Arpgs are all about understanding the mechanics. Once you do the overpowered nonsense is hella fun. I see it more of a spreadsheet gaming kind of thing, getting more time and fun from the theorycraft. Once you get into it, certain themes crop up time and time again. Maybe in one game you have trigger on hit, so you see what hits the most, maybe a flamethrower, so you test that but perhaps you discover an internal cooldown that prevents over triggering so then you drop that or swap to something that still maxes it... so on. Reverse engineering the code is an essential part of the fun for me. Snapshot and how skills refresh is 101 for. .. well i consider it strategy gaming, i build builds for my friends in all manner of games, actually playing them isn't high on my priorities personally other than to analyse them. Once I feel i've perfected them I quickly get bored. One of my friends recently had to endure a lecture on how the build was statistically inefficient due to the item rarity farming due to the better sub stats from more common items and the exponential time investment for said sub stats.

thats my issue with maxroll build makers, most of them just make the most basic surface and obvious builds you can make, and call themselves experts at a class., not saying all of them are like that or that its wrong, but kinda.

Happens in most games.. People copy builds and have little understanding of the mechanics so they just end up deeming the build as "trash" / "not viable". Arpgs take some problem solving and understanding of how all mechanics work to really make certain builds shine..

@@Oxmosh yeah maxroll really dropped the ball on D4 release. Especially their leveling builds are almost all terribly unoptimised. Will obviously become better when knowledge of the game is more widespread but they clearly showed their lack of deep research about thengame less obvious mechanics.

I've been playing the firewall build for the past week on my sorc, currently level 87 and am loving the DoT style gameplay way more than I thought I would. I'm also running control aspect on my amulet but one change I did make which I am finding fits in the playstyle very well is the Flame shield aspect on my boots. The immobilize can be very clutch and the unhindered movement through enemies is great for kiting or getting out of the huge dogpiles after teleporting in with Raiment. Love your builds kripp, keep it up ^^

Love to use Bleed Barb for that DOT. Combined with Iron Will for longevity, rupture and rends, it's got the best DOT imo.
Thanks for the build and streaming, I am keeping using the firewall build and got those big numbers like 200K per tick during valuable(5 sec teleport, 9 sec nova, 50%-80% lucky hit); however, when I saw Barb's 2M-3M damage and arc lash's damage... ...You always mentioned about the tankness for fire sorc, but we will be one shotted anyway in high level dungeon when elite/white mobs got unstoppable. I feel the weakness of fire mage now...especially against the final boss at 100.

@@marsovac that's right, then fire sorc lost the advantage of tankness. At least ice mage has more dps. Again, I really like fire mage, and I am playing it.

Fire sorc definitely needs a buff though. In one hit, other classes will do 10x the damage we have to wait 5s to tick lol

I have a Sorcerer lvl 55 and It deal like 10k crit. Is it ok ? I have 22 crit chance and with the aspects bonus could be like 60 crit chance. I'm considering add some lucky hit but I have doubts

Howdy! I have a general question about the necromancer and his damage over time. For example the blight corpse explo and blight itself. As far as I understand it they both are area DoTs and not "applied DoTs" - so what about the stat "+X % Damage over time" - does it increase the dmg of the area effects aswell?

One thing that wasn't discussed was attack speed and how it impacts the damage of your DoT. I noticed that for most cases, attack speed doesn't seem to have any impact, so the "DPS" calculation showing for each weapon will vary greatly if it's a 0.9 att speed or 1.1 att speed. This is especially important if you are running a cooldown-based DoT application

Attack Speed in the case of Firewall Sorc, would simply allow you to place more firewalls per second. Which is still a damage increase provided you have the mana to keep up.

Any idea if poison detonation aspects (e.g. shred's dash detonating 30-180% of poison on druid) hit for more than the 'snapshotted' poison amount? Like if it detonates for 180% damage, its effectively 80% more poison damage? Using this in-game doesnt seem to do additional poison damage, but still not sure. Haven't been able to find an answer elsewhere. Thanks!

