I’ve had a Zoom L12 for about a year for many of the reasons you mentioned but at the time having 5 pin midi wasn’t even on my mind but now I’d love to have that option! I’m guessing I might still be able to connect using a usb to 5 pin midi adapter, but my next interface will definitely have the 5 pin midi in/out👍🏼

If so, does this limits its capabilities as an audio mixer while in MIDI controller mode? Could you for example use half channels as midi and half as audio? Hope it makes sense, Im trying to figure out if it could work for my live setup...

Thanks for sharing, very informative. Can you confirm if the Model 12 is capable of further midi synced recordings when recording to the SD card? Say you record a bunch of hardware synths with the Model 12 as the master clock driving them. Then you go back and record another ‘layer’ on top of that initial recording. Do they all ‘line up’ and remain in sync?

Hi. Thanks for the video. One question- Is there a possibility to record internal FXs within the DAW as an individual track? I struggled with the fact that with Soundcraft MTK it wasnt the case, which is downer. But I will probably buy the Tascam nevertheless. Hardware mixer in one with real midi control is crazy good.

I was planning on getting the Studio Live 32Sx by Presonus, but seeing this is 1/5 cheaper route. I will get this and try it with studio One 4. If it does I will not need 32SC until when I am ready for such huge expenses. Thanks for this video

Brilliant, thanks for the info @taetro. Been on the lookout to get a mixer that can do this without the annoying hissing etc. Ordered one yesterday and got it today, took a bit of head-scratching to figure out the audio level, scared myself a bit when I forgot it wasn't in DAW mode and played your video for reference (it's very loud lol). Sound quality is very nice, a little confusing to use it as your audio interface, then turned all the "MAIN" buttons on. Not sure how the sends work when in DAW mode, but I'm sure the big manual will help. Thanks again

Annoying that it doesn't come with a bloody USB lead though.....

Can you assign the top knobs (blue,orange, green) to control certain functions in your DAW or are the white ones at the bottom the only knobs that will work in a DAW?

Hi, have you use the model 12 midi time clock as a master midi out to midi in of a drum machine as slave for syncing? If yes does the drum machine drift during model 12's stops and plays?

I just won the model 12 from Tascam on instagram yesterday. I'm really excited to get this and see how I can integrate it into my studio. I'm sure I'll get lots of use from it. I do wish it had motorized faders, but hey I got it for free, so I can't complain.

Great video! Is it also possible to set my own midi midi mapping via ableton? So for example to set the 4 eq buttons of a track to 4 sends? So can you easy midi learn? Thx a lot!

Nice video. You said the Tascam helped to record loops on the fly. Can you elaborate please? I can see that you can arm the channel using the tascam but you can also do that with your launchkey. And i dont understand how you can actually start recording the loop from the Tascam.

Cool video, thanks. Tascam Model 12 looks ideal. You should get in the habit of naming your Ableton channel or clip with the preset you're using on the synth 🙂

Great vid as usual. Very cool mixer. I finally bought an analog mixer to add to my setup with my APC 40 as my Ableton mixer and clip launcher. If there was an easy way to launch clips from the Tascam, I'd buy it today. Do you know of anything that could replace both?

Great walkthru of session, but i suggest you to go bit deeper with the mixer. Could you do tutorial about it? Btw can you record thru it ableton and sametime simultanously use it as control interface in ableton. Forexample strean and record audio from synth to track 1 and make fades to prerecorded track 2 in ableton. And can you eq the incoming audio so that it is also recorded eq:ed to ableton? Do you understand what i’m trying to say with my bad english? 😀

i was interested in the model 24. Sad it has no midi-i/o like the 12. Anyone got tips on how to route midi while using the model 24? I was planning on using 6mixer channels for the tr626 and use the stereo tracks for my octatrack, qy700 and rev-2. and maby plug in my turntable for vinyl sampling aswell.

Hey Taetro! I set up the mixer as daw controller and can hear and control 8 channels on ableton, but I can’t get any inputs to work. I connected a dynamic mic and pressed the phantom option, went into the preferences and selected all the inputs, put mic in channel 5 and on ableton set up the input. After all connected the signal from mic blinks on channel but doesn’t show anything on Ableton. Is there a button or step I’m missing !? Could it be my computer OS too old? Any help would be appreciated 🤙🏻

This TASCAM 12 looks just like a Mackie Board. Just a quick question...can mixers be used with Garage Band or do mixers only work with more high-end DAWs like Ableton, Cubase, etc.? Perhaps the reason this is the case is how Apple designed GB, the fact that you can only have focus control of a single track at a time or am I missing something? I'm trying to get my KNTRL9 to work with GB but only able to control a single track at a time for volume and L/R pan knob. Maybe GB needs a bolt-on written for it to support mixers? I'm certain I can't be the first person wanting such an integration...maybe I'm missing something? Thank you Taetro for your insights!!

What about the usb c connection, I dont think they're very secure and in my experience usb c breaks on devices with it over time. Also the power supply connection looks weak

Hello Taetro. This is Raymond. I have the Tascam model 24 channel mixer and the FL STUDIO SIGNATURE DAW. I really need help. I have my cable connected from the PC to the back of my mixer. My question is HOW do I link the two. I play my guitar and sing live into my mixer. the song is recorded into the mixer and micro sd card. Now I wish to transfer that song into my DAW for play back. How do I do this? Goal: To make songs ready for DISC MAKERS to make my vinyl records.

The Model 12 is definitely a Swiss army knife for a hybrid setup. I am definitely interested, but don't have the space for it. It's a solid piece of gear.

I just bought it, sounds very good, my cubase is reading it but two annoying things: 1) I can’t connect my pedal on the aux, it has only aux out, no returns? 2) the return of my laptop is going only on channels 1 and 2 which is a waste, I can’t use those two channels for my other instruments when im producing If anyone has any tricks and tips for those two issues will be very much appreciated 🙏🏻
