Barry Gibb wrote this song for the John Travolta film Saturday Night fever. Even though the Bee Gees wrote almost a thousand songs, and many for others , he said in an interview that this was his favorite . He described the motivation for the song and the beautiful and introspective lyrics. It went to #3 in England and #1 around the world in many countries.

I can totally understand why this would be his favorite! I can't get enough of it.

Better title than "How Shallow Is Your Love" HEHEHEH The Bee Gees were so amazing during their disco time. Those harmonies were butter and the songwriting was great. Too Much Heaven, HDIYL, Tragedy, Stayin Alive.... so many hits. Jive Talkin. 1:37 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh. I can hear those harmonies coming in! 2:26 that C# 9 there is just so sweet, given it's altered the key temporarily. 3:11 that tiiiiny pause you added to the tempo... and again just a tad later at 3:22 b4 the b verse or pre-chorus whatever you'd like to call it is so nice. just a hint. it makes the end of the phrase seem more gentle. Nice job!!!!

Thanks so much! Barry Gibb is an unrecognized genius. He's written so many songs for his group and for other artists and I feel like the whole disdain for Disco that arose in the 80s did him wrong. BTW, I LOVE Disco.

@@ThePianoKeys Yeah, disco started to get bashed and maybe it was kind of a fad but some elements are still alive and kicking. Dance music probably will never die so... that's a lot of what disco was about. A good beat, for one. Yeah, Barry wrote some songs for others like Islands In The Stream and one for Samantha Sang and one for his youngest brother, I think. What was that one called.... I forget. Anyway, I just loved the musical parts of it. The chords and melody.

actually i am wondering if u could teach bach's prelude in G minor. the bars speed movements is so horrifying i cudn get clue how to learn it but actually when i listened to it i went mad i have never listened inmy life such an attractive composition it really touched my heart and am listening to it from all experienced pianists in youtube to quench my thirst for it 🥰

What a classic song. Even if you take away the music for minute and look at the lyrics alone - no one writes like that anymore. Well, maybe some artists do, but they are few and far between and are largely ignored by the current culture.

Wow Marina I am so happy that you've made an arrangement of this song !! Once again your timing is incredible as far as I'm concerned ! Just yesterday I was considering to try to play this song's melody by ear. I have been taking some voice lessons and this is one of the songs I want to sing. I have already attempted to play by ear at the piano another song that I am singing with my voice coach. In fact I will try to post soon my playing by ear experiment on the Facebook group (in anticipation of your masterclass 😉) So now I am conflicted between listening to your arrangement now or try to find the notes of the melody by myself and then buy your arrangement as a correction. Actually I will listen to it without watching you play, I would like to try to find the melody by myself without cheating 😉

@@ThePianoKeys I do think that playing by ear will bring me to the next level as a musician and pianist, it really helps me understand music more and more and use all that knowledge I gained from the chords and rhythm masterclasses. It is such a complete skill I think. It's all coming together! As for the singing and playing at the same time that will be another step for me. Maybe you will teach us how to accompany ourselves at the piano while singing. Pretty please 🥺😁❤️