I swapped to Firewall from Shotgun Shards after hearing you talk about how tanky it was. I was dealing insane damage with Shards but I was so squishy (gear is far from finalized). Swapped to Firewall and was soloing Butcher with ease on WT4 but was struggling with the damage. Had no clue Control stacked and I wasn't using meteor. Lessons learned the hard way! Can't wait to retry this once I get home. From a longtime HS viewer/fan, thanks Kripp.

When you see butcher go to a shrine a bug him out going around the pole for 3 or 4 times. Then just ice shard him to death. For sorcs there is no other way in nightmare 40+
Hey Kripp, thanks for a nice video! Ive been using Poison imbuement on my Rogue. It applies DoT based on the damage of my Penetrating shot. The more I prepare/boost my shot, the more it poisons afterwards. My question is this: does the poisoning damage calculate if my shot critted or not? Because it does calculate other pre-buffs to the shot, as far as I see (number of mobs pierced, dmg to vulnerable, etc.) I've been focusing on some crit on my gear, and I wonder if that's smart in my case, or I am wasting stat slots.

This is so incredibly helpful! Both classes I’ve been playing operate off DoT abilities and this fundamentally changed how I play them! I struggled with knowing if it’s better to apply dot or vulnerable first based on how long they’d overlap but this solves that! Thanks!

I wanted to ask you if rabies with the werewolves companions can make a similar effect as firewall. Stacking a lot of rabies applications on the enemies or it would reset the dot time only?

Was looking more for an explanation of does + damage overtime increase how much is snap shotted or how fast the snap shot amount is actually applied. Same for +burning dmg.
Slayed The Butcher on WT4 and did the WT4 capstone dungeon with your build on Hardcore! Its been a slow buildup but i do giga damage when everything snapshots and i clear Elites like they are normal mobs lmao currently 75 and have about half your damage but still feels nice ticking 50ks on bosses, 100k when they are staggered!
So incinerate says the damage is burning damage but i noticed the enemy doesnt get a dot or burn over time after stopping the skill. So is each tick of incinerate damage a direct burn damage? If firebolt enchanted, does the burn damage from it ramp up overtime since its directly applied every tick, or does it simple refresh every tick? Does damage over time bonuses effect the damage from incinerate?
Kripp, your Mobalytics build still shows Combustion key passive but Shatter seems to be what you were using. Also, can you update your Lothric paragon board if you have the time? Cheers

I am playing the poison trap rogue, and the dot damage is insane. I've noticed the damage ticks go way up once there normal health bar is gone and the health is shaded out.

Yes running Ghost Walker or Binding Ember aspects are both viable when first running this build. Though once you find the unique chestpiece or get enough crowd control reduction you will find Exploiters aspect to be the best call. GhostWalkers can be put on a spare pair of +Move% boots in your bag since you can swap them anytime if you need to move somewhere fast.

I just started watching you from a friend. Was using maxroll for ice shards build. See yours is slightly different in not using shatter. Are they both good endgame?
So is firewall enchantment worth it? What if I just need mobs to go through 1 firewall but then it procs 2 more under them?
Kripp are the Unique pants for overhealing into barrier good for firewall sorc?
Does DOT stack though? For example, if I explode 3 corpses with the blight upgrade am I getting stacking damage or is it just counting all three pools of blight as one?
Do DoT's tick faster based on attack speed? Here I'm referring to both appliable dots like firebolt and ground dots like blight or firewall.
hmm.... good info to know, i had no idea that each of those %'s on that aspect stacked (stun, frozen & immobilize), that makes me happy lol. but what i came to find out was about the affix "+ X% damage over time". does this % apply to firewall or any of the fire skills for that matter that a fire sorc would use, or is this affix only applied onto skills that apply specific DOT's (not area DOTs the enemy can walk away from), etc. .*edit* nvm i think it was cause i didnt do the last boss lol
The Firewall build seems very inconsistent for me. Obivously I must be doing something different even though I'm playing it the same way, but sometimes I'll tick for only 11k and others its like 250k. Dropping all my debuffs before dumping my firewalls. A lot of the time it seems like the damage doesn't start to rack up until I move away for some reason, even though I'm using the aspect for more damage when you stand still.
I love the whole Tele stomp - meteor- frost nova gameplay im using it with Ice Shards and Shatter and I can blow up lvl 93 elite packs at lvl 71. It’s incredibly addictive and it appears as though firewall is even More effective with this specific rotation. I just wish I didn’t get 1 shot by corpse bows so often!
Grats on 100. I tried Firewall and enjoyed but getting those raining down of meteors just was to far and few between. May like to go back to it at higher levels.

