"You have to be completely honest with these people and include them in your creative process" is a HUGE lesson for directing actors, if you want to do it well. The thing with "actors' directors" is that they know how vulnerable and frighteningly uncertain it can be as an actor and how much actors need to be able to trust the director. You don't need to baby them (Nolan is very minimal with his praises on set), you just need to be their rock, be tuned in to them while letting them be tuned in to you.

"They are students of human behaviour" - that's the reason right there why every actor wants to work with him! An absolute GOAT certified.

I like how he gives such clear short direction to his actors with a polite gentleness but his eyes say "If you f$@& this up, there will be consequences!"

To be fair, Hitchcock never said actors are meat or that they were cattle. He simply said they should be treated like cattle. 😂

Oppenheimer was really to me the best Nolan film hands down

My personal thought of his best film is Tenet, but that's not to say Oppenheimer wasn't amazingly great. I'm a very big Nolan fan and I believe very strongly that we are in a "maximum Nolan" era, watching him do some of the greatest movies of all time right now and we don't know it yet. That's between Tenet and Oppenheimer, for now.

@@foolfether Simply put, it's a spy, espionage movie but with the twist of watching a complex idea play out. I think the characters have a lot of humanity within them against a very evil villain with a great sub plot of hope and optimism. The soundtrack is out of this world amazing and I think it plays into how the movie can be best described as a modern day opera. It's all subjective, but I never blame people for how they perceive art or their opinions about it. Same question to you.

@@jherd7909 thanks for sharing, man. now, although i consider it nolan's worst, still it's watchable. but everytime i watch it, i end it both in anger and emptiness. anger because the mcguffin doesn't make sense, so i feel insulted by the 'dont try to understand, just feel', which is ironic, because i barely feel any emotional connection to anyone or anything in the movie, hence the emptiness.

It's not Hitchcock's fault that "Sir" Nolan doesn't have the skill to lie to someone who's only talent is pretend to be someone else. Actors are drama queens, they all have huge diva complexes and to that sort of people, is really easy to deceive. There is not one single Nolan film that has a single frame that you can compare to Hitchcock's films. Nolan is too lazy and agreeable directing. If you are certain with your directing skills, you woulndt need to have Big names as the main characteristic of your films.
