Hi everyone! In this video I've taken a longer clip from the Twitch Stream where I answered a commonly asked question about how to spot and calculate additive and multiplicative damage in Diablo 4. This will have some general info but it was mostly made with the S4 Shadow Minion build in mind when giving examples.

Bro thank you for this! I’ve searched far and wide and make guides myself! Understanding the concept that additive damage is primarily your gear/tempering and your multiplicative damage is glyphs/legendary nodes is massive!! Great video fam!!

Great video, thanks! I was wondering why the Shadow Minion guide had changed. I think the concept of "uptime" is important to consider when comparing alternatives (i.e., one thing is great but up 10% of the time, vs. another is good and up all of the time, etc.)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I am no mathematician, but I love it and love learning more about how this works so I can build-craft myself (RNGesus and the Temper gods willing lol). Pretty sure the Blacksmith is secretly Diablo in Season 4, destroying all of our best gear lol. My question is. What does "Good Damage Numbers" look like? What should we aim to hit to easily do a Pit 100? (I did a Pit 80 relatively easily with Necro in 1 try, but I've failed a few as well along the way).

This was great. I knew most of it just by kind of inferring, but you helped solidify it. The only issue I have is with whether or not skills/glyphs/aspects impact your minions simultaneously. Like, for example the passive skill 'Amplify Damage' for the 12% buff, or the crit damage from the corpse tendril aspect, or the improved shadow damage to cursed aspect. I find different sites/articles with conflicting answers on if they impact minions. How are we supposed to know that? I wish there was a comprehensive list

Its not visible in game. Its all done through testing. The list exists in the content creator's head. Someone should write it down.

All three points into Golem Mastery increases the damage of the Golem [x] 75% and Hulking Monstrosity increases the damage of of the Golem [x] 100%. They are both worded very similarly. Let's say you have both. Are they each their own multiplier or do they add together to become one multiplier. Does your damage multiply by 3.5 or 2.75? Thanks for the helpful video!

Your additive Damage bucket affecting the Golem is Z. Z * 1.75 * 2
i dont understand, what do you mean curse damage batter then summoning damage? the range number is higher for summoning damage. can u pls explane this more? thx
Is there a spreadsheet out there where we can input additive and multiplicative values in to find the breaking points for optimal setup? - sorted by class - itemized by names of affix / aspects / paragon nodes

Damage itself has no breakpoints. Only stuff like Attack Speed has those.
The shadow minion Necro guide on maxroll can go how far in the pit without the holy bolt elixir?

This build sucks in the higher pits. The bolt elixir is nice for getting to the boss but your biggest problem with this build if your not doing the Golem version is that you won't be able to kill the boss quickly and will probably die to the shadow of lilith thing. That's been my experience so far with this build using the "cursed damage" version over Golem. I can crush the small elites but I get hung up on high HP bosses. Super annoying.

I wanted to point out that one of the glyphs was nultiplicative but it doesnt specify.
Any reason why Control glyph isn't used? Doesn't the slow from Decryptify count as CC?

Our only problem in the game are bosses. You cant CC bosses and Control does nothing on them.

For example, mendeln attack damage is additive
Can you do this for Sorcerer please. I think our damage is broken.

Sorc is the same thing. Additive damage is the same for all classes.
Not sure if what you say at the beginning of the video is accurate. Correct me if i'm wrong. From what i understood from other tutorials Crit, vulnerable, overpower, paragon nodes, legendary affixes for skills, and i think all damages Are all multiplicative. All the rest are into the additive bucket. The 350 golem damages And 350 summon damages = 700 golem damage Not x3.5 and another x3.5

It's a multiplier.
Can you please help with explaining the additive part on this example. Let’s say I have base dmg at 1000, I have 125% crit bonus, 75% vulnerable bonus and let’s say 60% cold dmg. I do frozen orb attack on vulnerable enemy which crits, so the formula will be: crit = 1000 x 2,25 vuln = 1000 x 1.75 cold = 1000 x 1.60 total additive = crit + vuln + cold = 2250 + 1750 + 1600 = 5600 dmg or total dmg = 1000 x 2.25 x 1.75 x 1.6 = 6300 dmg or total dmg = 1000 + 1250 + 750 + 600 = 3600 dmg It’s a bit confusing how all those modifiers get added together

Everything is additive: Critical Strike Damage, Vulnerable Damage, Cold Damage.

also, 10+10+10=10x3. So you adding all stats or trying to multiply them using their decimal values, you will get the same result so idk why you tried to calculate it twice

@@markoffden Vulnerable damage increase your damage by 20 % on top and crit by 50% on top of all those stats you gave me. So when you do base damage + (your cold + vuln + crit) then you increase your damage by 20% and then by 50% and you get 80% increase.
They really need to revert the crit damage change it should be how it was in D3

@@danielantl4785 That unfortunately doesnt work on Minions.
dmg to summoning does not effect minions. it only effects the golem skill like the blood burst attack.

Mages to cast twice Tempering will trigger blighted faster. Worth investing in one piece since you can get a new mage attack every other attack 50%+ which 1.5x their damage output and blighted 10 stacks of 10 for those impressive 240%x moments. Mage mastery and Golem mastery are imperative. Skeletal warriors are okay but not required to buff if their damage isn't being converted to shadow. Instead buff your blood mist aspect on your helmet to do corpse explosion and add a layer of miasma to trigger shaddowblight keypassive faster.
Here I'm, smarter than anyone "Hey maxroll takes this which Is only 10% lets change for a 60% vulnerable" #feelsbadman

I meant that I added without knowing 70% vulnerable instead of 10% multiplicative thinking I was smarter than anyone instead I did the wrong thing and realised only thanks to this video

This is incorrect , it fails to show that the multipliers only work conditionally on some of the additive sources and not on all. Golem Damage works this way. I think crit multi's may work conditionally on only crit damage additive sources also. Needs more testing. This game is scuffed.

This was an impromptu explanation on stream. It does not have all info as I havent scripted anything and just tried to explain basic additive vs. multiplicative damage sources.
I have no idea why you're saying the glyph is multiplicative. On that Territorial glyph, I see: 1. +43.6% dmg to close enemies 2. For every 5 dex, you deal +7.5% increase dmg to close targets (which translates to +43.6%) This is additive damage. Not multiplicative. It's +43.6% to the 1900%, so it's 1943.6%. What's the 'additional multiplier on that last glyph' that you're talking about? Min 15:15. What's the difference between the rare node that gives +50% golem dmg and the Territorial glyph that gives +43.6% dmg to close targets? Both are additive, and the rare node gives +6.4% more dmg than the glyph.
