How Canada's Immigration Policies are Failing Canadians

Justin Trudeau has made it clear that Canada intends to welcome historic numbers of immigrants in the coming years to help grow the country and address labor shortages.
But the way that many immigrants are coming to, and staying in Canada is part of an exploitative system that creates low quality, low paying jobs, traps foreign workers in a form of modern slavery, and passes over unemployed Canadians.
This episode is about the LMIA and Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) systems, and how they are failing Canadians and immigrants.

No one wanted those jobs because they didn't pay enough to live off of, had no benefits or the employers were bad. Immigrants came to fill the jobs, work cheap and get PR. With this happening it's causing stagnant wages, these companies will never change. I have seen it happen in 2 fields , security and trucking so they can try to deny it but we're all seeing it happen. With trucking right now I'm seeing some of these new immigrant run trucking companies, and not even pay their employees. The other issues is these companies will only hire their own, and they get rebates for hiring new immigrants and minorities. You made most of these points, thanks for bringing attention to this.

I've seen people laid off from jobs only for the company to then hire someone at lower wages since the labor market is flooded. This is across the high and low spectrum of white and blue collar jobs. Reducing the working class to the working poor seems to be the plan .

As a second generation immigrant, I can attest to this. My father was sleeping in park benches before finding a place to live in. When my mother and I came, we walked long hours in the freezing cold, to find some resources. The first 2 years after the pandemic it was quite easy to apply and get interviews for jobs because everything was rebounding from the shutdowns. The following 2 years I could barely secure an interview let alone get a job. What he's saying is absolutely true and I've seen it with my own eyes. Such a shame a land of opportunities is going down the drain this way.

Unfortunately this issue is beyond which politician occupies the chair. I wish it was friend. One can hope, but I am sure not much will change once the liberals lose. No politician will do what it takes. Most citizens own homes and quietly love the high property prices which is driven by immigration. Within another 2 decades, Canada will be full of multimillionaire citizens with inherited property wealth. Any politician who touches that will get skewered. Right now, the % of Canadians struggling is not high enough. The property wealth cascade will ensure it won’t be and the property prices not will change and neither will immigration and foreign investment plus supply issues that drive it.

My two cents. The next politician, whatever party, will do the same. we do not have 1 person/1 vote in North America, the capitalists will control whoever is in power. That mindset is dangerous. At Boeing, the executives can not change a flat tire or have not taken AP sciences in high school yet, the executives think they can comprehend and evaluate complex airplane engineering. All the politicians are there to facilitate executives taking all the value of what society has built, leaving workers without jobs and the community without the products and services. For what? So the top .1% can have all the money. and there is nothing left for the people who are doing the work. We need 1 person/1 vote. If you are a farmer in rural, you tell people "Hey you want to eat what I grow? Well I need this." people will vote for the farmer.

Simple! remove the temporary worker program, move lower level jobs to automation. Focus on innovation and technology. The system is faudlent, get rid of it. Canadians at home can't find jobs and housing. This temporary worker program isn't working for Canadians. It is working for large cooperations, governments, and business not us. The health care system: those who get trained here move to the U.S because the system is designed to exploit young health care professionals; they don't want to pay health care workers. Health care professionals go thought the socal schooling system here, rack up massive amounts of student debt and is expected after graduation to work for very little. That is why they go to the Phillipines and other counties to take their workers because they will agree to cheap labour.

That's exactly the problem! We have a federal government mandated low-wage economy! It's no wonder our productivity is sub-par, if there's no real incentive for business to invest in automation when they have an ever-growing labour pool that will work for a non-living wage. Instead, the capital that could have been invested to improve productivity and thereby increase wages is either held as cash, used to buy-out competitors and kill competition, or poured into stock buy-backs to boost shareholder dividends and "executive compensation". Poor them. Poorer us.

There no such thing as a labor shortage in a Capitalist system. Price balances supply and demand. In other words bring in immigrations nearly always means bidding down wages and causing unemployment. High immigration decreases the availability of doctors, nurses, trades and elite workers per capita because Canada is in competition with all developed countries for these workers and these higher paid workers usually have barriers to entry to protect them against immigrants.

