How clear does the sky need to be for my Starlink Dish

Ғылым және технология

One often hear that the sky needs to be clear for the Starlink dish, but how clear does it need to be?
In this video I demonstrate the importance of a clear sky, and also explain why it is different than other systems where a dish can point in one direction in the sky

Thank you for sharing this information, it really helped me to understand how to optimise my Starlink aerial for best results. 👍

Thanks David! Really interested about StarLink for here in AUST! Seems at the moment their bandwidth 'client limits' (as you would expect) are WELL suited to Australia's wide distribution of users! I'm interested in it for data from remote outback areas of Aust! Love to see more info in non urban areas! Keep us posted!

How is the general experience? What do you reckon about using this technology at a camper van (stationary) here in Oz? I’ve heard that the test RV hardware in US.

Hi Alex. I think that Starlink solutions will change the landscape significantly. Performance is typically more than 200Mbps and currently the latency / ping is below 50ms. I don't really have a feel for when true mobility will happen, but if you have a fixed location it's good. I roam between locations but it's within 5km so I know I'm not really moving. Personally, I love this solution

I have a South facing top story balcony. Will it work for me? My condo will not allow me to put anything on the roof unfortunately.

The direction the unit moves depends on where in the world you are located (i.e. Northern or Southern Hemisphere). However, it actually needs a reasonably clear view of the sky, so a view from a balcony may suffer quite significantly from the wall.

What tripod mount is that, and has it been working well/sturdy in wind?

I use a speaker tripod. Works quite well for temporary solutions, but I had to strap it down overnight to make sure it worked well and kept steady...so probably not ideal for permanent use.

Hi Jason! I think that depends on how you want to use the internet. Heavy gamers may want 100% reliability but casual users and streaming TV should be perfectly fine

@@Hiltsuk1 we use this system for our office. I purposely tried to break the system, and when it reports an outage once every 1 or 2minutes it causes some trouble on Teams meetings but for website and email ise it’s fine. If we ran oir VoIP phones through it I think we would have had difficulties on the phone with that reliability. However, I don’t know what the percentage is it reports so will have a look later today…