Yes, many builds and skills with % requirements really need a high level and good rolls to be satisfactory. My rule is 20% usually as a minimum, if in an rpg it triggers less than that it is often unsatisfactory.
Been running necromancer with shadow dot the aspect that turns all your ults to shadow dmg is so good
hi , can i have a quick explanation on how the aspect at 7:34 work pls? i mean when the enemy actually are unstoppable?
i'd love to know if the different methods of applying slow debuff with the necro stack? i found questions on reddit about it, but no answer so far. i don't get why monsters don't have debuff icons shown with the actual number so you can see it yourself in the game.
doesnt fireshield erase damage over time, or going into your bubble proc that makes you immune?

Firewall works immediately and is one of the better leveling skills. The LA's/affixes/etc are all about scaling damage and don't really fundamentally change how firewall works
lets say i have a barbarian and have REND which gives my attack some bleed damage. If i get a node that +10% physical damage over time.... how does that work? does the bleed damage increase ? or, are bleed damage and physical damage over time treated as seperate things?
I love the fire wall build it’s amazing for clearing dungeons solo walk through a room throw fire walk out and their dead.
if i apply 2 or 3 rends in a row does the DoT stack or refresh? same thing for multiskill like flay and then rend. does it stack both different skills or same skill reused? Another question that may be redundant after the video: does bleed get extra dmg when applied to vulnerable or when im berzerking?

Different sources of bleed stack but 2-3 rends don't, it just refreshes the duration.
The advantage to persistant aoe DoT effects (darkness corpse explosion for example) is the fact that order of application doesnt matter. So, increased damage effects such as bonus damage to crowd controlled enemies. Will apply whether you apply it before or after. But, that is dependent on them staying inside that AoE. Single application DoT's have an increased curve to benefit from such buffs. To offset the fact that they are more dependent on an order of application. Which can be screwed up by mechanics. So it is really dependent on what you're looking to do. My necro build is a minion/explosion build. Where i passively get corpses that grant barrier and blood orbs (also heal my minions with them). And i essentially carpet bomb the area with darkness puddles from corpse explosion. Which, has no essence cost due to it having a unique trigger. Applying slow curse and golem smash to stun as well as make vulnerable. While they're in a lake of darkness. And watch as healthbars melt as i run around collecting orbs and spamming more corpse explosion. In that style, it doesnt matter if i slow/stun/vuln them first or second. This build has a higher skill ceiling that i think people just arent grasping. But will net higher overall damage than mine, when done properly. But, it seems that this build is more dependent on cooldowns to make work. Since i can also make bone storm have no cooldown through aspects. For persistant moveable AoE damage and 20% reduced damage to me. Muahahaha!! Admission: occasionally, the passive corpse spawns don't happen due to bad RNG. And I'm literally running for my life while waiting for it to happen. Lmao

I had to spec out of darkness explosion, just really hate not being able to see anything on screen at all, it's not just darkness it like creats an ever growing impenetrable void over the screen and I can't see shit too lol.

@@via_negativa6183 That's perfectly fair. I'm only running it while progressing through the story and such. As my build actually focuses more on the minions than the darkness damage. And I'm sure that won't be viable as I progress into or past world tier 3. I'll be running a tanky blood build with my necro then. With the intent on "tanking" when doing stuff in a group.

