How Counter-Strike Solved FPS Games

Ойындар

Counter-Strike is one of the most loved FPS games of all time. It is also the most influential; its core mechanics can be seen in many forms today, from Call of Duty to Rainbow Six Siege. But this is not what makes counter-strike special. It's only a small piece of a larger puzzle, a puzzle we hope to explore in detail in this video.

Also showing nostalgic footage from the old majors is just hitting the right spot. I have been playing CS 1.6 since 2009 when I was 11, since then I kept playing and stopping till 2014 when I picked up CS:GO and I can confidently say, it has changed my life. CS proves simplicity and thoughtful gameplay loops are what makes a great competitive game. No bells and whistles, just simple guns and util, no crazy killstreaks or weapon attachments, you play with what you are given and make the best out of what you have, you can be a great player on your own and carry a few games maybe but youll never be great unless you know how to be a part of a team that works together, its so much more satisfying that way.

The big difference at a LAN party if you carry on like a muppet, the player you were abusing was right there in the room so you - well, didn’t. I'd say this was accurate before CS2, definitely not anymore. It's been around almost a year now and still pales in comparison to CS:GO. I think eventually it will get back to the old quality, it's the amount of time that it might take that worries me. Kind of depressing that CS2 was rushed out AND replaced a game that realistically didn't need anything other than a fresh coat of paint, I don't think it was a great decision at all in retrospect.

the smoke lineups on mirage is a cool thing to cover, and its even more important in a game like vail VR, a game in which, for a while, I was pro in. My team spent HOURS perfecting lineups on the maps, our favorite being a reproduction of Dust 2, which you had to physically throw, meaning that it was possible to throw a smoke from the top of mid all the way onto B site, same goes for impact grenades, though those had not yet been implemented at the time of my professional play, a common smoke we used on CT was to smoke A long from tunns, or on Ts to smoke goose or CT ramp from bedroom(tho people called it skatepark due to the concrete structures placed there instead)

quake and other arena shooters have way more depth, more to think about and more to mechanically achieve, the real reason that counter strike is so popular is beacuse its really, really easy to get into. even my mom would understand the game after one round

I took a long break from CS and probs gonna get hate for this but Halo also. (Halo 1,2,3). Trying other of the modern shooters and I just can't grasp them. To me Halo and CS seemed to just be my go back games. Comfort. Halo positioning is key. (Granted I play a lot of comp and comp custom game lobbies.) But in CS positioning is insane. It's addictive. Idk what it is. The slower paced fps games where positioning is everything is just so ADDICTIVE. I played a match of Halo 3 BR spawn tourney rules the other day on Xbox a couple weeks ago. And man was it a breath of fresh air. I just got back into CS2 and I'm loving it. I've been playing for 2 weeks straight. Nothing can touch these style of games to me. Especially CS and economy. Pistol rounds are VERY stressful but very fun.

Simplicity design, Never overcomplicate core game mechanics by the time come out, Viewership friendliness which leads to emotional moments for many people and competition throughout many years, Creativity from already existing things in the game and easy to play experience which leads to many people still wanna try that's how CS still the king of FPS to this day despite so many challenges like some similar games. CS just can't be kill and still set standard for every FPS to this day. I'm glad you make this video ❤

TF2 showed a better alternative evolution of FPS though, it realised that fast fire rate weapons aren't satisfactory but big one-two hit kill dmg weapons is where it's at, and unlike CS2 that requires you to have God tier headshot aim to get 1-2, TF2 is a bit more lenient and the way TF2 raises the difficulty is via movement like Scout double jump or rocket jumps or strafing etc and that's just the start. That's why I never got into CS2, it's pure tryhard formula, with it "you die once you wait til entire team dies", or with it's "you have to shoot for the head for 90% of guns to be useful" and it's just boring, most guns are same aah crap, but with swapped stats, while TF2 has so many unlocks that vastly change the gameplay formula like sniper who has a bow unlock, replacing his hitscan with projectile.

The first time playing counter-strike was when cs:go was release on the Xbox 360 at the arcade section. I don’t remember too much about the experience I have, but playing cs2 today remind’s me of this vivid experience I have on this game. My younger self thoughts this game was like a off-brand version of call of duty that was fun, but fairly forgettable experience. Today, it’s probably Valve most popular game of its library and one of the most successful fps shooter of its time.

Competition and eSports being the backbone of the game is so well said. FIFA eSports is the worst example of the opposite. Where the developer themselves has to shoehorn and fund the entire eSports side of the game because the core mechanics are so incompatible with eSport play.

i think you are missing the point. 8:21 before I started playing CS, I had heard about Valorant from my brother. I was surprised when I heard that you couldn’t heal, or revive, I was surprised. At the time I discovered Valorant, I was a huge TF2 player. I didn’t get into Valorant anyways. My friend got me to play CS a long time after I discovered Valorant without knowing I discovered Valorant. Now I play CS more than TF2. I still love TF2, and I do play it once in a while though.

My favorite part of csgo, is i dont like it, i hate it even, but that's what's awesome, a good game isn't a game for everyone, think of every legendary title, there's going to be an audience that dislikes it, not out of unwillingness to learn or just salt from chronic skill issue, but because a good game seeks to give a very particular experience, an experience that wont be for everyone, a game that tries to appeal to everyone will become watered down, and streamlined, which is what we see with alot of modern titles, these people aren't envisioning an experience they're asking "what'll make me the most money", they'd never put in a feature as awkward as csgo recoil, i hate the idea of my barrel facing one way and my third bullet exiting the barrel at a 90 degree angle cuz Ak's have a mind of their own, but certain players will dedicate hours to recoil patterns and getting the perfect rhythm of shots to stay accurate and become so good at this sysyem you'd swear they had an awp when they really just mastered the Ak
