Community follows Jeff, a lawyer, whose law degree has been revoked, is compelled to join the Greendale Community College. Students of diverse temperaments join his study group which leads to quirky and memorable encounters. In S5E1, Repilot, Jeff returns to Greendale to help his former law partner gather evidence for a lawsuit; thinking Jeff is planning to help save the school, Dean Pelton calls the study group back together.

    I have mixed feelings about Repilot. Having all of the characters' lives fuck up again felt a little forced, and I felt bad for them, but for what it's going for it's executed pretty seamlessly. Also, I don't like how it calls out the way Britta has changed and then the show just doubles down on that in later episodes.

    9:43 - I loved this scene. The implication that a monster who cares is still a monster suddenly makes Jeff's character so much more layered. The writers and the actor both did a good job.

    The promising beginning of the season, but with next episodes the whole idea of saving greendale was dumped in the trash. The main issue with the greendale was that they gave a degree to idiots who could then build a bridge that would crush. So saving greendale meant to turn this place into a institution where people could get real education. But the “saving greendale comity’s” actions, especially Jeff’s, with all that drinking at classes, classes like ladders and grifting weren’t actually aimed to that goal.

    I legitimately skipped season 4 on my first watchthrough of community and tbh I think it makes the show just so much better in every way, but especially makes season 5 better, because A. You literally need no context from s4 to watch s5 (except brie larson's character feels a bit out of the blue but its not very important) and B. The shift from s3 to s5 is honestly less jarring than s4 to s5 because s5 is about the same quality of writing and showrunning as s3 but s4 is a gradual enough decline that you don't realize how different it is from real community until you snap back to reality with s5 and it makes you think s5 is bad/not good community content when it was actually season 4 slowly poisoning you

  • @titania396
    @titania3968 ай бұрын

    I don't like it on Retrospect because it breaks the happy ending for most characters and doesnt restore or evolve it for all of them. The Greendale 7: Pierce actually gets a good Iconic send off Abed basically gets his happy ending restored and I would dare say Improved Troy evolves pasts his Original happy ending and I would say Improved Shirley evolves past her Original ending and its not bad or good but different Annie gets her happy ending restored and not really improved Jeff remains stagnant. He Doesnt get to become a lawyer again, he doesnt get to fight for the little guy and is implied to be stuck at greendale forever which is not that bad but I feel it goes against the theme of community that is about looking back at the times in college and realize they were great. Britta by far the one that gets the rawest detailed, She didn't get her happy ending restored and in many aspects regressed, She's dumber than ever and everyone hates her or sees her as a nuisance, she becomes the worst sterereotype of an anarchist. This is not a constant but a slow burn that fluctuates, I get that she becomes a bartender that can use her psychology training to help people and sell them booze. At best she has rich parents so she wont stay homeless, She doesnt get to say goodbye to Annie and Abed. I feel bad for her and the writers dismissing her or hating her for her progressivism perhaps, idk. I will never know. All I know is the screen and what I saw. You can Argue about realism, how its not that bad, how her ideas are proven to be good, how while not being the brightest she is similar to troy in her Wisdom. But to me her Trauma, her ideals, and her Wit became a joke a joke that I never found that funny and has only offended me the longer I thought about. I love Community and I show it to everyone I can but its genuinely painful when I get to the 5th season because despite its heights and Heights that have not been reached or surpassed in any other sitcom I know how my favorite character, a self insert with a personality, someone I admired, a sister from another mister will end up as a joke. I cannot bring myself to like it. I can only try to ignore this part and enjoy the rest of the show with the brilliance I love and have been given to my favorite character from episode 1. I will admit I am biased, that its not as bad as how it makes me feel, that there are ways to see the ending as empowering and comendable, that there are hints that Britta's future is brighter than I am making it out to be, that she has the wit and skills by the end where she will achive all her dreams and more or at least end up happier than when she started. But Nah, I don't think I will accept that. I will only hope that the movie gives her a more servicable ending, that she gets her metaphorical medal like Chewbacca, But I dont think she will, I have almost no hope. Its not Community's fault if anything it's only because its so great that I am so emotional. We live in a society where women so often get the short end of the stick, not only in real life but in our fantasies too. In a way it's my fault I don't like Britta, my expectations were too high, my attachment to strong, My Naivatte too blinding, I mean they literally use her name as a mistake. But in another way its not my fault, I was born in the society I was born, my attachment, rage and expectanions followed by its dissapointment might have been inevitable. Just like the show being what it is, unaprecitated by the mainstream as well as not living up to its full Jeff's dad being Bill Murray potential was inevitable, a show so ahead of its time never being allowed to shine burning brighter than any other. Community made me jealous with its genius and brought me more joy than I can express. In some ways it is only fitting that it inspires me to be greater with the anger I feel at the ending for one of my favorite characters even if at the same time I doubt I would be able to reach the same quality with all the constraints it had. Community is flawed but it will never stop being part of me and I can only thank you for letting me relive one of my favorite tv shows of all time.

    Completely agree. Be it by design, or the likelier, an unfortunate bias from the writer’s perspective, britta is the worst example of flanderization I’ve seen in any show. Still, i do seem to see what they’re original intentions were with the character, and were never able to fully develop. In a similar sense to troy being the heart of the group, i britta as the key that keeps them grounded, and together. There’s no study group without britta. The writers undermined their own points for the sake if jokes, but still managed imo to show glimpses of their true intentions

    I go back and forth on those two a lot. One rewatch they feel top tier, the next like lowlights. I don’t think I’ve got any thoughts on them coherent enough to build a video around, but I will say the telepathy gag is an all-timer for me. That being said, after the Ladders video finishes this premieres series off, I won’t be stopping with the Community content. I’ll be doing an Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas video, and probably then the much-requested ‘how Britta changed’ video, but after that, I’ll probably start looking at episode-based videos again. So maybe one day!

    Yeah…no. Community had been in decline from the moment they gave up their premise in Season 3 when they gave everyone lockers, openly admitting it wasn’t actually a show about college but instead a show about adults pretending to be in high school. It was still really good for the rest of the year, but the decline became very sharp without Dan Harmon in Season 4. The show had a couple of great episodes in Season 5, but the overall quality isn’t much better than Season 4 because the show never recovered from the loss of Donald Glover. Troy was not only the funniest individual character, but also helped provide a large portion of Abed’s humor as a comedy duo. Abed because significantly less funny when he didn’t have someone he could bounce off of and match his weirdness. And Season 6 is as little more than a corpse of a show, the equivalent of watching a former teenage pitching prodigy flame out by age 30 because they no longer had their stuff. It’s only justification was to try and fulfill Abed’s mantra of 6 seasons and a movie.