@@keldor8302 I feel 6 skele mages casting Blizzard is the way to go with control glyph, I'm running mine as tank too. Some one said the darkness effect is actually a bug but I've seen no confirmation from.Blizzard this is actually the case.

Ty my sorc is awesome now, just a few tweaks, nothing amazing but just solod Elias at 64 to get to torment from the help.
It does great damage it just does it over time… if the firewall was more like 4 seconds or 6 and not 8 it would be so much better. Honestly wish they had an aspect or unique for firewall to have reduced time span for the burn damage.

The poison damage thing is also oddly confusing when playing for example a Barbarian with Fortify. I can't for the life of me figure out which part of my health globe is getting absolutely destroyed - my fortify or my life? I kinda know which is which but it is very hard to read...
Also, how does lucky hit chance work with firewall? is it a 30% chance every tick of damage?
I think immunities also help reduce poison damage taken. I've had times where I was severely poisoned and ticking for my entire health bar in damage, used blood mist (makes me immune for 3 seconds) and when I came back out of it, most of the poison was gone. Not entirely sure how it works, just anecdotal stuff I've seen.

It works by making you invincible. If you're invincible you can't take any kind of damage, snapshotted or otherwise. Meaning, however much damage you would have taken gets reduced to 0 for that duration but the poison is still ticking down so the overall damage is lower.
Hey Kripp, wonder if your interested in the topic of Bleeds procced on direct damage. Specifically on barb, the 2H Swords Specialization (deal 20% of direct dmg as bleed over 5 secs), and the Aspect of Berserk Ripping (60% of direct damage dealt as bleed). What I noticed is that these procs always have the same dmg value, regardless if you crit or not. Which seems weird. If I hit for 100, and proc a 20 dmg bleed, then a 300 dmg crit should proc a 60 dmg bleed right? I know that bleeds inherently don't crit, but this is different. The bleed should proc properly of the crits' damage.

That effect might be dealing a flat percentage of your 'base' damage, like how a basic skill says it does eg. 30% dmg and a core skill does 80% dmg when you have advanced tooltip option enabled. So changing your weapon will change the bleed proc but modifiers to a skill's hit dmg won't affect it. I could be wrong there tho.
I just want to know if whirlwind counts as physical dmg overtime even without the bleed talent.
What's your opinion regarding necro's ShadowBlight skill? From my understanding, this skill and the Blighted Corpse Explosion are DoT and because of that they shouldn't crit, but for reasons I'm struggling to understand yet the most popular shadowblight builds are also stacking crit chance and crit damage.

Full dot build need no CRIT chance or crit damage, but some ppl mix cause of the items they have at hand, but end build should have no CRIT on your build if u want dot dmg
Do you need to apply a poison before you do the big poison hit if you want to use the dmg vs poison? (Same for slow, stunned etc)

I started using this build last night and it was very good. It pushes harder than arc lash/lg ball

Hi. How works dots and lucky hits?
Barriers explain why my sorcerer has only died a few times in 85 levels. And my necromancer has fortified and barriers. I have to ask though, is +Damage Over Time on a weapon any good if you have no DOT skills? Or is it just physical damage?

This is the reason why I have been enjoying dot necromancer so much! Enemies get tanked by minions while my corpse explosion and other dots melt them and my other abilities add power to the dot

Snapshotting will work the same for all. Stack up all your cc effects. Vulnerable etc and then apply your poison. Whether that's shred or poison creeper or something. The poison on crit would be harder to snapshot since you can't control it to time it after you have everything applied.
Does attack speed affect dot tick rates?
Can you put chill on a fire wall?
That's weird because i don't see the tooltip of firewall getting higher with +% damage over time on my gear, but with +% fire dmg, or +% fire dmg over time it does get higher, is that some kind of bug or dmg over time stat is irrelevant for burning damage ?
This nice build iw came up with something simmilar but using hydra instead of firewall cause love my kiting since d1 on mage class :D Still cant get the chest to drop. Got my hydra 12/5 and fireball 8/5. Hydras procing frost novas explosion of mobs everywhere haha

They are in the same damage "bucket" so very similar. Fire damage will apply on hit while over time won't however since most of your damage is over time just take the higher roll.
This build looks insane. Leave it to Krip to make one of the most interesting builds I have seen so far.
i use these tricks a lot with my rogue poison build. Can easily get a poison trap to almost 1 shot large mobs with all the stacking modifiers.

