See how much and how quickly it gets dark during a total solar eclipse as totality begins during the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017 from Annex, Oregon. Using a synced video of the Sun, you can watch the Moon's shadow race across the hills as totality begins. Note the difference in light between just 99% coverage and totality.
It really is worth it to chase the shadow!

Thank you for this video and THANK YOU for showing the effects of the environment (lighting) on the GROUND and not just the moon passing in front of the sun. So many videos I watched to get an idea about the 80 percent eclipse we will have this year (2024) in my area and most people only show a filtered version of the moon passing in front of the sun. Yeah, that is fascinating BUT i also wanna see how dark it will get. Maybe this video can give me a rough idea and I appreciate the time you took to produce it like this. PERFECT!!!

I was in glendo Wyoming when the eclipse. It was surreal to see how quickly it got dark. Took some Great photos.

Yes - It's surprising how bright the surroundings are even after the mood covers more that 75 of the sun.
