How BLUE LOCK Turns Isagi into the Protagonist | MrGoodSir

Hey there! Thank you all so much for watching! I was incredibly happy my first video got above 100 views! I was already gonna be happy if this one had gotten 150, maybe 200 if lucky, but you guys completely surpassed my expectations! 1200 views and counting! That's insane! You've made my weekend, and now I'm pumped to start writing the script for the next one! I hope you'll enjoy it when it comes out! Thank you again and take good care of yourselves :D

My favorite part about blue lock is that at first glance it looks like ball hog academy with everyone wanting the ball all the time trying to score, but in reality is a series about self-discovery and understanding how your and your teammates skills fit together to create chances. They want everyone to be absolutely certain in themselves and those around you, its not power of friendship but power of trust.

the character designs are one of blue lock’s greatest strengths imo. there are so many unique characters with backstories that would fit PERFECTLY into the role of protagonist (rin, chigiri, barou, etc) that isagi being the protagonist is initially puzzling. it’s why his development is so interesting because, unlike the other characters, he has to go leaps and bounds to solidify himself as the protagonist- not just in-verse, but to us, the readers, as well. it’s actually why he fits the role of protagonist better than the other characters listed above would. in other words: isagi is a certified hustler

The duality of Isagi is so compelling and also disqualifies him as “self-insert-y”. The dissonance in his character is very fantastical and jarring. His ego and ambition is made increasingly abnormal by the juxtaposition between his character at first glance and his actual character. He becomes an aspirational character that the story uses to challenge us readers to unearth our own personal “why”s and make them a reality. Thanks for this! 👍🏾

But well, I'm a tiny channel with only two videos, doing as a hobby, cuz I have a physically demanding full-time job that takes away 40 hours of my week and leaves me destroyed ahah, I won't be growing anytime soon, but hopefully, slow and steady wins the race! All the video is awesomelly explained, at that not even counting the hypocresy and Evolution of that last goal in a deeper way. The fact that the guy that made him evolve the most, Rin, got his fame taken away by the exact same type of goal that he scored to win Isagi previusly, It shows a lot about the Evolution and the writing in the series, complete banger of a video

Hey, nice video essay! The editing quality is honestly quite insane considering the size of your channel. Since this is your second video, I assume that you'd welcome some constructive criticism, so here's my two bits: 1. I'm not usually someone who speeds up or skips through videos, but I only could sit through this at x1.25 speed. You articulate your points well enough, so I think that putting in a bit more tempo would do you good, maybe about 110-115% speed instead of 125% would be the sweetspot. 2. About Isagi's goal in the U20, although I get why you explicitly mentioned it, I think it might be a bit too spoilery to the anime onlies. Even though this outcome is indeed predictable if you read carefully enough, it's still one of the best pure hype moments of the series imo and taking the tension away from it might diminish the impact for any anime only when the arc finally gets animated. I think simply mentioning the circumstances of the game and saying that Isagi had a huge impact on the game and could successfully establish himself as "the heart of blue lock" is vague enough while simultaneously giving enough context for the interview. That being said, I might be nitpicking here because it's my favourite scene in the series and I'm just really allergic to spoilers. All in all, stand proud, you cooked.

Thank you so much for the constructive criticism! 1. Yeah, I hope I'll get better about that with time, I have a bit of a "supereyepatchwolf syndrome" XD 2. You're not nitpicking! I fully understand and I'll consider it depending on the case, but I personally am not easily affected by spoilers, so I'm a bit selfish on that regard, and I really wanted for the scene to be more impactful, since it's been months since the chapter came out, I thought it'd be fine, but in retrospective, I should've implemented a SPOILER WARNING, doing that for the next one at the moment xd Thank you once again! I'll keep trying my best! :D

Basically, every character acts, looks and works like a protagonist, their appearence and even their participation in games is as important as the actual MC, they even experience protagonism at times with power ups even if they are against the actual MC, yet the actual MC looks like an average japanese guy with average height and normal haircut. The Nagi Spinoff is proof that all the characters need is their own pov throughout the story for them to be the protagonist.