Does DOT damage count for cooldown reduction to the evade skill on the boots for example?

It can proc off your dots but only once per cast. Same with meteors and firewall enhancements.

This is surprising to me, because the blight DOT for the necro was very underwhelming. After finding out that DOT does not crit, a bone spear build turned out much better for me. Without skellies I didn't know how to maintain a Necro DOT build; is it possible?

For shadow dot its corpse explosion miasma, blight is just your starter. You need shadow blight aspect and passive, along with reaper skeletons corpse generation and passive on skill tree. and preferably atleast +2 to corpse explode.

There are two uniques dedicated to corpse explosion. Both of those juice it. Corpse Explosion also just stacks and stacks as you get more corpses. Which then triggers shadowblight. The damage ramps exponentially with certain legendary/unique effects.

Can somebody explain to me why weapon and armor forging was removed from D4? In D3, was always guaranteed armor and or weapon at my level thus making it easier to fight monsters at higher tier level, Torment Level 1 when you start a season character

I'm using the same aspect on the ammy and the same chest for my crackling energy sorc. The damage increase from the aspect is just too good to use anything else, since it's a MORE multiplier and having it on an ammy gives 1.5 times the affix values (2x if on a 2h). Plus if you pickup the vulnerable modifier for frost nova, that's another 20% MORE damage when the mobs are frozen.
Dot even kills mobs through immune. I'm a bleed barb and during the world events where things channel to protect a giant mob or shrine the bleed I placed kills the objective while the goons are still channeling and making it "immune" Feels wrong, but w/e if it works.
Need help. I created a sorc build with infinite shield barrier cooldown based on andariels visage and 10mil crits I think my paragon isn't helping at full power

Can you comment on how the "Damage Over Time" affix works with relation to the damage buckets? Is it the same bucket as like "Damage to Slowed Enemies" or is it a different bucket?

@@quintit Maxroll does not have any info on where the affix that specifically says "Damage Over Time" falls in the damage buckets. It's ambiguous on whether it's a Damage Bonus or Separate Multiplier.

Its in the same bucket as EVERYTHING in the game except for crits, vuln and weapon dmg ofc

@@davidbousi7845 There are exceptions to that rule, which these KZread influencers/experts are not aware of or considering. Several examples include: 1) The damage multiplier from the "Blighted" aspect which requires you to accumulate 10 stacks from Shadowblight damage (i.e. you applied 100 shadow damage hits collectively to targets). You then get 6 seconds of x50-120% damage multiplier on top of everything else, which can be amplified to 180% (amulet) or 240% (2H weapon). The only thing I don't like about this aspect is that you can't start building a new set of 10 stacks to refresh the buff; you have to wait until the first buff expires. 2) The "Wither" legendary node effect on the Necromancer shadow paragon board. This has a 5% proc rate +1% per 50 willpower to apply 50% "bonus damage" + 2.5% per 50 willpower. It is definitely odd that Shadowmancers (a subset of Necromancers) have to embrace willpower so much, not just this node but many of the shadow and related glyphs require willpower. You either need to lean heavily into willpower or don't bother. Theoretically (though not achievable), if you can reach 4750 Willpower, you would reach 287.5% bonus damage on every single source of shadow damage. Compared to 4750 Intelligence (+475% skill damage), this may not seem worth it, but this bonus damage is relative to the final calculated amount of the "original damage", after all modifiers. Dots can't crit, so it's not completely extreme.
