This video only shows the biological side of things. While it is surely promising there is also bionics - replacing bodyparts with superior robotic ones like eyes which can see in the dark or lungs which can not only breathe but store oxygen so we could dive for much longer. I'm not sure what will be first but both fields are working towards the same goal rapidly.

CRISPR technology would allow for DNA editing so if we wanted that we would just need to figure out the genes for such abilities maybe find that in animals and see if we can edit that into human genes

replacing my human lungs with a bionic lung would be interesting if it could match the oxygenation rate of a human lung and have the ability to store air for later and have built in C02 scrubbing capacity the scrubbing and air storage would allow you to perform at full power (sprinting, etc) for much longer than normal in addition to giving you upward of 30 min of diving time (assuming the storage system was able to remove the nitrogen and store only the oxygen in an unpressurised system) but there are some organs i would not want to completely replace with robotics one example is the heart (do you really want to be killed by your electric company turning off the power) instead of replacing the heart with a mechanical version why not have both, then you have some redundancy in your circulatory system and you can also have higher athletic performance as well your human heart would work normally as it usually does but there would be a computer monitoring your pulse and blood pressure and if it detects that the human heart is not working properly, a tiny pump could activate which could give you limited blood pressure so you can get to a hospital without dying and it could also be configured to detect adrenaline and activate when your adrenaline spikes, giving you extra blood flow and allowing you to outrun the knife weilding african youth who is hell bent on killing you (yeah im in australia) this technology could make heart attacks and being caught in a sinking car a minor nuisance instead of a major threat to your life

I can almost see fields of organs ripening under a soft sun, leaning in the wind every now and then and two scientists talking to each other: "Those ears look pretty ripe to me, let's harvest them". And after twenty minutes or so they come back with a basket full of ears.

With how fast this technology has come in the past decade, I imagine that not too far from now we will be able to print organs that function better than our natural organs and even be able to integrate and fuse bio enhancements and robotics to body parts. Of course with the repeal of net neutrality, this will stifle research in all areas as our modern world depends on free internet to do open research. I use the internet in my class room to do research for projects every day and for my research to be plentiful I need access to alot of sites. Alot of the time I will need to collect information from 20 or more websites to have a good informed thesis. Now schools will be limited in what sights can be accessed and students will learn less because they can access less. This will slow progression down world wide as information at it's source will be stifled as so will the output of discoveries be stifled. People who want to repeal net neutrality are so consumed with greed they miss the bigger picture and how this will effect everyone. This comment wasn't suppose to be about net neutrality, but in this dark time I couldn't help it.

They are compatible, because it is literally your DNA. It are your cells, technically. For a new organ. Wed have to come up with one. Hook it all up with blood vessels and NERVES. Change the brain for the organ to work and then it wouldn't even be genetic yet so youd have to do it for every new person. Also WHY We can just use technology, bionics. Its easier.

I feel like the best answer that might become available in the not too distant future would be to build them inside a person's body with nanobots. Or to repair the existing organ the same way. The ultimate solution would be to figure out how to program your own cells to create or repair the organ based on existing DNA.

DNA is like a time machine, Stem cells are rewound all the way. Organs are probably kicked off as mini tasks that branch off the main ribbon and then are locked away. Its probable finding the junction of the branches will be mRNA trigger points from the outside the cell environment, which chain reacts like a bud blooming into a flower depending on signals that only occur during initial development. After these branches chain-react they create the organ and then self-destruct or self-limit uncontrolled growth, until prompted by post birth growth factors like hormones or stressors that encourage inflammation and repair that mimics initial development-growth.

If you create a living brain it has to be conscious, but it's like a newborn with 0 information and without sensors like touch, sight smell, kinda weird because it can think but don't know what to think, it will forever be 0.

We have a new tool, and need to always ask the question how we can apply CRISPER to do this. In this case we would have a pig and turn its organ from pig cells to cells of a specific human. As this is done, the pig rather than the human undergoes most of the anti-rejection medication. Advantages would be the structure already exists; the cells are just being transformed. Although this is overly simplified, I need to ask the question, we need to look at CRISPER for organ transplant.

The idea of growing an entire human brain with this creeps me out... I mean, if we work on it long enough we'll eventually figure out how to do it, and I'm sure someone at some point will, but... What would you use it for? You can't really do a brain transplant since you'd basically just be putting a new mind into an old body, which wouldn't even really have much of a point... Maybe you could cut sections off and maybe replace damaged brain tissue with the newly grown tissue? Hmmm...

This would be a game-changer. Next step would be finding a way to slow the aging process too. People re living longer, but that does not mean in a young healthy stage. So, increasing lifespans is not really good if doesn't mean increasing the actual health span. These are quite interesting developments and hopefully not just a rich few will be able to afford it.
