I'm 43, layed brick for 30yrs. I'm trying to take my 18yr old son with me and navigate the Great Loop. Trying to plan and leave within 2yrs. I'm so glad I came across this channel. I have a 23ft cuddy cabin but its NOT what I will use, it would be a bit crowded for an adult and a teenager. I'm think $50,000'ish will get me a vessel i can work with. Ya'll look so happy.

I have a 30' 63 island seas steel craft the boat is 59 years old and it has 2 fresh inboard gas motors on it. I have plans of starting the loop in Sept from Cleveland area. This desire to do the loop is a daily thought. I appreciate how you say just go for it and I can tell this is going to be a adventure of a lifetime. Plus this time will give me a chance to intercede for or great nation from different parts of the country. Thank you again for this video you are a inspiration to me

Everytime I get down and think I'm getting too old (I'm probably 15-20 years older than you) or I'll never be able to afford it, I watch and listen to the message ... Pick your moment and just go for it. Thank you, and I hope you're doing well ‼️⚓⚓⚓

Many people do the loop with boats costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Looking “up” at their yachts would make an average middle-class worker feel “poor” in comparison. Perhaps a better title might have been “Doing the Great Loop on a middle-class budget” or something like that. One caveat in buying a boat for the loop, with the intention of selling it afterword, is the depreciation hit you’re bound to suffer, especially if you’ve put any money into the boat. I do like your idea of renting out your house for a year.

Fair enough. Though the boat has a mortgage-like loan on it, so the bank owns it. The payment is less than a couple of hundred bucks a month. In our experience, with fuel and food, and maintenance, the $2300 a month we spent is about the least amount one could hope to complete this trip with.

@@staceyguth6830 pixbyeli is right. I questioned the title of you video right off. The good news for you is that "poor people" are not looking at boat videos. They are too worried about a roof over their heads and where their next meal is coming from. You might want to consider a title like "boating the Great Loop on a budget". Only someone who has never been poor would put up a video with the title you picked.

@@nelskrogh3238 sort of a strange analogy but if it helps you justify being poor then I guess everyone is an insect based on your statement. To help you understand where the other side of the tracks see it, if you live below the poverty level, you are poor. Don't confuse frugal with poor. In a pinch, the poor have no reserves to save them, the frugal do.

@@donaldgrant9729 I'm both. Poor people would consider me to be rich. Rich people would consider me to be poor. My only income these days is my monthly Social Security check. I do OK because every thing I own is paid for. I made sure of that before I retired. To me it matters more how much you owe rather than how much you make. I'm happy and I'm healthy and living in that sweet spot in the middle.

Perhaps a differentiation between broke and poor is necessary? "Broke" is usually not having much (or any) readily-available cash flow, while "poor" is having very few (if any) possessions; can also be a "whoa is me" state of mind. To me, it sounds like they are, indeed, "broke", but definitely not "poor" (neither materially nor mentally). Either way, sounds like they're having fun!
