 years 217 days v Rosenborg Dec 2004) ● Only he and Evan Ferguson have 10+ goals/assists to there names as 18 year olds in the Premier League era who weren't from England. Had to get that one in as an Irishman 😄. ● Statistics show that in the five years prior to Fàbregas's departure from Arsenal, Fàbregas created 466 goal-scoring chances, made 86 assists and scored 48 goals, all three statistics topping those of new teammates Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, despite both having made more appearances in the same period. ● 09/10 League Season: Apps: 27 Goals: 15 Assists: 15 Who knows what numbers he would have finished with that season if he'd avoided a few niggling injuries during the first half of that campaign and not fractured his leg to Barca in March and been ruled out for the remainder of the season. I've no doubt that he would have comfortably broken the record of 20 assists in a PL season and in all likelihood would have 20+ League goals to his name alongside it. All from CM at 22 years of age in his second season as club captain as well it's worth noting. ● All time leader in history of assists for Spanish national team. ● Most assists as a CM in the 21st century ahead of the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Iniesta & Xavi. ● Only player in PL era to record 10+ assists in 6 separate seasons. ● 2nd All Time Leader in assists in PL history to Ryan Giggs who spent 9 and a half more seasons than him in the PL . ● Made captain of Arsenal at the tender age of 21 as well. He was absolute magic.

    Yikes, he was only 24 when he went to Barca. It felt like he was 28 - he'd been an influential 1st team regular for so long. Definitely a legend. He was right to leave, as sad as it was for the fans. If the powers that be had got him a decent team to lead he'd definitely have stayed. Arsenal were the ONLY big club to use new stadium costs and balancing finances as an excuse for not getting the best players in.

    It wasn't an "excuse." Arsenal were also the only big club in that era to build a new stadium, and they did it while keeping Russian oligarchs like Usmanov from taking over the club. Wenger and the board did they best they could with what they had. He kept the club in the CL for 10 years after opening the stadium. After the unbeaten season and run and the doubles, it's probably his most impressive achievement.

    Fabregas was a joy to watch at Arsenal. He played a key role for Arsenal to keep up with Manchester United and Chelsea. Assisted the winning goal in South Africa in 2010 when he passed the ball to Iniesta. Got his dream move but joined them at the wrong time and return to England but joined Chelsea instead when Wenger refused to bring him back to Arsenal.

    Barcelona stunted his growth imo. It wasn't the right time for him to leave Arsenal and I truly think he would've had a better career had he postponed his return to Barca for a few more years. He was playing the best football of his career and captaining a respectable club at 25. Everybody knew wasn't going to offset an already balanced Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets at that point of their careers. In the end Arsenal's captain prematurely left for Barca's bench and several key Arsenal players jumped ship that window because of this transfer...

    He stepped up to fill the boots of Patrick Vieira the best CDM alongside Roy Keane It's hard to fill the boots of someone like Vieira but Fabregas did well Captain at 21 years was major faith in him from Arsene Wenger His time at Barcelona wasn't great, it's hard to turn down Barcelona his dream club who pursued him so much, Spanish players after winning the World Cup in 2010 during the celebrations tried making him wear a Barca jersey He could have stayed at Arsenal coz there's no way he was going to dislodge either Sergio - Xavi and Iniesta from the first 11 well unless Barca could have played Iniesta on the wing like in the Spain national team but it's hard to say no to Barcelona especially during that time His time at Chelsea was great too He was one of the best midfielders to play in the EPL

    100%. He finished with 15 goals and 15 assists from 27 PL appearances during the 09/10 season. Who knows what numbers he would have finished with that season if he'd avoided a few niggling injuries during the first half of that campaign and not fractured his leg to Barca in March and been ruled out for the remainder of the season. I've no doubt that he would have comfortably broken the record of 20 assists in a PL season and in all likelihood would have 20+ League goals to his name alongside it. When Arsenal started building the Emirates stadium they were cash strapped in terms of buying players, they couldn't replace their invincible team with players of the same quality players and hence their team's standards went down But Arsene Wenger did his best to use academy graduates, young players and not so world class players and maintain their top 4 spot Mourinho joined Chelsea after Abramovich's take over and changed the two horse race into a 3 horse race

    I wouldn't say he revolutionised arsenal, as arsenal's best era was pre fabregas. He was the reason for the change in style of play that seemed to work in Europe but fell short in the league at crucial stages. Definitely one of arsenal's top 10 best ever players and right up there with Xavi and Iniesta.

    I think what Fabregas did was show Wenger that as grear as Vieira was, his role was a bit overrated. It's wonderful to have a big, tough ball winning center mid. But rather than tackles, the best defense is to just HAVE the ball. Fab was similar to his la masia compatriots Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets in that their huge defensive impact came from NOT giving the ball up and making subtle midfield interceptions that aren't as memorable or flashy as a tough tackle.

  • @gladiatorscoops4907

    @gladiatorscoops4907

    Vieira had much more to his game than just being physical and being a tough tackler. That's what made him a special player. People often forget how technically gifted Vieira was. In possession Vieira was certainly more comfortable than Fabrigas, he had great feet for a big guy, often controlling difficult passes, or dispossessing a player, then using his twinkle toes to get a little room past a player then use his power and athleticism to drive away from them and tear through the middle of teams. Vieira was no slouch in terms of passing having an excellent range of passing although not on the level of Fabrigas who in my years of watching Arsenal only Bergkamp was probably a better passer of the ball. The reason why Wenger sold Vieira was because he knew Vieira's body was breaking down and was already showing a decline compared to previous seasons. Due to his build, physiology Vieira was never going to be able to keep reproducing the same level's of intensity in the PL going into his late 20's early 30's. Watch the CL Juve vs Arsenal match at Highbury - Fabrigas ran rings around Vieira only a short time after he left the club - Fabrigas star was on the rise and Vieira was already showing he was a shadow of the player he was in his prime at Arsenal. As good as Fabrigas was that evening if he played a 25 year old Vieira that night he would have been absolutely dominated. In short - Wenger trusted Fabrigas as the player who could replace him in being the driving force for the team and funds weren't there for Arsenal to go into the market either. Vieira's style of play hadn't become redundant, far from it as someone like Yaya Toure showed in his brief time in the PL. In my opinion and a lot of peoples opinions Wenger leaned too heavily into technical excellence rather than power and pace which was still really needed to be successful in the PL and this is what ultimately cost us winning more titles and being labelled as "soft" by other teams.
