I think If JRM finally moves up to Cup, Dales involvement will be a key catalyst in a new revenue sharing package for the teams. I don’t see him moving up until that changes and I think he has enough leverage within the sport to make it happen. “If you want me to move my team up, we need this type of deal”. Case in point- EVERYONE said we would never go back to N Wilkesboro. We race there in May because of him.

The problem is, the money isn’t there. They say he would barely make profits even with wins. Nascar is in a pit where they need to start paying more or more teams will move on

If it doesn't make dollars then it doesn't make sense! Until that problem is solved you won't see him start a cup team. Plus even now you have to take into consideration how much JRM is actually backed by Mr.Hendrick money. With the way the rules are at the cup level they won't be able to do that quite as easily. Sure there probably are still some satellite teams out there backed by a larger team but nascar has been at least trying to eliminate that some to a certain point. It started with the 4 car max and that created the smaller satellite teams and then the "technical alliance" and now the charter system. Which is just a new way of making money. With only 36 charters and now a 40 car cap there's always going to need a team to sell their charter in order for new teams to exist but with no actual growth in the process. It's going to be interesting to see how this way of doing things ends up working out for everyone involved.

It would be a funny skit to do a video on preparing for the school carpool. Get a couple drivers to fill in as kids, practice at home, timing them on unloading, deck out cars as race cars , get a couple more drivers involved to be the carpool line , a 'pit' crew at the drop off.

To the guy asking how to get into the sport. Jr is right. Back in 08, I had a sponsorship deal fall through, but I ended up moving from WA to NC to work as a mechanic on the team I was looking to drive for. It was a small 25th running team in Xfinity, but it got my foot in the door. At that time I would walk into other bigger teams and hand in my resume and wouldn’t get hired, but as Jr said there used to be a bunch of people turning in resumes every day. So I suggest not only apply at the big teams but hit up the smaller teams. The small teams always need help. Yes, the pay is lower, but once your in door, you can network with people and then get hired at bigger teams.

I have an idea for the 24hour nascar race idea. What if each car had a team of 3 drivers and each driver was from a different nascar series. 1 from trucks, 1 from xfinity and 1 from cup. It would be fun to see different skill levels and give a chance for some of the lower series drivers to get a taste of a cup car.

6:00 So story - I moved from Ohio to Charlotte in 97' to attend UNCC and wanted to get into NASCAR eventually as a crew chief. This was before the NASCAR Technical Institute as well so schooling was indirect. At that time it was about impossible unless you had a dad or an uncle in the industry or knew someone on the inside. Only other way to get in was to work at a race shop for free for a few years cleaning the shop or low level work with no pay but I couldn't do that. I ended up getting a degree in Computer Science instead of Mechanical Engineering and a few years into my career I got a job with NASCAR at their headquarters in Daytona Beach, FL. Worked for about 7 years there and got the good out of the job. Got to experience a lot even at track I wanted (just via technology not the teams and cars directly). So it's so crazy to hear now that they can't find people to work for the teams as I would have been 1st in line back in the day. 🏁

Which hurt me big time. Everywhere I applied I got rejected due to that. I love Jr. I love his opinions and his influence on the sport that I’ve followed since I can remember anything. I love that N. Wilks is coming back with the all star race. He’s done so many things and people listen. With that said, I would not be a fan of a 24 cup race. I think most races are still too long as it is excitement level wise. I think the endurance races are cool but more because of the prestige and tradition. But watching one is a different story. Dear god man. Who would attend a race for the whole 24 hours? What would the ratings be like, I can’t imagine great. I always wonder how the 24 hours of Daytona survives as a single event every year financially. The stands are almost completely empty! I’m really not trying to be negative, but probably wouldn’t be anything that I, a life long, watch every race in every one of the three top series, would have any interest in watching. Lead car 20 laps ahead of 2nd place. I’ll pass on that one. NASCAR is door to door, leaning on each other lap after lap. I just imagine the excitement level single car qualifying at Daytona. As a fan, you just have to get through it. The insiders and drivers my love that opportunity, but watching it on TV is a whole other story.

24 HR race? Daytona, Cup cars, 60 car field, regular drivers for points, co-drivers of their choice. Remaining 17 cars open to professionals from any other series.

A 24 hour NASCAR race would take 35 hours with all the competition stoppages. There would be driver naps as well as counseling for the psychiatric counseling for some of the younger drivers. "No, you can't just push him into the wall even if your Grandpa said it was OK".