I would like to mention that Barou's 'new form of dribbling' was less important than the change in mindset it represented. If I'm not mistaken, Barou used chop feints to bluff that he would pass the ball. He admits he can't outperform a team solo by saying he will pass if they leave him no choice, which is a huge leap from the King who refused to even think about passing, but then uses the hesitation that causes to push through himself. Isagi pulled that out of him: molded Barou into the sort of person who will do anything to score his own goals, even letting other people score for him. And it's that unique, almost contradictory perspective on soccer that's made him a nightmare for everyone to deal with, since someone using prior knowledge of football to predict the outcome of a match cannot account for Barou's truly original style. For those who are caught up with the Manga, yes, that 'originality' is what Ego talked about before the most recent Isagi v. Rin match. Barou has been doing it since the second selection, we just didn't have terms for it. And that, to me, is something that makes Blue Lock truly special: the puzzle pieces for success are often foreshadowed dozens of chapters in advance by players using them without knowing what they are.

In my opinion bluelock and Isagi is so popular because most of the people watching do not have a firm grasp on real football tactics and are in it for the hype of a sports anime, and well, it's understandable since that's what bluelock is targeted towards while people who actually play football at a semi-decent level can't help but subconsciously notice all the, well, stupid things that the characters do that would never work in real life (Barou made me pissed off at first since he would be absolutely humbled the moment he joins a football club for the first time and decides to ball hog all the time) that just feel lame when you realise it's not realistic one bit. For example, Isagi's direct backheel feels super hype in the moment, but really, really stupid when you think about it for a sec and realise how unrealistic it feels. And when that feeling clicks, the hype goals don't feel the same. People who truly love and play football constantly can't help but notice because, well, in order to play football at that level you basically *have* to notice it or it shows that you don't have a good of a grasp of understanding to football as you thought. In my opinion, Bluelock gets a lot more enjoyable when you realise that it's not supposed to be real football, but just a superpower based battle anime under the guise of "football".

Why is Kirito always used as the example of a boring character? He ain't - as it was stated here - otherwordly powerful. The anime (S1) takes place good 2 years into the game, that guy was through shit loads of fights already so it's not weird he's capable with a sword and skilled enough to even change the course of a battle once in a while. Still not capable with girls but well, 15yo lol I was reading Unital Ring (N-th, newest, part of SAO) some time ago and what struck me is that - even though it's damn 27th Volume of the novel (+ there're 8 volumes of Progressive so technically, we're THIRTY FIVE (35) FUCKING CHAPTERS INTO THE STORY) there's no almightiness, no too-powerful "obvious" moves because yeah the MC can just blast through people at that point The fights are a damn close call - they were surprise attacked, underequipped and in an enviroment with too-many new mechanics. And I literally thought "Well, Kirito has a sword so he'll just go The Black Swordsman with these mid level guys and kill em all" and that's not what happened at all. He was cautious, quick-thinking and properly using already learnt skills And IIRC, it was like that in the anime and in most of the story overall (not talking about the end of Alicization lol, it was meant to be too OP) So while I do agree Kirito didn't have much of a TYPICAL character development, I saw a lot of development. Though I lack words to describe it

Looks like someone here likes SAO a lot ahah, not making fun btw, full credit to you for sticking with the series and very glad you enjoy it, though I assume like myself, most people dropped SAO after the "Phantom Bullet" Arc, so personally, I can't speak much to Kirito's development as a character after season 2. Though my point was more about the character design than the character itself, and what that design represents nowadays for the broader anime fanbase, the whole "self-insert" protagonist aspect of the design ahah :D (but yeah, no actual hate for SAO, still enjoyed season 1, and the "Mother's Rosario" Arc too personally :3)