I always argued we needed massive more immigrattion and in fact argued the temporary foreign workers program should be gutted, those people should be canadians with all the rights. There have been more TFW for many months than new workers. I work with immigrants and new immigrant stores have been a blessing, its literally saveed the maritimes. But even I think this continuing immigration is nuts to butts. Whats the goddam hurry? Its not like Canada will be missing in three years. We had almost NO immigration during covid. This tells me that its NOT the liberal party, because NO other party has been presenting motions to the legislature to stop or slow immigration. Its a minority, conservaties want to stop it, present a motion, get ONE other party to agree. They havent and compared to the carbon tax its practically never even talked about by other parties, which tells me this is not a 'liberal' policy, this is 'government' policy.

It should be pointed out that today's corporations make big profit with a small number of elite workers. They don't need mass migration but when mass immigration lowers wages and raises rents they are able to sell fewer i-phones and other high margin products. Thus economic growth can not keep up with population growth and productivity goes down.

LMIA for salary below 100k should be banned. Also if you flood the immigration system with cheap labour, true tax paying talents will have harder time staying. As the score points does not calculate salary (on purpose).

Canada was multicultural before Mr. Trudeau's arrival, but Trudeau turned Canada into a state subordinate to India. This has resulted in the transfer of another country's culture, making Canada culturally dependent on India. This will lead to the transfer of that society's problems, such as racism, ethnic and religious discrimination, and sectarianism, creating hostile ethnic groups. It will also burden the state further, as Canada's economic growth is not independent of the United States, and Canada follows its neighboring state, making it impossible to surpass the American economy. Additionally, Canadian politicians are busy undermining each other and have forgotten the innovative solutions that could improve the economy. The worst of all is the NDP party, where the party leader proposes strange and unjust solutions, such as tolerating those who steal from the country, like the financial aid provided by the Canadian government during the COVID pandemic. This party decided to support the idea of tolerating those who took money without right and also decided to solve the country's problems by giving more money. The Canadian politicians are suspicious in their solutions, as increasing the minimum wage will increase inflation and raise the prices of goods, which is not the correct solution either. Meanwhile, the conservatives are busy increasing hostility against Muslims to support those who fund their election campaigns... All of this will cause greater problems for Canada's future.

There is some truth to this video but in general this has only served to misinform the general public. For starters in order to get LMIA approved employer must advertise the job with wage rate normally at least equal to regional median wage which is much higher than what a normal canadian is getting paid while there are some loopholes. Normally immigrants are working at jobs where Canadians do not wish to work at. Problem is not immigrants or the program. Now Canadians hav to eto compete with people who are more skilled because these workers have to meet certain criteria. Any employer would hire a more skilled workers

Since the age of 14, I've worked as a busboy/dishwasher. At 16 I was a short order cook. By the time I was 19, I worked the grill in one of the largest steakhouses in the city. Guess what? I was underpaid then too, in 1978. You make it sound like; worker exploitation is something new. It's NOT.

This report is very non-specialized and very superficial. Only the employer can determine whether there is sufficient labor. It is the business owners who say whether they have the necessary labor or not. The business owners can and should say who has the necessary conditions to work in They have their own workshop. You are harming Canada by relying on abstract and unrealistic statistics. The foreign expert workforce cannot compete with the citizen expert workforce, because the employer has to pay the fee for obtaining the permit, even with the superiority of the foreign worker. It is from the domestic centers of Canada. This extra cost for obtaining the legal documents that Fanon Taser has predicted is such that the foreign worker is usually not able to pay the fee, and in the end, the foreign worker, despite his ability, is employed in a lower job. It is busy and this issue is very useful for the economy of the country because of the economic expansion, this means a significant growth in the standards of the workers in the country.

And for H1B visa(temporary work visa) it's capped at $85,000 every year unlike Canada. It's selected through lottery system as you mentioned but they save some spots for citizens from Singapore and Chile. That means citizens from those countries have better chance to win the H1b visa lottery. Also Applicants from non profit or government research organizations can exempt from the cap.
