How capturing a neck can be as simple as opening a window

Check out Rickson Gracie’s basic lesson on the principle of the guillotine, and open a window into the simplicity and effectiveness of good jiu-jitsu.

    Lift like a window. With 4 words Rickson teaches tens of thousands of players proper technique. I was taught the other way (the wrong way). And while it will occasionally work on beginners, it is not as effective as just doing it right.

    @The Tide Rises As I said, "it is just not as effective as just doing it right". Yes, there are many ways you can finish it depending on your position and your muscular size. I have seen bodybuilders snap a total shit guillotine on someone and have people tap time and time again. Not because it was done right, but because their squeeze pressure was too intense. Does that make it right? I would argue there is technique as taught, and there is practice that sometimes does not align. I guess you have to look at it in what method you want to be taught.

    Nope,he should wait the required time like everyone else,all his earler grades were given by helio without any respect to time in grade,he was a 7th degree in his 20s.I was also very dissappointed he allowed the 450 fight nonsense on his website,everyone knows he had just 11 fights,the rest were just grappling matches and many were even just sparring which no competitor counts.Ricksons fight record is actually distinctly unimpressive,he fought a bunch of useless non nhb guys most of whom with no grappling ability.His self defense material is very good however and he teaches well but not excellently.

    This is why you can't learn martial arts by watching martial artists. The subtle things they are doing "behind the scenes" which make the technique effective are too hard to spot, they must be taught. It's a bit like the rear naked choke. You don't perform the choke by squeezing your arm together like a claw. Once the arm is in place, you use the big muscles in your back to pull your shoulders back, and that forces Uke's neck further into the V of your elbow, which causes the choke.

  • @niscent_

    @niscent_

    2 жыл бұрын

    don't forget to breath in and inflate your chest for the rear naked choke, it works even better. it's what i love with submissions, step one you lock the position, step two you apply the pressure right.
